Terra could feel the tension rise and flux as her fingertips lightly pressed against the woven fabric of his sweater. She didn’t know what to do and in a frantic effort to think her mind blanked. She stared up at Sephiroth as he fought to control himself and then failed to do so. Her eyes widened as he turned towards her, tears and pain reflected in his once bright gaze. She felt something in her chest break and reform as it reached out towards the wounded heart in front of her.
She didn’t know what possessed her to move, or what willed her to act. There were no thoughts going through her mind, no worry or questions. She merely moved, her arms reaching around him and pulling herself against him. Her eyes closed as if knowing he wouldn’t want her to see him in this state while her head rested against his chest as she held him close. Her hand remains on his arm for a second before sliding down to his hand.
It was instinct that pulled her close, her heart reaching out to his as if to act like a shield against the things that threatened him. She’d stay by his side; it was something that she promised silently to herself long ago and she hoped that he might believe it now.
“Let me be your strength.”
The words were soft, spoken with a confidence that Terra didn’t often show. She would hold him up if he felt weak just as he had done for her countless times before. He didn’t have to be alone with his worries or fears. He wouldn’t have to be alone ever again.
