Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Within an instant, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you knew it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, your world vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see. Even you feel different: all the powers you might once have had, are now gone. It is silent, cold and it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you.
At this moment, when it looks as though nothing but a never-ending void awaits you, a red Crystal forms before you. In this void, its warmth compels you to grab it. Upon doing so, you can hear a soft, soothing voice speaking:
"Wake up."
Soon, the void itself vanishes and is replaced by distant noises of engines. Had it all been nothing more than a dream? The soothing voice repeats its call one more time, but is soon replaced with a much less graceful "Wake up, Kupo!" Hand clutched on your Crystal, the call of the Moogle may finally wake you up. But you are no longer in your world, nor in the void. You are before the Crystal of Fire, in the third district of a city called Aqures Ixen. At this point, you may realize the engine noise actually originates from an Airship flying low over the city and headed to dock beneath the castle. As if it wasn't strange enough, your clothes have changed as well. They are now a reflection of the Jobs you are wielding. Last but not least, you are surrounded by Moogles, small and fluffy creatures who are more than happy to tell you about everything you want to know, about your 'destiny' as a Hero of Light, about what awaits you.
Or at least, they will tell you everything they do know, which isn't much in the end.
Thankfully, there doesn't seem to be any citizens aside from Moogles in the vicinity. Indeed, the population of Aqures Ixen seems to be busy elsewhere in the city-- The Moogle will tell you there currently an event named the Festival of Light, which most people are attending. But you are not alone! It probably will not be long before you realize there are plenty of people like you all around, and if somehow you do not realize it, the Moogle who woke you up will be more than happy to inform you there are others like you around. Maybe with their help, you will be able to find out what is happening to you.

— Final Day —
The Festival of Light is a yearly event held at Aqures Ixen to celebrate the victory of the "Heroes of Light" over the "Calamity from the Skies" two thousands years ago, or so do the legends say. Whether people believe in the legends or not, this is an occasion for them to have fun and spend time with family and friends. The Festival is held from the 28th of July to the 3rd of August.
Unfortunately, most attractions and events are over by the third of August. Yet, there is enough to do, should the newly arrived Heroes of Light favor spending time looking at the attractions rather than panicking about their situation. The festival ends at midnight.
Theater Play
— Ninth District || 14:00 —

There is a large theater stage installed in the 9th district-- It is probably only temporary by the look of it. There is quite a crowd seated to watch the play about to unfold, as well as numerous people standing beneath the seats or sitting on the ceilings because they couldn't get a seat. After the audience grows quiet, a woman with long silver hair and green-ish skin steps onto the stage to address the audience.
"Ladies and Gentlemen! Tonight's performance is a story that takes place long, long ago! At the time when the Ancients reigned over the planet, when the Calamities from the Skies landed on this world and waged war against all forms of life. When our story begins, the Ancients are on the brink of extinction and gathering the last of their forces to fight. And now people of Aqures Ixen and visitors from distant lands, we proudly present 'The 4 Heroes of Light'!"
After this, the play starts and will last for roughly one hour and a half. The main characters appear to be four Heroes of Light, respectively dressed as a Warrior, Monk, Black Mage and White Mage. Other characters include the Calamity from the Skies played by the silver-haired woman, an Ancient scientist and the Princess of Crystallis. The story appears to be a highly romanticized version of the tale the Moogles told the characters earlier. As the play unfolds, there is a love story between one of the Heroes of Light, the Warrior, and the Princess of Crystallis. At the end of the play, the Heroes of Light successfully defeat the Calamity from the Skies, but the Warrior has to sacrifice himself and die in order to protect the Princess of Crystallis.
Culinary Attractions
— Fourteenth District || Anytime —
What would a festival be without free food and banquets? Not really a festival. In the fourteenth district, there is a banquet and many stands held by people from all over the world-- People from Balicea, Aerilon, Esdham, Flence, etc. There is even a stand held by former inhabitants of the Empire. All kind of food from all over the world can be found here-- Refined food, pastries, cakes, cooked meals, etc. It's virtually impossible not to find something to like in all of this, and it's all free until midnight!
