Intro Log || The Night of the Thirteen Moogles

Characters: All the "Heroes of Light" (only new characters can start threads).
Where: Aqures Ixen.
When: The 5th of October. The new Heroes of Light will awaken early in the morning.
Summary: The new Heroes of Light awaken in Aqures Ixen and are informed by their assigned Moogles of what the situation and what their destinies are. This a log for them to react to the situation, meet each other and be welcomed by the former batches of Heroes of Light. New Heroes of Light will not have their Crystal.
Warning: N/A

Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Within an instant, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you knew it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, your world vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see. Even you feel different: all the powers you might once have had, are now gone. It is silent, cold and it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you.

At this moment, when it looks as though nothing but a never-ending void awaits you, a red Crystal forms before you. In this void, its warmth compels you to grab it. Upon doing so, you can hear a soft, soothing voice speaking:

"Wake up."

Soon, the void itself vanishes and is replaced by distant noises of engines. Had it all been nothing more than a dream? The soothing voice repeats its call one more time, but is soon replaced with a much less graceful "Wake up Kupo," the call of the Moogle finally waking you up. But you are no longer in your world, nor in the void. You are before the Crystal of Fire, in the third district of a city called Aqures Ixen. At this point, you may realize the engine noise actually originates from an Airship flying low over the city and headed to the castle. As if it wasn't strange enough, your clothes have changed as well. They are now a reflection of the Jobs you are wielding. Last but not least, you are surrounded by Moogles, small and fluffy creatures who are more than happy to tell you about everything you want to know, about your 'destiny' as a Hero of Light, about what awaits you.

Or at least, they will tell you everything they do know, which isn't much in the end.

The only people around you are like you-- There are quite a few of them, all clothed in their Job garbs and most likely wondering what is happening. If somehow you do not realize it, the Moogle who woke you up will be more than happy to inform you there are others like you around. In fact, there are other Heroes who arrived these past months too and they will come soon! Like you, they had Jobs and a Crystal-- Wait, you don't have a Crystal...? That's weird.

Your Moogle will be puzzled by this fact, as all Heroes of Light are supposed to have a crystal with them. Well, maybe you are not a Hero of Light after all?

The Other Heroes
— Shortly Thereafter —

Thanks to the efficiency of Mognet, it does not take long for the other Heroes to come around: those who arrived in this world one or two months ago. You may have imagined heroic and charismatic figures when your Moogle told you that there were other Heroes of Light in this city. You may have imagined persons with fearsome powers worthy of being revered as heroes. And more importantly, you may have imagined them as people who would have all the answers to your, doubtlessly, numerous questions.

If so, you may be up for a minor disappointment. Still, for the most part they know more than you on the situation and may be more than happy to fill you in, especially if your Moogle didn't tell you much.

The Night of the Thirteen Moogles
— Anytime —

Something that may be obvious, is that the city has a spooky feel to it. There are various decorations, it clearly looks like a work in progress but it seems the idea is to make the city looks as scary as possible. Characters familiar with Halloween may recognize the decoration as being strikingly similar. The Moogles will be more than pleased to explain these are all preparations for the upcoming Night of the Thirteen Moogles on the 31st, and they will explain the legends to characters if they ask.

Hopefully all this talk of curse and King Moggle Mog is nothing more than legend.

The City of Aqures Ixen
— Anytime —

There are a lot of things left to do in the city, especially with everyone excited for the upcoming celebration. Starting from 18:00, a series of BLitzball games will take place at the stadium located in the tenth district, opposing amateur teams in a friendly competition. At the same time, a small group of Triple Triad players are playing before Mognet Office in the ninth district, and they are more than happy to teach the rule to anyone passing by. Characters are free to enter and play games of Triple Triad, and if they do so they will be given very basic cards and explained the rules. This may be the start of a promising career!

Characters are also free to visit the city-- Be it Mognet Office just behind the Triple Triad games is filled with very busy Moogles, or the Airship Port in the twelfth district from where characters can board for free Airships from Shoopuf Airline, knowing the next airship departing from Aqures Ixen will do so on the 9th. Still, characters can board an exposition Airship should they like and visit it.

Or maybe you could visit your new house in the 11th District, and get to know your new neighbors and housemate. Hopefully your neighbors are people you will get along with.

Ramza nodded. Helping people. That seemed noble enough a purpose. He relaxed a little. Laguna did not seem a threat, nor did the soldier appear to perceive any danger from the city. Though he had no real reason to trust Laguna's insticts, there was equally no reason not to.

"We would render aid more efficiently had we clear orders," he commiserated. "Is it true the Queen who rules this land is missing? There must certainly be a second in command, or a regent who would rule in her absence." His own country had experienced decades of struggle with succession; it seemed inconceivable to Ramza that this royal line did not have one or more heirs waiting to seize power.

"I hear you on that one." he said, putting his hands into his pockets and rocking a little on the heels of his feet; it would have been a lot easier to get things done if he had any ideas of what he was supposed to be doing, but for now that didn't look like it was happening anytime soon.

