( the battles of the days just passed had been long and hard-fought... but all the same, since she had taken her stand at the hospital yuna's resolve hadn't once wavered. even here, so close to the woman that had caused them all so much grief, she stood tall, burning a hole though the woman's back with her mismatched gaze.

[Kalki smiled upon hearing Yuna's words and nodded.]

I always hold my promises. You, better than any other Hero, should know that.

( that was an uncomfortable reassurance... ) I don't understand you!

( her brow furrowed, and one foot slid in front of the other in her half-approach -- ) You were once a Hero of Light too, weren't you? Didn't you, too, fight for this world and the people that live here?

I did. And I still do.

[She paused.]

However, not all fights take the same form.

[grandsummon]

( a fist by her side squeezed harder -- ) And all of those things you did to us? Luffy -- Yuffie... ( a breath -- ) and Rikku... are you just going to call that another form your fight takes!

( yuna looked down, composing herself just enough to go on... ) I saw him -- when we experienced the memories of the heroes from more than a thousand years ago. Garland. What... is he to you, now? What are you planning?

Indeed. Knowing exactly how the cycle works is necessary for the plan to succeed.

[She turned back and looked at the crystal.]

Garland is the guardian. The one you saw is an earlier incarnation of the man who lives today. he is both a friend and an enemy. As for what he is planning, I am sure you already know.

( she shook her head -- disbelieving in the words she was hearing. there was no way she would ever accept that treating people like that was necessary...

but there was something else bothering her... ) A guardian... what exactly does that mean? Who -- or what is he protecting?