Competitions
— Tenth & Eight District || 18:00 —

At 18:00, there will be a Blitzball match opposing the teams of Aqures Ixen and Balicea in the Blitzball Stadium. It is more of an exposition match, with nothing to be won aside from glory. Anyone is free to enter the stadium to watch the match. Following this, people - playable characters included - will be allowed to play some Blitzball Match on their own, if they want to try.
At the same time, a Triple Triad competition will be taking place in the eight district, in the campus of the university. Characters are free to enter the Triple Triad tournament, and if they do so they will be given very basic cards and explained the rules. With low level cards and whatsoever no experience, odds are that they may lose to much more experienced and competitive players, but what matters is trying, right? Whilst no characters may recognize him yet, it is notable that one of the NPCs, Wedge, is taking part in the competition. It's just a shame knowing he will lose in the semi-finals.
Trano Golsaucia's Stands
— Eleventh District || Anytime —
Specially for the occasions, stallholders from Trano Golsaucia traveled to Aqures Ixen and brought a few attractions to display what they can do. Noticeably, they brought Chocobos and will organize numerous races throughout the day, on an improvised tracks running around the houses. The Heroes of Light are more than welcome to try and bet, should they want to lose (or multiply) what few Gils they have. If they feel adventurous, they may even try to enter one of the races and ride a Chocobo-- At their own risks.
Aside from this, there are some more attractions worthy of attention. There is a shooting stand-- Coincidentally, all the targets are vaguely similar to the main antagonists of numbered Final Fantasy games. There is a treasure chest game, where characters are presented with ten chests and can open only one-- Prizes range from one Gils to gigantic plushie. There is also a fortune teller Moogle, it is notable that his predictions will always include either the character suffering hell or dying soon, in one form or another. Hopefully this moogle is just a scam.
Fireworks
— First District || 23:00 —

What better way to conclude a festival than fireworks? Fireworks will be launched from the Castle of Aqures Ixen starting 23:00, and will end at midnight, at the same time than the festival. No matter where you are in the city, anyone should be able to watch them easilly if they so wish. Unfortunately, it means falling asleep before midnight may be a bit hard with all the noise.
At this moment, when it looks as though nothing but a never-ending void awaits you, a red Crystal forms before you. In this void, its warmth compels you to grab it. Upon doing so, you can hear a soft, soothing voice speaking:

Gate trouble. That was the only possible explanation. She must have gone through a poorly calibrated gate and ended up here in Aqures Ixen. But there was no such place as "Aqures Ixen," not in Tyria and she highly doubted she was in the Mists. How, exactly, did some moron mess up a gate so badly it transported her to what she can only assume was some other world? Sure, quite a few krewes make their discoveries by accident, but it was like being so stupid it went beyond idiot and somehow made its way to the other end of the intelligence scale at genius.
Zojja just didn't like the idea of having to credit an inept gatekeeper for this discovery of the existence of another world. When she got back to Rata Sum, she would have to publish her findings on this.
"Ah...Zojja? Kupo?"
Oh right, she still had that puffball with her. Hovering about a foot above her head was the moogle that had been assigned to her. He had a most unfortunate name of Kupu, which not only sounded ridiculous because of a moogle's tendency to slip in the word kupo everywhere, but because the name was very similar to that of someone she knew. Someone she disliked thinking about. Although it did make her wonder how moogle naming conventions worked.
Because in asuran, Kupu would definitely be a girl's name. If Kupu was born an asura, that would have meant his parents would have hated him and that would just be sad.
"What is it? It better be important."
"Just...are you hungry? We're passing by the food stands right now, kupo."
