That wasn't to be as he heard the others around him. The others that survived all this. Everyone was losing friends on this mission. He couldn't stop now, not for this. Rising up, he turned to the others, about to call out when Haytham put it in far crueler tones. Then Kenshin, rising to face the man. They didn't have time for this. The shock had stalled their frenzied dash towards their goals but there was nothing that could be done. He wouldn't let Leonardo's death be in vein.
"Kenshin," he got out and the grief in his own voice almost choked his words. "We must move forward. Leonardo... everyone, they believed in this mission and we must see it through."
Edward looks to the others, seeing Squall and Estaban pulling up Roxas. He doesn't want to get in the way and would only rush over if it seemed the two of them needed another hand.

Again.
Once the others had pulled him up, he gave each of them a nod. Murmuring a sullen "Thanks," eyes lingering on Squall a split second longer than Esteban. Too close. a voice in his head murmured, a flood of relief washing over him. Roxas angrily pushed the feeling away. Now was not the time to feel relieved, their mission was far from done. Not wanting to waste any time, he shoved past them, only pausing to make sure no one else was left standing on the increasing fragile bridge. "Haytham's right. We have to keep moving!" he snapped, disliking the fact that they agreed on something so easily.
Really?! They just saved your life! Those are their friends back there! "Shut up," Roxas muttered under his breath, trying to shake the guilty feeling suddenly flooding his head.

There was Zell's voice in his mind again, but Squall shook it off. They didn't have time for this; what's done was done and they had bigger things to worry about. As sad as the loss of their comrades was, they had to move on. He gave a nod in agreement with Roxas and the others who agreed to continue their mission. "We should finish our mission," he spoke before he also moved away from the broken part of the bridge and the unsettling appearance of many from his home world in crystal form on the other side.

"...He's right, Kenshin. We all know it, it's just that no one wants to say it. If we don't keep on track, we'll lose everything. Everyone."

Kenichi, this is just like last time. You're not at fault for my death.
He kept quiet at the sound of Saori's voice in his head. It seemed so jarring to hear her when he just witness her die again.
no subject
His eyes narrowed as they locked with Kenshin's. "Why? Why what? Why did the bridge fall? Why would you ask me that? If you mean to accuse me of something, come out and say it." He turned before Kenshin could respond, smirking as the others came to his support, even if indirectly.
{So this is how you do it. Stage an accident or take advantage of a situation. You don't even have the decency to kill them face to face!}
Haytham whirled back around, his eyes scanning the area. That voice had been buzzing softly in his mind but now he heard it clearly. It was definitely that Assassin. But she had just fallen into the abyss behind them. How? His Assassin skills, Eagle Vision, he couldn't sense anyone hiding...

"You are not that subtle," Kenshin said, keeping his voice level even as his hand tighten. The calm was settling in his blood and bones, one that not even the inner 'no, no more hitokiri' could not completely shake. "It is hard to hide killings from killers, it is so. Is that why you dropped the bridge? Because Kidd disagreed with you?"
He could draw and strike before that man turned to face him again. He could just attack and feel better about what he had seen over the past few months and years. But he was not as assassin any more, only someone who knew the signs and could react to them, even if it was just too late.
"Desmond. Aveline. Others as well, all who spoke differently from you and came from your lands. Just like Kidd. Accidents happen, but this was no accident, that it was not."

Can't let them all die.
A voice, chiming with Edward's own thoughts. Too much was lost already. He couldn't have more. Still, Edward hesitates. He lets Haytham, and anyone else who might have noticed treachery, talk.
no subject
"What? What good would killing anyone on our side do? We need all the help we can get, and intentionally taking those who want to help out seems backwards at best."
While this was mostly directed at Kenshin, Ban cast a questioning glance to Haytham at the end of his statement. He didn't want to believe the man was that foolish, especially to murder his son and Kenshin's wife in front of them both.

His hand went to his sword but he didn't draw it yet. He may not have all of his god powers, but if push comes to shove he could still hold his ground in a fight.
"Ban's right. If we ever want to see our homes again, we can't afford to lose anymore allies. Look, we might not have always gotten along but that's no excuse to take away their lives. Time's not on our side now and spilling each other's blood isn't going to bring them back. Save your bloodlust for the real enemy and then we'll settle this."

Stepping back from the swordsman in his face he made a show of adjusting his coat. "Well then. If we're all done posturing, perhaps we should get a move on before our lead on our pursuers is lost." He then turned his cold gaze back to Kenshin, "I'll be happy to discuss this further after the completion of our business here."
He turned and began to move, leaving it up to the others whether to follow him or not, not that there was anywhere else to go.

Burying one's head in the sand was only useful if one was trying to find worms.
Kenshin had always been fast. The Job he equipped may not be the fastest, but it was one that gave him access to old skills. Like the one that allowed him to draw his blade and strike. Sliding easily across the walkway in his simple sandals, his sword's edge came to a rest a mere breath away from Haytham's throat.
"Only one posturing is you."
no subject
"Kenshin. If we don't get moving, we're all going to be dead. Put you're sword away."
His eyes shifted to Haytham, and then narrowed. He wanted to believe the man wasn't responsible. But if it was true...
"We'll deal with this once we get to safety."
no subject
"Look, we all just lost someone we cared for and I'm truly sorry for your loss. How do you think those who left us would feel if they were to see us right now though? Even if you kill him, it won't change the fact they're never coming back. If Haytham really is behind this though, he will not go unpunished for long. So please stand down for now and we should go. We'll come back when this is all over to give them proper final rites, I promise."
He pulled away to slowly, turned around, and followed Haytham for now. The idea of dealing swift punishment at the other man did cross his mind and that he couldn't deny that despite how hypocritical it would be for him after what he said to Kenshin.
I assume we're ending it here?
Perhaps an accident could be arranged for the others in this group as well. It would look suspicious, to be sure, be he wasn't about to die in this world. Not without a fight.
He felt a twitch run through him. A sense of vertigo at the edge of the cliffside. A sensation ran through him akin to feeling of hearing the last words of someone he had to put down.
'You're a bastard. You're not worth your father's name. I don't know what he was to you, but he was a good man and I can't believe you'd just cast him aside so easily.
You'll get what's coming to you. You and any other Templars I meet will pay for your crimes.'
Haytham smirked as the voice came and went. Just his imagination. Or even if it was not, there was nothing it could do. "Perhaps. Or perhaps your fellows are finally getting what they deserve." He said under his breath.
Looking back, he waved his hands to the others left alive, "Come on! We must be off! We have ground to make up and not much time to do so." And so he turned and ran off deeper into the ruins.
