Fai was use to them meeting up every now and again when they weren't too busy with other things, even more so since they started dating he found, but somehow he wasn't use to having to go over Yuna's as it wasn't that often and only then it was maybe to stay over for the night, but that was it.

So with him puzzling over what could be the reason this time, he found himself at the door. He paused for a moment realizing he must have walked faster than he first though. His hand slowly reached out to knock on the door before all he had left to do was wait.

Yuna jumped at the sound of the knock. She quickly hid the popper and walked towards the door. She looked a little nervous as she opened it but there was a familiar smile on her lips as she invited him inside.

"Just head down stairs."

He knew where her room was and so she trusted he could get there without assistance. She carefully closed the door and then ran to catch up to him. Her steps were just behind him as he walked, her fingers reaching into her pocket and playing with the little popper.

He always found he would smile when she was around and it was the same when she answered the door and he stepped in. "Fine, but can I ask the reason for calling me over?"

She didn't say and that still had time wondering why, usually she gave a simple reason. Though he figured he could have imagined it, but never the less he heads towards the stairs that lead to the basement and to the place he knew well enough by now.

However as he got to the bottom, he was more than a little puzzled. Now what on earth was going on? Turning his head he looked at her. "What is this?"

"I was told that this is something that you do for someone you care about." She paused feeling a little embarrassed that she just said that out loud. "I mean... Celes told me about it and... I hope you like it."

She followed him to the stairs and then down into the room. She paused only once to close the door behind her. Celes had gone out with no plans to return any time soon. Once they reached the bottom of the stairs Yuna pulled out the popper and let the loud noise echo through the quiet room.

She tried to smile but she was a little nervous. "It's a birthday party."

"For you."

A birthday party? He didn't really pay attention to things like that, mostly because he couldn't know his exact age and mostly because he didn't see the point. Sure others can have a birthday and he would be happy to celebrate it, but with him it had always been a different matter; except of course for those he cared about. He was sure he didn't mind that as much.

As the streamers from the popper landed on his head, he couldn't help but give a small smile which turned into a light chuckle. He could see she was trying to be nice, but it did make him realized quickly she had read his file, but... he didn't mind if she had.

Taking a couple of steps forward, arms outstretched and wrapped them around her torso, kissing her a lightly peck on the lips before holding her close to him. "Thank you, though you do realize I know you mustv of read my file. But... I don't mind since it was you."

Yuna wasn’t sure of her exact birthday; to be able to celebrate Fai’s made her happy. Of course how she came upon this information was easily discovered and his blunt accusation caused her cheeks to color. She hadn’t intended to look at his file but it just happened and while she quickly stopped herself she had still read a fair amount about Fai’s past.

Her smile was small and nervous as his arms pulled her close. He didn’t sound upset and for that much she was glad. Mismatched eyes looked up at him as his lips lightly whispered against her own. Her heart fluttered and for a moment she was at a loss for words. Her palms rested on his chest, the reminisce of the plastic popper discarded to the floor.

“You aren’t upset with me?”

"I should be honestly, but...Since only those who I care about most knew about my past, I can't see why you shouldn't." The only one who wouldn't know for reasons was Sakura and that was for reasons. Placing his chin, lightly on top her her head ever so lightly if only for a moment before moving his head once more to look at her.

"After all you are important to me. Special."

Yuna had no response to him. Her eyes focused on his chest feeling the weight of his chin on her head. It was comforting being close like this and it only ever took the smallest touches. Her gaze traveled up the curve of his neck, along his jaw and then fixed on his gaze.

"I'm sorry I looked without asking.." She should have just asked him. Since he seemed willing enough to forgive her. "I made a cake! I'm not sure what people do on birthdays and I don't have a present."

Celes gave her a lot of information in a short period of time about Birthdays on Crystallis.

"As I said it's fine." As he spoke he moved to let go as she mentioned a cake, he could see it from here and he couldn't help but want to take a closer look at it.