Unlike the aforementioned jerk she didn't like thinking about, Kupu was rather timid and to be fair to him, obedient. Like he'd be a perfect personal servant. Of course, she wouldn't use that word out loud. Something more like..."errand runner" would be good
"I suppose. I better get used to the food here if I'm going to stay here for a while."
And she was certain that it would just be a while. This was just a temporary visit, she had far more important things to be doing back at where she came from. Either way, it's difficult to think on an empty stomach, so the three foot tall asura made her way over to the nearest stand to browse the selection. After giving it precisely five seconds of thought, a claw tapping her chin, she turned to the nearest person to ask, "What's good here?"
Fireworks
Ah, fireworks. Now this was something Zojja was familiar with. She never had much of an opinion on them. Fireworks explode in pretty colors and generally, she was not interested in explosions unless it was her enemies doing the exploding. She would have retreated right back to the house she had been given, but Kupu somehow convinced her to stay for the fireworks show. So as long as she was there, she might as well enjoy it.
That is, she would if she could see anything.
It seems like the entire population of Aqures Ixen turned out for the fireworks show and there were just too many tall things here. Humans and those mutated hylek things. Hypello. Whatever.
Whatever vantage points she could use to sit on were already being occupied by moogles and Tarutaru. It was inconvenient, to say the least. And it had become so crowded she'd have to push her way through the crowd in order to leave.
"Sorry, kupo," Kupu apologized. "I didn't think it would be this crowded here."
"Ugh, if only I had Mr. Sparkles," Zojja huffed. She could ride him. Or she could use him to clear a path to leave. Either or.
Why WOULDN'T I pick food?!
It took Charlotte a moment to figure out who was talking to her, looking around her, before looking down. She tried not to look surprised, but she hadn't yet seen anyone like this stranger.
Shaking her head, she said, "Sorry, I don't know. I'm new here, too." She turned to Mogsy. "Well? What do you recommend? You're the expert, here."
"Striped apples!" came the instant reply, a huge grin on Mogsy's face. "They're the best! They're sooo sweet and delicious! And totally healthy! Really!"
Charlotte's skeptical look said otherwise.
no subject
She reasoned that Kupu had little to no reason to try to poison her, and such food wouldn't be given out here if it was unsafe. But if it tasted bad, she was going to blame both of those moogles for it. So she opened her mouth, revealing a set of razor sharp teeth and bit in.
...
"It's...very sweet," came the verdict.
A bit too sweet.
no subject
"Right?" Mogsy grinned. Turning on Charlotte, he said, "Charlotte! You try one too, kupo!"
She shook her head. "No thank you." The stand next to them was selling steamed catfish, though. Charlotte jerked her head in that direction. "What about that?"
"Steamed catfish?" Mogsy put a paw to his cheek. "It's nice and very filling, but I don't like eating fish..."
Well, she was looking for something more filling than sugary treats, but she didn't want to eat just one dish today. Charlotte turned her attention to the short stranger. "Would you like to split one?"
no subject
"That sounds fine. Kupu, go get one."
The moogle hovered dumbly in the air for a second before asking if he really needed to go over to the stand just a few steps away and retrieve a fish.
"Yes. Are you, or are you not, my assistant? That means doing menial tasks that I don't feel like doing myself."
Kupu couldn't argue with that. "Yes, Zojja," he responded before making his way over to the booth and returning with a fish, an extra plate, and a second set of cutlery. After slicing the fish, Zojja offered half of the fish to the human.
no subject
While Zojja was bossing Kupu around, Charlotte said sharply, "Mogsy! Get a grip! You are not eating out of the trash! There's plenty more striped apples at the stands."
But soon, there were other, non-trashbinned food to hold both their attention. At Zojja's height, Charlotte had to lean down to take her share. "Thank you!"
Time for a taste test. Verdict?
why did you have to link the most superior of fish dishes i am so hungry rn
"Good stuff," Zojja decided before taking another bite. She might have to get another one of these, or figure out where they were serving them here.
