Preparing for things to come.
Where: Aqures Ixen
When: June 29th – July 5th
Summary: Zelda isn’t one for war but she’s going to start practicing and thinking of strategies. She knows that there will be a meeting but she doesn’t want to attend empty handed. She is also on a look out for new heroes. It’s a bad time for them to show up which makes her think that they will.
Warning: None.
Zelda was always busy and with the threat of war she was even busier. She was coming up with plans using the city map as a guide. It would be better to use the cities natural strengths during the fight, such as preexisting walls, but it’s clear that this city wasn’t made to withstand a war. The best they could do was guess where the Empire might focus their attention and so Zelda made a list.
1.) Jessie’s Lab
2.) The Hospital
3.) The Fire Crystal
4.) The Castle
5.) The Old Observatory
6.)The old Magitek Research Facility
7.) Mognet Office
8.) Airship Port
There were other possible areas too but she didn’t think they’d attack schools or homes. They couldn’t chance leaving areas unprotected but she supposed they could put a concentration of people around specific points. There were a few locations that worried her more than others. She didn’t know if they should move the heroes in stasis or if they should focus around the crystal of fire. It would really help if they knew what the Empire was after.
She worked late into the evening, pouring over notes and making scribbles and plans on small pieces of paper.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
She was planning to fight and while her skills lay primarily in wit she wasn’t a stranger to brute strength. She thought of changing her jobs back to the skills she had mastered but she knew that Link wouldn’t want her on the front lines. Instead she practiced with the bow that he had made for her: aiming, firing, and then fetching the five arrows she was using for practice.
Zelda could be found practicing in a few places. Right outside the town was the most common. She could aim at trees or things around her without the possibly of hitting a foolish passerby. She could also be found right outside the Observatory, pass the garden that she had create and along the back of the building. She set up a small firing range with a few straw looking dummies at the opposite end. They weren’t perfect but they let her practice without destroying any arrows.
She could also be found using her illusionist skills such as duplicating herself. This would be the easiest way for her to help from afar and she hoped that she could think of ways to use these skills in a larger scale battle. She couldn’t help but wonder how well the Heroes of Light would ban together. She remembered the first time they all fought. It was in the Chocobo Ranch and it hadn’t gone very well at all but since then people have grown and changed. New heroes have arrived and they found a purpose.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Along with everything else Zelda was on the look out to see if new heroes would arrive. This was a constant duty that she gave herself but with war looming she decided to keep her eyes and ears out more so. It would be a perfectly awful time for the heroes to awake which made her think that they would. She also had no idea where they would show up which weighed heavily on her thoughts.

During practice! After Robin's back from the Stiltzkin's Castle.
And tired. She hasn't slept much since she arrived.
She spots Zelda and pauses. She remembers Zelda well; she met her when she arrived. The woman pauses, then she lifts a hand and waves it in her direction. "Zelda!" she calls out. She stifles a yawn as she approaches.
Then she spots the... multiple... Zeldas.
"Zeldas?"
During practice! After Robin's back from the Stiltzkin's Castle.
"Robin. You look exhausted." Her brow furrows in worry. "You should rest." Of course Zelda should also take her own advice and rest too. She had been working herself ever since the news went out trying to discover more and think of new plans.
She knew the city well and she knew that the military will be able to help but she also knew that a lot of this would fall on the heroes. She wanted to give them their best chance.

She sighed, before she looked around -- and then she looked back at Zelda. She rubbed at her eyes, and then picked a tree nearby to lean again. "I thought I should inspect the city's defenses, first." She wanted to invent a plan to slow down the Empire's forces -- especially their Magitek Armor. But, she wasn't doing much of that without sleep. "Were you practicing..."
She didn't know that much about Illusionists. She waved a hand, vaguely, as if that could fill in what she was talking about.

It sometimes didn't feel like enough but it would never stop Zelda from trying. She walked over towards Robin stopping at a tree where she had placed a bag and a few provisions. She didn't know how long she'd be out here and so she came prepared in case she ran into trouble. Her bow was sitting against the tree as well but she didn't reach for it.
Instead Zelda grabbed a contain of water with a thin smile. "I have a few maps of the city that show that sort of detail. I don't think this city was made with a battle in mind."