"It looks nice, you did a good job. Though as for birthdays, I think you being around is enough of a present for me." He didn't really mind after all since he didn't mind about his birthday before either.

"Though I will admit, I don't know a lot either, so we can be about as clueless as each other."

Yuna turned to face the cake. She's a little nervous considering making cakes is Fai's job and he's very skilled at it. This cake was a simple vanilla cake with white icing and strawberries.

She laughed softly, moving to stand next to him. "I was told we light candles and you get to make a wish and blow them out." And he'll notice candles and matches ready though they aren't exactly birthday candles. It was what Yuna had.

"Do you have a wish?"

He shook his head slightly before moving to kneel down. "Nothing that comes to mind." He didn't think much about wishes either because he knew the odds of certain things coming true were not that high. But as he looked to the cake before him, he started to wonder if he could just come up with something and make her happy, but what?

It was quite hard to do. "If you had a wish, what would yours be?" It distracted her enough for him to have a little more time to ponder at least.

Yuna was a little surprised by the question. She thought about it for a long moment letting silence settle over them as the wheels in her head turned. “Um…”

Anything that she’d want to wish for sounded a little silly in her head. “I would wish to be happy or maybe wish that I can fly.” She had wings once though it had been for a very short period of time. She didn’t know how it happened but it was an amazing feeling, she wished that she’s be able to feel that again.

"Ah, flying is pretty fun isn't it?" He remembered that feeling well, but that was in part to his lovely Kudan, whom he wondered if he ever went back would join him again, he assumed that would be the case at least.

"I don't think I would wish for it myself... I was hoping it would help me think of something, but so far...I don't know." It was really a tough thing to think about as he stared deeply at the strawberries as if they could distract him for long enough, but it didn't. He wondered if his wish could be top keep his friends far away from here? Or maybe it could be something else.

After all he knew something she might not and that thought alone was enough to upset him, but he refused to show it. "This...might seem an odd question but... What are your plans for the future? If we managed to fix everything and we get the chance to go home then what will you do? If we are stuck here as well? I guess I am just a curious person who wants to know."

Yuna flushed realizing how selfish her wish had been, she had lived so long for others that she’s only sought her own freedom since. The world, everyone in Spira, whenever something was about to happen they would turn to her before trying to solve the problem on their own.

She let out a heavy sigh, trying to shake the feeling away. She’s about to suggest a few things he could wish for when his next question catches her off guard. It wasn’t something she had to think about because she’s spent countless nights wondering the same thing. Yuna walked around him and sat on the bed, watching the fire flicker as the wax slowly dripped down its side.

“I don’t know… I don’t think I can go home. I’ve told you that I was somewhere else before here, well. It’s been so long since I was in Spira. I don’t belong there anymore. There are others there and the world is working towards its future. If we are stuck here I’ll create a new life, it’ll be hard but there is nothing stopping me from trying my best. If I end up somewhere else… I’ll do the same. It might be silly but I think there is something more for me to do than just go home.” She looked up at him with a soft smile, giving a voice to thoughts that have been fluttering around her head for some time.

He could understand not feeling like you can go home, he probably got it more than anyone here could. After all he didn't have a home to go back to even if he wanted to. He had no home and so he kept travelling, but that little thought kept going to the back of his mind.

However he couldn't help but smile slightly, it did give him some idea of what his wish might be and with that thought he kissed him on the cheek lightly "That helped me a lot, I think I know what my wish might be now." he finished with a slightly chuckle before he looked down at the burning candles watching the wax for a brief moment before he blew them out, the wish always still in his mind. He just hoped he could find a way to make it come true.

"Well that was certainly fun, I just hope my wish will come true someday."

Yuna just watched as he leaned over and blew out the candles. She couldn't help but be curious as to what this wish was. She leaned forward, her eyes curious.

"What did you wish for?"

She really wanted to know, besides, if she knew she might be able to help it come true.

He had already moved to stand up again before looking over at her. He hadn't planned on telling her what his wish was because then it might not come true.

