Rukia - OPEN
Instead she spent the whole morning and afternoon chasing after the sudden deluge of ghosts that had poured into the streets. What in the world was causing them to appear in such large numbers? It bothered her, as much as the rogue Reaper had bothered her. She'd asked around about the previous year's events, and knew that the Crystal of Fire had been targeted before. Assuming they were dealing with a similar force with similar purposes based on timing alone, would they go after the Crystal again?
She waited near the door of the observatory as dusk fell. Her arms were folded as she leaned against the wall, far more tense than the calm frown implied. She wanted to see how many others planned to show up for this. If there were more than enough, then she wanted to position herself closer to the Crystal of Fire to ensure its protection. But if numbers were short, she'd stand with them when their foe arrived.
Re: Rukia - OPEN
He'd seen that happen far too many times to not be cautious.
Arriving near dusk, he scanned around to see if anyone he recognized had the same idea. He was almost relieved to see Rukia, even if they didn't know each other well. Ira changed directions slightly, walking toward her with a wave.
"Thought the same thing too, huh." It wasn't much of a question as he glanced toward the red crystal that still gave off a light even as the sun faded beyond the horizon. Just confirmation that they both weren't alone in wanting to be sure that this thing wasn't attacked.
Re: Rukia - OPEN
Rukia's gaze went toward the crystal for a moment, lingering, before returning to Ira. "For now, I will wait to see where I am needed. What of yourself?"
Re: Rukia - OPEN
Whenever those wannabe do-gooders had focused on one point instead of shoring up defenses, they always lost something defending another. Granted he hadn't been much better before, but he had at least some confidence in those who'd been here longer than they.
"Never was one to listen to the powers that be, but I can't just let someone toy with others," he replied with a shrug. "I figure it's better to let the more diplomatic handle whoever sent the letter than meddle until needed."
Re: Rukia - OPEN
"Somehow, I doubt the one who wrote the letter is open to diplomatic relations," she remarked with a frown. "I don't like it. If this really is the spot where they intend to appear, fighting space will be cramped. It would be an easy place to set a trap."
She was glad Ira seemed to be of a similar mind. She hadn't been part of this world all that long, so her line of thinking might be jaded or paranoid.
Still... "Even if they don't target the Crystal, it's good to have a few fighters close by to serve as back up." Especially if that five-minute Doom spell were to be cast again.
Re: Rukia - OPEN
"Yeah," he admitted. It was highly unlikely whoever had sent the letter would be, yet that hadn't stopped countless others from trying to before. "Doubt they won't at least try to pry some information from them before the fighting starts, though."
And with two people with rather fast jobs equipped, they would likely be the first there to offer any sort of backup.
"So how many you figure are up there already?"
Re: Rukia - OPEN
But she would keep a close eye on the observatory anyway, just in case it looked like things were getting too much for the others to bear.
"I think I'll go there now. You are welcome to join me, if you wish?"
you guys mind a straggler?
"What's going on?! I thought the apocalypse we were supposed to be fighting was everyone being crystallized, not being overwhelmed and overtaken by the dead?! I've been fighting them off for hours, days, weeks, months, and it never ends! And now all the chaos has lead me here. What's going on up there?!"
not at all, here!
"Some idiot bent on world destruction sent a letter and they're gathering on the top of the observatory to confront them." he stated dryly, despite not being the one addressed. "Starting to think this world isn't happy unless there's one of those types running around making a mess of things."
Bring it!
Even so...it seemed he'd been pushing himself the same way she had.
"You look tired," she said, her expression softening into concern. "Will you be all right?"

"These ghosts are anywhere and everywhere! It's never-ending. I think it must be everyone who's ever died in this world. They're not too keen on going back. Who would? I wouldn't. What if the afterlife here is boring, or terrible, and they would rather stay here? Is it right of us to send them back? Life is difficult enough, perhaps then the afterlife is even heavier. I tried asking one, but it attacked me instead. So I had to attack it back! And many many many many others. None of them wanted to talk!"
Too bad talking never seemed to exhaust Graham.

Despite his nonchalance, he couldn't help but be concerned more from a tactical standpoint. If Graham faltered due to a lack of stamina at a crucial moment, he wouldn't be able to help him with his skills. "Sure you can handle yourself?"
no subject
"We have time," she said, turning to lead the way toward the Fire Crystal. "You can probably take a short rest before anything crucial begins. I'll wake you."
She declined to comment on the afterlife, even though she had strong opinions on spirits lingering where they should not. The living had their place, and the dead had theirs. That was the end of it.
"Let's go."
