Rukia - OPEN

[personal profile] damn_juicebox 2015-10-28 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Rukia had planned to spend the morning training for what was surely to come. She would practice her spells, sharpen her swordplay, and face the enemy fresh and prepared.

Instead she spent the whole morning and afternoon chasing after the sudden deluge of ghosts that had poured into the streets. What in the world was causing them to appear in such large numbers? It bothered her, as much as the rogue Reaper had bothered her. She'd asked around about the previous year's events, and knew that the Crystal of Fire had been targeted before. Assuming they were dealing with a similar force with similar purposes based on timing alone, would they go after the Crystal again?

She waited near the door of the observatory as dusk fell. Her arms were folded as she leaned against the wall, far more tense than the calm frown implied. She wanted to see how many others planned to show up for this. If there were more than enough, then she wanted to position herself closer to the Crystal of Fire to ensure its protection. But if numbers were short, she'd stand with them when their foe arrived.

Had he not been disillusioned to his first assumptions about this world already, all the spirits would have failed to make him think otherwise. Yet with all the paranormal activity going on lately, he couldn't help but wonder if they would start haunting in higher numbers near where the Crystal while the others were busy dealing with that letter.

He'd seen that happen far too many times to not be cautious.

Arriving near dusk, he scanned around to see if anyone he recognized had the same idea. He was almost relieved to see Rukia, even if they didn't know each other well. Ira changed directions slightly, walking toward her with a wave.

"Thought the same thing too, huh." It wasn't much of a question as he glanced toward the red crystal that still gave off a light even as the sun faded beyond the horizon. Just confirmation that they both weren't alone in wanting to be sure that this thing wasn't attacked.

"I can't deny the possibility," she remarked, her shoulders hitching with a small sigh. "But I am uncertain how many will report to the observatory. While I don't like the idea of concentrating all of our forces in one spot, it may be necessary if there aren't enough to take up arms."

Rukia's gaze went toward the crystal for a moment, lingering, before returning to Ira. "For now, I will wait to see where I am needed. What of yourself?"

Ira nodded, deciding to lean against the wall as well. "I thought the same thing."

Whenever those wannabe do-gooders had focused on one point instead of shoring up defenses, they always lost something defending another. Granted he hadn't been much better before, but he had at least some confidence in those who'd been here longer than they.

"Never was one to listen to the powers that be, but I can't just let someone toy with others," he replied with a shrug. "I figure it's better to let the more diplomatic handle whoever sent the letter than meddle until needed."

Rukia counted another Hero entering the building. That made nine so far. Six more, and she could consider the matter in good hands. There were only so many people who could fit in that observatory before friendly fire became inevitable.

"Somehow, I doubt the one who wrote the letter is open to diplomatic relations," she remarked with a frown. "I don't like it. If this really is the spot where they intend to appear, fighting space will be cramped. It would be an easy place to set a trap."

She was glad Ira seemed to be of a similar mind. She hadn't been part of this world all that long, so her line of thinking might be jaded or paranoid.

Still... "Even if they don't target the Crystal, it's good to have a few fighters close by to serve as back up." Especially if that five-minute Doom spell were to be cast again.

One more person inside, and he could have sworn he'd seen that warrior guy heading the same way as well at some point. So to his knowledge, there's at least two and a moogle present.

"Yeah," he admitted. It was highly unlikely whoever had sent the letter would be, yet that hadn't stopped countless others from trying to before. "Doubt they won't at least try to pry some information from them before the fighting starts, though."

And with two people with rather fast jobs equipped, they would likely be the first there to offer any sort of backup.

"So how many you figure are up there already?"

"More than enough at this point," Rukia decided, pushing a lock of black hair behind her ear as she straightened herself away from the wall. "It might become too crowded at this point. I'm concerned for the Crystal in any case, my strengths would be better spent there."

But she would keep a close eye on the observatory anyway, just in case it looked like things were getting too much for the others to bear.

"I think I'll go there now. You are welcome to join me, if you wish?"

you guys mind a straggler?

[personal profile] bright_and_blue 2015-10-29 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Heading to the Observatory was a somewhat tired-looking Graham, gripping his wrench tightly. He'd been attempting to battle ghosts all day, but without Ghostbuster equipped, fighting them has been a lot harder than expected. Spotting Rukia, Graham runs over to express his usual flurry of emotions.

"What's going on?! I thought the apocalypse we were supposed to be fighting was everyone being crystallized, not being overwhelmed and overtaken by the dead?! I've been fighting them off for hours, days, weeks, months, and it never ends! And now all the chaos has lead me here. What's going on up there?!"
acceptedoblivion: (down ♥ or just not enough)

not at all, here!

[personal profile] acceptedoblivion 2015-10-29 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Might as well-" he began, beginning to follow Rukia. After all he hadn't planned to go above himself unless he absolutely had to. At least until a sudden straggler approached Rukia.

"Some idiot bent on world destruction sent a letter and they're gathering on the top of the observatory to confront them." he stated dryly, despite not being the one addressed. "Starting to think this world isn't happy unless there's one of those types running around making a mess of things."
damn_juicebox: (Listening)

Bring it!

[personal profile] damn_juicebox 2015-10-29 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Rukia nodded to confirm Ira's statement. It was stated more simply than she would have done, which was probably for the best. "Last year, on the same day, the Crystal of Fire was targeted. We believe they may come for it again, so we're stationed here as a precaution. You're welcome to join us, if you wish." She knew Graham was strong, and incredibly tough. He'd be a welcome addition.

Even so...it seemed he'd been pushing himself the same way she had.

"You look tired," she said, her expression softening into concern. "Will you be all right?"

Graham had a tendency to blow through his energy fast since he arrived, still not quite accustomed on how to pace his Job skills. In response to Rukia's question, Graham hefts his big wrench over his shoulder, and gives her a thumbs up before confidently stating, "I'm exhausted!" But he shrugs, then begins to toss his wrench up and down as per his usual habit.

"These ghosts are anywhere and everywhere! It's never-ending. I think it must be everyone who's ever died in this world. They're not too keen on going back. Who would? I wouldn't. What if the afterlife here is boring, or terrible, and they would rather stay here? Is it right of us to send them back? Life is difficult enough, perhaps then the afterlife is even heavier. I tried asking one, but it attacked me instead. So I had to attack it back! And many many many many others. None of them wanted to talk!"

Too bad talking never seemed to exhaust Graham.
acceptedoblivion: (question ♥ that you can do)

[personal profile] acceptedoblivion 2015-10-30 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Wouldn't know if it means anything here, but the one I saw wasn't so great." He shrugged. "They didn't seem like much for conversation to find out."

Despite his nonchalance, he couldn't help but be concerned more from a tactical standpoint. If Graham faltered due to a lack of stamina at a crucial moment, he wouldn't be able to help him with his skills. "Sure you can handle yourself?"

Rukia glanced at the sky. It was difficult to estimate the time with the clouds blocking the moon and stars so thoroughly, but she knew they had at least a couple of hours before the designated meeting.

"We have time," she said, turning to lead the way toward the Fire Crystal. "You can probably take a short rest before anything crucial begins. I'll wake you."

She declined to comment on the afterlife, even though she had strong opinions on spirits lingering where they should not. The living had their place, and the dead had theirs. That was the end of it.

"Let's go."