"It's a secret, besides it will be a while before I can see if it comes true or not." At least until the world was safe and sound at least then he could move on. It would only been then he could find out.

"Until then, what shall we do next?"

Yuna pouted, her lower lip protruding slightly as she looked up at Fai. She didn't like not knowing stuff, of course her curiosity usually gets her into more trouble.

"Promise to tell me after it comes true?" She didn't care how long it would take because she really wanted to know.

As for what to do next, well, Yuna hadn't thought that far ahead. They could get something to eat, they have to eat cake but Yuna didn't have a present for Fai and wasn't sure what to get him.

"I will do, I promise." And that was mostly because it involved her, but never the less he knew it would be a while and she would forget sooner or later, most likely later.

Fai was back to take the candle out one at a time carefully, making sure that no wax ended up on the cake before he turned his head with a smile.

"I think I'll try this cake and see what it is like. Do you have a knife or something down here?"

Yuna didn’t have plans to forget, there was very little that she forgot but then, with time, memories could easily slip away. She took promises very seriously nonetheless and she hoped that Fai might one day tell her. She stared at him for a long moment before softly sighing.

“There is one in the far cabinet.” She was very self-sufficient downstairs. Her room didn’t have everything but it had everything that she used on a regular basis including some kitchen ware and a sink where she often does dishes.

“I really do hope you like it.”

Dating someone who owned and worked in a café made making cakes difficult. Yuna didn’t make anything fancy, the cake was a light sponge cake with white frosting and strawberry’s, of course it’s probably fair from perfect and while it might taste good it doesn’t look as pretty as any of Fai’s cakes.

Fai didn't go that far when it came to the room he did. After all why add those things when you have your own in the actual house. It helped that most of the time everyone seemed to busy to stay for long periods him included.

"Since it was made by you, then I know I will love it." He had gone to where she said the knife was and picked it up, being careful as he went to place it down next to the cake before he wondered to go grab some plates.

He’d have to run upstairs to grab plates normally but Celes had left two plates on the counter for them as if expecting Yuna’s over sight. For all her efforts, Yuna was very nervous. She like baking and grilling which she used to do in Ruby City but baking a birthday cake… this was a first for her.

Fai really was the start of many firsts.

“You should really try it before you say that.” Yuna stood, deciding to lend a hand. Mostly she was to antsy to just sit and watch Fai do everything. She walked over to the plates and then grabbed the two forks that were hidden behind them. She walked over to the cake and then looked over at the knife which was still in Fai’s hand.

“It’s your Birthday. I’ll cut, you sit and relax.” They still hadn’t talk about how she knew it was his Birthday but really she was fine skipping over that part. It was so sad and she just wanted Fai to be happy now.

He knew she would say that, but no matter what he still didn't consider it his birthday, if mostly because after so long in that place he kind of forgot about it. But now he figured it was going to be a thing and he would have to get use to it.

"I'll try to, but I'm too use to having to do things." he had managed to put the knife down at least and moved away to let her do what she wanted to and instead sat on the edge of the bed.

"As for try it before I say that, I'm just that confident that it will be fine."

Yuna watched him sit with a smile. She was glad that he was trying to relax, she’s noticed, even when they are relaxing that Fai was often doing something else at the same time. Whether it was a task or just thinking, there was always something to occupy him.

She carefully cut into the cake, her attention pulling away from Fai for the task. She had done this more than a few times and so the icing stays in place as she lifts the first slice onto a plate. Before cutting her own she passes the plate to Fai, with a fork resting on the plate’s side. Then she begins to cut her own piece, this one a little smaller, she wasn’t used to eating a lot of sweets.

With the pieces cut she takes a seat next to Fai, her hips brushing up against his as she prepares to take a bite.

“I want you to be completely honest.” And with that warning she watches him taste her cake. This really wasn’t something to be nervous about and yet Yuna managed to do just that. She discretely crewed on the inside of her lip as the tension in her shoulders tightened.