She folded her arms over her chest, then she nodded, thoughtfully. "It's a good idea," she said. "The ranged abilities of an Archer and the power to confuse... you'll be able to do a lot of good."
She had Red Mage and Scholar -- and that was it, right now. She could try using her abilities as a Pirate, but she didn't feel at home using that particular Job. Robin frowned, softly, and then she looked up at Zelda. Her head tilted to the side for a moment. "From all that I've read, we can expect no quarter from the Imperials," she said. "But I don't think we can retreat."

Zelda pressed her back against the tree enjoying the slight breeze that washed over the mostly empty plans. It was nice to be able to lean back in the shade and without Kopula with her she had no idea how long she had been practicing.
Her gaze flicked over towards Robin curiously.
"I don't think we have time to renovate the city. It's best to focus on what we can use and strategize around what we have and what we know." They'd be coming from the sky anyway, walls can only do so much.
no subject
"I agree," she said. "I've had a few ideas. Their Magitek Armor could be slowed down. If we dug some deep trenches in the countryside leading up to the city, they'll have trouble traversing it quickly."
She looked up. She didn't have an idea for those airships, yet, though.

"I think their goal might be the heroes of light. Which is why they are by passing Esdham. If that's the case then no matter where we go, we aren't safe." It was logical and it worried her.
Zelda didn't think that a trench would help. At least nothing that they could construct in two months.

They both saw it, she imagined. It made it clear that the Empress intended to fight them -- that she intended to face off against them. Perhaps this invasion was solely because of that. If it were true, it bothered her. This Kalki was willing to inflict incredible suffering all to get to them.
"Then we'll need to prepare to defeat them," she said. "But more than that, we'll need to be prepared to defeat her."
no subject
She paused thinking it over in her head.
"I also worry... because the Empire knows how to kill the heroes. This hasn't happened before. We always came back. I don't want anyone to die but there are so many reckless heroes. I just want everyone to be safe. I want to protect everyone."
no subject
She heard this, too, though, about the weapons that could kill a Hero. She turned to look at Zelda and considered that for a moment longer. She wished she knew what those weapons might be -- what the danger, exactly, might be. It would tell her what she needed to watch for and prepare for.
But she couldn't make that information simply appear.
"We'll have to be on guard," she said. "And tell everyone else to do the same. It's a real risk. Hopefully... we can impress on the others the need to take that risk seriously."

She pressed the towel against her face before meeting Robin's stare. "Yes, I hope that many choose to leave but for those who stay... we might end up facing our death."
Zelda was prepared for it but she didn't want others too have to give their lives. She had considered her life forfeit the moment she had been kidnapped from Skyloft. "We might be able to find a way to shield ourselves from it. I was thinking of asking others who know more about armor and shields. If I find anything I will let you know."
no subject
"We'll have to do the best we can," she said. "I think if we remind the Heroes why they're here, it will help. We want to defend Aqures Ixen -- our home, at least for now -- and not exact vengeance. We should let the quality of our defense be our revenge."
no subject
"We can hope and aim for the best. We can do everything that is within our power." She shook her head slowly. "There are some heroes who aren't used to fighting or war. We shouldn't force them. All our worlds are different and we all have different strengths."
Some of the heroes were children and she didn't want them to face the horrors of war.
no subject
To say nothing of the children. Her heart sank when she thought of them. The Crystals had strange choices in who they brought over.
"We'll make the best of thoee strengths," she concluded.

“They can cause more people to get hurt. I won’t allow that sort of foolishness. It might not be safe for any of us but those who are capable should stay.” She knew of a few who were leaving because they weren’t used to fighting but there were a few she knew that weren’t; which meant that others will be distracted and that wasn’t a helpful thought.
She knew it was selfish because she had already decided to stay but not everyone should.

She knew perfectly well how soldiers could be. Sometimes, they didn't listen. She sighed and then looked up at the sky thoughtfully. She blinked in the sunlight a couple of times; her lips pursed, as she did.
"Sometimes, waiting for the battle to come is the hardest part."
no subject
It wasn’t safe and it wasn’t logical.
“There is a least a lot to do to prepare. We won’t have much down time now.” There really was so much to do and at times Zelda wasn’t even sure where to start.