"From what I hear. Me and my friend here haven't heard anything about that kind of stuff through the grapevine, all we know is she's vanished. I'm sure there's someone keeping things in line, but I've had my hands full just getting used to this place." he finished with a sigh, spinning on his heels a little so he was facing away from the knight, only stopping to raise a hand over his shoulder to give Ramza a motion to follow along.

"I'm sure we'll figure it out eventually though. For now, you look half-starved; let's go grab a bite, my treat."

Ramza followed Laguna's lead, glad for the direction.

"The monarch is vanished. Do they not suspect murder?" If not, the political atmosphere was very different from Ivalice, indeed. He put aside those grim suspicions at the mention of food.

"Simon and I were on our way to find a meal," he agreed. And then he paused. "What form of currency do the cooks take?" He was loath to place a financial burden on his new ally so soon after meeting, but he might have no choice in the matter.

"Haven't heard anything about any murders, so I'm guessing they've got some reason to assume she's still kicking." he said as he placed his hands behind his head, allowing his shoulders to stretch out a bit as he walked. "If they've got enough power to pull us from wherever we were to here, I'll bet my bottom gil they have enough resources to at least figure that much out."

Speaking of the currency of the land... "Funny enough, looks like they take gil. Doesn't look like everyone here's used to that, but made things a heck of a lot easier on me." He'd had to learn enough as it was already without having to adapt to a new form of currency as well.

"Gil? Really?" He supposed that should not be as surprising as it seemed, given all of the other strange goings-on here, but it still seemed odd.

He pulled a small pouch from his belt and picked up a few coins out of it. They were rough, imperfect things, made with a hammer and dies. the looked like something someone more modern than Ramza might find in a museum or at an old antique store. "Will they accept these?" he wondered. Maybe 'gil' was just a word that meant 'money', without regard to different types.

"Dunno, never seen anything like that before." he said with a small shrug, giving the antique looking money a glance. It looked valuable enough that someone might make a trade with it, so it stood to reason they might accept it. They'd taken his money without a second thought, so he figured that anything was possible.

"Guess we'll find out, right?"

Ramza nodded and dropped the coins back into the pouch. Laguna was easy to trust, and he seemed confident enough in this. Besides, if worst came to worst, Ramza could always barter a piece of armor or one of the daggers tucked away in his clothes.

"Thank you for your assistance, by the way," he said, softly so as not to be overheard by his moogle. "I was not sure where exactly I was to find a meal. Simon pointed out a few places, but they had only nuts to offer."

No sweat, you look like a meat and potatoes kinda go anyways.

[He said with equal softness and a wink. Though he did take on a more thoughtful look for a few seconds.]

Don't knock the nuts though, they're not half bad. Give a good energy boost too...it's weird, but they're good in a pinch.

Ramza was not sure what a potato was, but he had learned not to be picky about what he ate when he had left home and become a mercenary. He doubted he would dislike them.

"I will keep that in mind, about the nuts. If Simon does not devour them all, that is." The normally nervous moogle had gotten a greedy look in his eyes as they had passed the Kupo stands earlier on, and Ramza got the feeling that he would have to fight to try one if he ever had the inclination.

"Yeah...kind of a moggle delicacy." he said with a laugh, though Julia was quick to tap him on the shoulder after he'd said it. "It's Moogle, Mr. Laguna." he said with a small sigh, to which she only got a dismissive handwave in return, "That's what I said, right? Anyways, the place should be...right...here!" he finished, pointing towards what could clearly be recognized as a tavern with a painted sign hanging over the entrance that read "The Black Chocobo".

"It's a little on the divey-er side of things, but the food's top notch."

[personal profile] zodiac_brave 2014-10-19 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ramza nodded. He smiled a little at the sign. Black Chocobos could be a fierce enemy. It seemed a good name for a tavern.

"I have dined in less reputable establishments," Ramza told the other soldier. If The Black Chocobo did not have an underground poaching ring running out of the back room, it would not even fall in the top five. "This will do just fine."

Laguna smiled and waved his new friend in, revealing the interior to be slightly more upscale than the establishments Ramza had mentioned. Thought not by much. It was a dimly lit place that smelled of alcohol and cigar smoke, though both of those smells were overpowered by a much more potent smell of cooking meat. In the background, there was some low chatter and the sounds of merriment being had, stories being swapped, and a general vibe of good feelings hung in the air.

The soldier hopped up to the bar itself and waved Ramza over to join with a smile.

"Like I said, place looks a little shifty, but everyone here is good people. I'm surprised this place doesn't smell more like smoke and booze with all the stress everyone's under."

Ramza looked around, nodding approvingly. He joined Laguna at the bar, letting his posture relax slightly as he sat on the stool next to the brunet.

"Are they under more stress than usual?" he asked the other man. He supposed the new Heroes might be, having been forcibly brought to a new world, but many of the patrons here looked like town folk. The city seemed prosperous enough; Ramza had not seen any of the signs of poverty and starvation that had plagued so many of the towns in Ivalice. "I know the moogles talk of a coming Calamity, but do the people here believe that? There always seems to be someone foreseeing apocalypse in the near future, and they are very rarely taken seriously."