He took the plate with a gentle smile, as he continued to watch her cut her own slice. He waited until she had sorted hers and sat down before he finally picked up the fork and takes a small piece of the cake, both the cake itself and the icing.

Holding it up he studied to for a brief moment before putting the fork in his mouth. He kept quiet letting the taste settle in before swallowing and then speaking up again. "ell now I can be honest, it is nice. Could be a tiny bit better, but in all honesty it's actually pretty good."

"Really?"

Yuna was glad that he didn't just say that it was good. She wanted him to tell her what was wrong with the cake because she knew that it wasn't perfect. She baked from time to time at home but it wasn't anything like that Fai did. It made her smile, if only because he was honest with her.

"I'm glad it isn't too bad."

She took a bite of her own cake and then smiled at the sweetness that filled her mouth.

He left the fork in his mouth for a brief moment before he pulled it out to take another piece. It was good, but he couldn't quite put his finger on how he would improve it himself personally. Even though he could cook, sometimes it wasn't easy to think of improvements.

After taking another bite he placed the plate down at least for a moment, fork and all. "You know...I guess I should really put this off, but how did you know when my birthday was? I don't even remember."

Yuna's lips parted and then promptly closed again. "I looked at your file." She stopped eating, her eyes studying her cake before she set the plate down.

"I'm sorry."

She hadn't read all of it, only the beginning and that was enough for her to stop. She hadn't wanted to dive into Fai's life like that. She had first thought to find out his Birthday, to do this. It had been Celes's idea but then she heard rumors from the other moogles and she found her eyes wandering down the page.

Her own file had been locked but not because of Fai. It had been because of her other self. Fai could read it, if he wanted to but she didn't feel like that was comparable.

He had stayed quiet, letting her words sink in. So she had done what he figured she had and deep down he knew he should really be mad and he was to an extent, but yet at the same time... As far as he was aware being in this type of relationship one should be at least open. With his plate now at the side, he started to play with his hands quietly, trying to think of the right words to say.

"How... far exactly did you read?" He needed to know exactly so that they could talk about it and hopefully be open and honest.

Yuna's fingers laced and then unlaced as she thought. She wasn't able to pinpoint an exact time so she just recited what she knew.

"I started from your birth, to get your birthday and I stopped after..." She paused, shifting her weight on the bed. "It was after the tower." He had finally been freed and even just saying the words drove a dagger through her heart.

He expected some of his past to be read, but that was less than what exactly he thought really. He couldn't really blame her for not going further either way really.

"Makes sense you didn't go further..." It only got worse from there if he had to be honest with him. But he couldn't blame her from doing what she did.

"I'm maybe a little bit mad I wasn't told before, but I'm not angry if that helps."

It didn't really help all that much. She had a feeling that Fai wouldn't be angry however, she was upset with herself. She had always been curious, at least after their fight with Sin, but she's never let it get this out of hand. Bit by bit she's realizing how much she has changed and she couldn't say if she liked it or not.

"That doesn't make it right."

She looked over at Fai, her expression sad but strong. "If you had wanted me to know then you would have told me or I should have asked first. I didn't..." She took a deep breath before looking away again.

"I didn't know what you've been through. I'm so sorry Fai."

"Well it was something I was going to say eventually when I understood things a little better." Sure he was a little angry, but he wasn't planning on making it obvious as his eyes looked forward, right now maybe not looking right at her might help.

"Though I will accept your apology, but at least it wasn't anything else or else I might actually have been mad." But it wasn't the time for being angry at least in his mind, they were here for a reason after all.

"Anyway, let's get back to the positive, shall we~?"

“Can we do that? Just be positive?”

She had to ask because that didn’t seem likely. She had wanted to earn his trust and she felt with that single moment that she’s lost it. She didn’t want to hide anything from him and she didn’t want to pry but there were things that worried her. She was worried for him, even though she knew that there was no possible way to help.

As he looked away, she did the same, her eyes land on a spot on the bed, looking at the pattern and then to her hand. Her fingers were curled into the bed spread and she began focusing on relaxing. It was hard but she was practiced at smiling, if that’s what he wants, she can smile.