Meanwhile, Kupu attempted to console Mogsy by getting a fresh striped apple and presenting it to him.
because when do i not link delicious food when given the opportunity to?
Mogsy was upset. He was inconsolable. He was in despair-- But when Kupu presented the striped apple, Mogsy happily took it. "Oh, you didn't have to! Thank you!" Instead of stuffing his face with the apple, Mogsy split it in half and offered one half to the other moogle.
About halfway through her share of the fish, Charlotte made a pause in her eating. "So... Zojja, was it? If you don't mind my asking, what did you do in your world?"
Aside from her own interest, Kaji had gotten her thinking about how peoples' backgrounds could be a possible factor into why they were Heroes of Light.

"A few years ago I used to be an adventurer. Now I find myself busy at home with the usual stuff. Just fighting with ineffectual, outdated, and corrupt governments and such. What I'm supposed to be doing now is tutoring my apprentice, but as she's there and I'm here that's proving to be quite impossible at the moment."
I originally read "tutoring" as "torturing" :|a
"I can imagine," Charlotte agreed. "What made you stop adventuring in favour of tutoring and picking fights?"

She wore a bright smile by the time she reached Zojja and her cheeks were light pink from trying to run through the crowd. Trying to move through the dense collection of people was exhilarating for someone who has never done it before and she couldn't stop the giddy feeling. Everything unpleasant about today was forgotten in the moment. "Do you want to see the fireworks? I know a spot. Follow me!"
Zelda didn't wait, if the girl wanted to follow she would but her moogle flew behind Zojja trying to push her to follow. "Come on! Kupo!"
no subject
"I'm going! I'm going! No need to push so hard, you levitating hairball!"
How could moogles even fly in the first place? Those wings looked much too flimsy and small to support its weight. Was it the pompom? Was a moogle actually made of ninety percent air? She wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. Kupu followed dutifully behind, a persistent follower as always.
"I guess I should say thanks so..." it was only then did Zojja got a look at the girl helping her. There was something different about her that she couldn't quite place at first, but then she saw it. It was the ears. They were pointed, almost asuran in nature. Maybe more like sylvari, if sylvari had skin and flesh instead of bark and leaves. "...uh, thank you..."
She's human, right?
"...human girl."
no subject
The voice of her companion made her turn. "My name is Zelda." Her bright blue eyes smiled with the rest of her features as she moved to stand next to Zojja. "Human?"
no subject
From up here on the rooftop, there was a perfect view of the fireworks. It was a wonderful display of colors, she had to admit.
no subject
The night air was warmer than she would have expected but it was nice. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, even in their current situations.
no subject
Good with social interaction, Zojja was not. The colorful display continued to explode in the night sky and it was enough to make her forget about this whole Hero of Light business just for a little while. During a short lull in the show, she asked, "So, if you're not human, what are you?"
no subject
The fireworks had a similar effect on Zelda. They were beautiful and the bursting colors were a perfect distraction. This whole day felt like a distraction and she waited for the realization of their situation to return.
no subject
"Then I guess you're not from here either. Another one of these Heroes of Light?"
no subject
"I'm not sure how I feel about it yet." She looked down at her new friend. "What about you?"

fireworks 8')
There was nothing he could do about it now, but knowing that just made it worse. He couldn't shake this feeling of wrongness, and he was itching to get back to Tyria -- back to Kryta -- back to Jennah. If anything had happened to her...
Those were the thoughts he was lost in, his arms crossed over his chest, as he stared up at the colorful lights that exploded across the sky. It wasn't until a familiar voice, tiny yet angry, hit his ears that he realized just how zoned out to the rest of the world he'd been. He'd know that voice anywhere. Logan glanced down at her from the corners of his eyes and had to actively force away the sudden urge he felt to fall to the ground in relief over not being in this nuthouse alone.
