"Ah- Kenshin." Her smile widens as she dips her head a little in greeting. "Yeah," she says, a little dismissively. "I'll be just fine. More important things to worry about, anyway?"

"Cities are being evacuated, quick as they can, but they're running out of places to run." Her top concern has always been for the people they are here to save. "Hope we don't have to wait until there's literally nothing left before we can win this." She shakes her head.

"How's Kaoru holding up?" It's impossible to miss the connection between Kenshin and Kaoru, something deeper than friendship, and a shining spot of happiness in the middle of all of this. With her own happiness, her husband and daughter, back at home (safe?) Gwen has taken to asking people about the connections that they have made here.

"We will see this through, that we will," he said lightly. Even as he spoke, he knew that he was just speaking words. They still have to act and only then could his words be full of certainty. As it stood now, he was still unsure if there would be a next day, let alone one in which all can survive.

At the mentioning of her name, he looked over the other Heroes, finding her in her plain clothing talking quietly to some others. Even at that distance, she looked over at him and smiled even as he dipped his head a little. Look at him, acting like a young man when he was at least a decade older than her. Then again, he was still surprised that she actually accepted him so much as she did, so there was that at least.

Oro? But Kaoru shouldn't... I am not worthy of such!

He ignored that doubting voice and turned his attention back to Gwen. "She is samurai, that she is." As if it an answer that anyone would understand. "She is fine. This one is more worried about one's own chances in a fight, that one is."

Not that he was terrible, far from it, but Kenshin had kept his skills more of a secret. His skills was at such a level he could make his swordsmanship look like a complete mockery of such, even though it takes more skill to look incompetent than to actually be deadly.

Maybe Gwen doesn't understand the specifics of such an answer, but the sentiment behind it shines through. Be like asking Rhys what he thought of Gwen's chances out on a battlefield. The tiny interaction between the two of them brings an answering smile to Gwen's face. "I'm happy for the both of you. Any luck, we won't need to worry about her versus your chances in a fight." Not a lie, just a quiet hope, in the way that Gwen gets, even in the face of a lot of evidence to the contrary.

"All this, in a way, it doesn't matter. Not that it isn't important, but you two still have each other. Still have your world. It looks a lot better like we can win this, if you've still got something to hang on to." Not that Gwen doesn't, it's just that her reason for hanging on isn't right here.
