Characters: Gathering for Newbie's to meet and Mingle
Where: Observatory
When: March 7th
Summary: Zelda is getting a party together for those who are new and old so that everyone can meet. She will also answer anyone's question.
Warning: None yet. Will monitor.


The Observatory looks like it was still being worked on from the outside. The building was old and the heroes have only had a few months to work on it. Stables were in the process of being built around the side and it looks as if you can see the whole city from its highest point.

Inside the main entrance was cleaned and made to feel comfortable with soft lighting and polished floors. The front desk has snacks and drinks on it while chairs line the walls. The designs are simple favoring functionality over gaudiness.

"Fuck. If I'd died I'd have just died. All my friends are back to the mud, or tried to put me there."

He frowns, and says to Tazendra. "One of the last two friends I had tried to kill me in my throne room, and I had to jump off a cliff. NOt sure if I should try to kill him when I get back, or just move on."

Tazendra considered. "Ah, that is a puzzle. I cannot say I would relish fighting a friend, even one who had tried to kill me. Unless he had attempted to complete the matter, in which case I would take exception."

But the closest she'd come was the time she'd accidentally found herself in Loki's dreams. And dreams hadn't count.

"Fightin isn't about enjoyment, it's about what you have to do. I can't leave an enemy at my back, not one like Black Dow. He's killed more men up North than the Plague. Maybe even almost as much a I killed."

He sighs, "But I didn't want to be chief, let alone King. Maybe it would be better to run and start over again somewhere else."

Tazendra did fight for enjoyment, but she realized not everyone is like her. "If he is likely to return, even if you abdicate, then perhaps there is no question of choice. Save that I doubt he could reach you here."

Which was something. No need to worry about problems at home when there were problems that were more pressing. This was probably why Tazendra's barony was effectively run by her steward and his staff, while she ran off adventuring.

"If dow thinks I'm still breathing, he'll finish it."

He frowns, "I still don't exactly know where here is, other than strange."

"It is another world," Tazendra declared. "As such, the means to arrive and depart are not accessible to most." Even in her own world, where such things were known, it was considered a specialized branch of magic. And she'd learned that more worlds were unaware of such magics than not.

[bloodynine]

"Uh, all right. At least it isn't the Other side, with demons and devils and such." He looks relieved about that.

Tazendra knew what a demon was, though the Dragaeran magical definition was a bit off from most. "How, devils?"

[bloodynine]

"Uh. I don't know. That's wizard shit."

He shrugs. "I just know you're not supposed to touch the other side. It's the First Law."

Tazendra nodded. "Summoning is not an area of magic I have any interest in," she agreed. "And I do not believe demons care for it."

She'd only met one demon, who was on the gods' business. Tazendra didn't know the politics, but Sethra Lavode hadn't seemed concerned, which meant Tazendra was not concerned.

"I don't have any interest in magic at all. I mostly just want a full belly, a warm room, and maybe someone to fuck every now and then." He sighs. "But they brought us here as some kinda damn heroes, didn't they?"

"They did," Tazendra ignored the first statement. She could claim offense, but it wasn't directed at her so she didn't have to. "I wonder how we were chosen if you have no desire for it."

[bloodynine]

"I reckon it doesn't much matter. I mean, there are enough songs about me already to choke a bard or three, I guess. They could have gone looking for heroes and found killers instead, because that's all heroes really are. Hard men."

[fearlessherosheart]

"And women," Tazendra said. "Though I would not describe myself as hard."

[bloodynine]

"You look softer, but it's a nice kind of soft. But I reckon you've held a sword and fought with the carls, from how you talk."

[fearlessherosheart]

"I certainly have held a sword and fought, though I cannot say if it was with a 'carl' or not," Tazendra said.

[bloodynine]

"A carl's just someone a chief trusts to do his fighting for him. Fighting is his occupation, rather than farming or making pots or whatever."

[fearlessherosheart]

"A solider, then?" Tazendra asked. "I did serve in His Majesty's Guard in my youth."

[bloodynine]

"Southerners call them soldiers, we call them carls. Soldiers are more like tin men, carls are fighters."

[fearlessherosheart]

"Tin men?" Tazendra wondered, then dismissed it. "I am most certainly a fighter."