Yuna took a deep breath and then exhaled. Then she was smiling though it was hardly the happy smile that Fai might be used too.

It didn't him long to look over to her and even less time to know a somewhat forced some when he sees it, after all he managed to pull those off for years.

"We can't if you force yourself like that. I can tell when it's genuine or not. After all I was the master at faking happy." It was why he wasn't smiling right now, he just didn't feel like it, however he knew if they moved off the subject it would get better with time.

"Just move on and do something else then you'll feel better."

"Alright."

She nodded in agreement but it was easier said than done. She thought about it for a long moment before her eyes closed slightly and she leaned back on the bed. "In that case."

One eye peeked over to look at him, the pupil surrounded by light blue hues. "What do you want for your birthday. Name anything and I'll get you that."

"I don't think I want anything." He wasn't all that picky as he moved to lie down next to her. In his mind all he cares about is the people who were here currently.

"Besides I have all I want anyway."

“Oh?”

Yuna scoots a little closer, completely forgetting about the cake and the birthday celebration. She just liked being close to Fai and right now he was really close. She rested her chin on his shoulder with a warm smile pulled across her lips.

“What’s that?”

"I'm surprised you even ask." He said with a slight chuckle escaping from his lips as he looked over to her.

"Just you being here is enough for me. Though the only other things I would want would only happen by luck."

Yuna didn't need to ask but it's one of those things that's always nice to hear. Her smile widens while her eyes stay locked with his.

"What lucky things then?" She had been able to give him her own company which she hopes counts for something.

"My friends, those I travelled with to be here. I mean I want it, but it's better they keep travelling and I always make sure to remind myself of that." He just hoped they were doing okay and if they had moved worlds... considering how long he had been here he would have been surprised if they still were.

Yuna's gaze and smile softened.

"I'm sure they are thinking of you too." Her hand reached out to take his with a warm smile. It didn't really occur to her that they were lying on her bed or that the cake was just sitting out. This felt nice, just being together.

She let her head nuzzle against his shoulder before releasing a soft sigh.

He smiled back softly before gripping her hand. He had forgotten what he had been here for originally, not that he minded all that much, even if it was another day he wouldn't have cared. So long as she was around it was fine.

It was only a few minutes before he even remembered it was for a reason as he shifted his weight to sit down, letting go of her hand as he did. "You know we are here for a reason, but I guess just doing this is fine, right?"

Yuna laughed softly, shifting to sit next to him. “I think being close is a good birthday present. Don’t you?” It sounded like an excuse but she liked feeling close to him, falling asleep when he was near or just being in the same room. It was a warm comfort and one that she treasured.

“Unless there is something else you want to do. You’re the birthday boy.”

"I don't think there is anything else to do. At least for me." He said rather enjoying the closeness. He didn't want to end it for tonight, but he figured that maybe he would need to soon.

"Though if I stay I'll have to sleep on the floor."

“Why?”

Yuna looked at him curiously, it wasn’t as if their relationship was very intimate yet but they could kiss, hold hands and lay together just to feel close to the other. She sees no reason why they can’t sleep on her bed together. They’d be able to fall asleep holding each other and then wake up in each other’s arms.

It would be a little tight but they could both easily fit on Yuna’s bed.

“Just sleep here.”

She wrapped her arms around his waist pulling him into a hug while letting her head rest on his shoulder.

"If that is what you want." Was all he could say really as he wrapped his arms around her. He would be fine like this, even if they were a little tight when it came to room. Kissing the top of her head for a moment, he really was more than fine with this.

"This is nice. Being this close."

Yuna smiled as his breath and lips caressed the top of her head. This was nice, simple and even though there was cake and streamers this was what made this moment perfect. She snuggled against him and after a moment felt her eyelids grow heavy.

“I think so too.”

Her voice was soft almost dreamy as her arms wrapped around his waist. The pads of her fingers lightly played with his shirt before they too stilled.