"If you ask me really nicely, I'll give you a boost," he said, as though it was the most normal thing in the world.
He gave her a bit of a cocky, lopsided smile as he looked down at her, but it was mostly just a mask for the small bit of discomfort that he felt. Even though he and the rest of Destiny's Edge had made peace, Zojja had always been a bit of a wildcard to him, even when they were close. Well, "close." No one ever really seemed to get close to Zojja, and Logan knew that she preferred it that way. Still, he hoped he knew her well enough to think that she'd be grateful enough for a familiar face to not immediately take out one of his knees at the implication of him carrying her around on his shoulders like a child.
Hoped being the important word there.
no subject
Zojja's feelings on Logan were extremely complex, to say the least. Slowly, she had begun to forgive Destiny's Edge for what happened all those years ago. Zojja, however, is not someone who forgives easily. She's only really just gotten to the point of trusting her fellow Destiny's Edge members to not screw up again. And that was a big accomplishment.
If only Logan hadn't...!
No, she had to stop thinking like that. She had to stop living in the past as many have taught and shown her. But it was just so difficult sometimes, when she'd look at Logan or Eir and remember that if they hadn't made the choices they did back then, Snaff may still be alive today.
And then she realized that she was looking at Logan Glitching Thackeray.
And she was happy to see him.
But like hell she wasn't going to give him a rough time.
"Logan! If you think I'm going to beg you to give me a boost you have another think coming! What are you even doing here anyway? I'd expect to see maybe Rytlock to jump into some magic hole because he dropped his flaming sword into it or something like that, but you? You're more cautious than him. A little more cautious, anyway."
Fortunately, the Seraph's captain's knees were safe for the time being. His ears, perhaps, not so much. Zojja continued on like this for perhaps another minute, ranting and throwing various insults at him using words and phrases that mainly only meant things to asura.
"...so you better tell me how you got here right now so I can figure out a way for us to get out!"
no subject
"Whoa, wait a minute," he said. "You mean you don't know how we got here, either? How is that even possible? I thought you knew everything."
It wasn't even meant to be a mockery or an insult. Logan really did think that Zojja knew everything, especially when it came to things like unstable realities and world hopping. Sure, she was technically a golemancer, but didn't all asura know everything about everything? That was supposed to be their whole thing, right? At least, that was how Logan saw them through his human eyes.
"I just assumed that it was some asuran experiment gone wrong or some trick of Scarlet's," he went on. "I don't care what the reports say. She's clever enough to make us all believe that she's dead, just so that she can pull something like this."
no subject
It was nice Logan thought of her that way though.
"I considered that possibility," Zojja replied, crossing her arms in thought. Being Taimi's mentor, there really was no way she couldn't consider Scarlet Briar, one of the most intelligent and certainly the most insane sylvari to fall off the Pale Tree. And considering some of the characters that the Mother Tree has given birth to, that was a true accomplishment. "Though I was more of the impression that faulty asura gates were the true cause at first. The most I can say right now is that the actual culprit of our current predicament actually comes from this world. If, assuming what we've been told is true, someone or something reached over and very rudely pulled us over here. I certainly have better things to do than be some world's hero-on-demand and I'm sure you do too."
Boom, went the fireworks, long forgotten.
"Have you seen anyone else we know or should be interested in?" By that, she meant mostly other members of Destiny's Edge. But other important figures like order leaders, politicians, or even just a regular Tyrian citizen would do.
no subject
Zojja's words disturbed him, though. To think that there was someone or something in this world that was powerful enough to pull them out of Tyria and drop them here was a whole new level of frightening. Not even Jennah had that kind of power (though if she did, it would probably make his job as Commander of the Seraph much easier. Instead of locking people up, they could just drop them into vortexes and let some other world deal with them. Oh, if only...).
Logan uncomfortably shifted his weight from foot to foot as he took a moment to stare up at the fireworks again. He hated how helpless this whole thing made him feel.
