Aerial Attack

[personal profile] umslay 2015-10-29 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
As the Heroes that remained behind fought valiantly against the Marshmallow Mog (or attempted to eat him, in some cases), a lone airship rose from the twelfth district. Ales manned the wheel, frantically shouting orders to the Heroes stationed either on deck or at the canons. His puppet is standing next to him, and as he could not afford to divert his attention away from steering, it did everything else: flipping switches, adjusting dials, and standing watch at the window. If anything, it would protect him from enemies that climbed on board, not that it was a possibility. One had to be careful of infiltrators no matter what.

The ship turned directly to the giant Moogle, its pure white body clear against the dark sky. Ales shivered from both the cold wind and the monster they were up against. There had been sentient confectionary in his world, most which would attempt to attack others, so he understood that they couldn't treat a giant marshmallow with any less seriousness than a flesh-and-blood enemy.

"Prepare the canons!" Ales shouted at those nearby.

"Aye captain!" Kidd was quick to move about the deck, doing whatever she could to help. Since much of the grunt work of the airships was below deck in the engine room as opposed to in the sails of a proper ship, she opted to remain where she'd be more of use.

She made a mental note to ask Ales about airship engines again sometime so she could learn more about them. For now cannons were the thing. Even if designs were different the basics were still the same. She ran among them, helping to ready them for the coming assault.

Just as the air ship was getting to the rooftops of the 12th District's buildings, there was a sudden thud on deck as Graham Specter lands less than gracefully. It's thanks to his Parkour ability that he made that jump at all, so sticking the landing wasn't necessary.

He runs up to Ales, a bundle of excited energy. Wrapped around him, shoulder to waist, is a very long length of thick rope that he holds on to with one arm.

"Ales! Ales, how close can you get me to that thing?! No, wait, how long do you think you can distract it with those cannons?!"

Zelda is flying over head on her loftwing when she spots the airship. She's using her scholar skill to try and gather as much information as possible about the lumbering moogle which has left her with only a few facts.

Her birds wings sends gusts over the airship she lands on the ship's deck.

"Ales!" She looked over at the captain with a serious expression. "It's made of sugar and it's undead. Use the ghostbusters that you have as well as anything that might work against sugar."

She had no idea how this made sense but she was going to inform everyone that she could.

Without taking his eyes off his planned trajectory, Ales listened to Zelda's report. Undead. If only he wasn't busy flying this this, he'd help out, unless he could program his puppet to fly the thing for him.

"I'll see to it that we fire something that'll work!" He shouted back at Zelda, then to Kidd: "Look for something strong against sugar: fire, possibly water will be safer!"

Just then, he felt something hit the deck, but thinking nothing of it - perhaps someone dropped a cannonball - he continued standing at post until Graham's voice popped up out of nowhere. He squeaked and jumped around. "Don't surprise me like that! I could have crashed this ship, then what?!" Dear Polokus, did this man have a brain?

Fah, they had someone new on board. The airship drifted left, and the puppet replaced Ales at the wheel. Graham was a person who required his full attention to comprehend.

"Five minutes is my estimate. I don't know how well regular canons will work against it. Why do you ask?"

Graham patted the rope around him. "Doesn't matter if they work, if they can just distract him! I can't hit him. I can't dismantle him. But I can knock it down! I'm going to go in low and trip him, but I need something up high to distract him. But if he sees me, I might end up suffocating on sugar! What a way to go! Though maybe I could chew my way out? What if we did that instead? Just unleash a pack of hungry kids on him and see what happens? They could just tear him apart at the ankles!"

Too many words at one time compound the stressful situation. Ales gripped his hat with both hands, waiting for it to all end. "Sounds like a good idea; I'll be shooting him anyway, and I doubt parents would let their kids out this late at night in this weather."

Eating him was a plausible, but unsustainable solution. They'd need a hundred people to effectively eat that monstrosity enough to weaken him. Or just Luffy. What was he up to anyway?

"Are you tying that rope by yourself? That giant will have to be distracted for a pretty long time if you're doing that."

Kidd nodded at Ales' order. "Can do. I'm using the Ghostbuster job right now so I can probably put some hurt on it as well." She chewed the idea over in her mind before running off to check the cargo. "What about alcohol. It might be dangerous but it could help the fire burn brighter." She knew water would make sugar dissolve but she wasn't sure how they'd fire it.

Hearing Graham's plan her eyebrow went up. It sounded like a job for an Assassin but she wasn't well equipped for it at the moment. But she had other ways to assist him.

"Mister Graham. Let me know before you try this. I'll use a spell to assist you." With that the pirate ran off to check belowdecks.

(ooc: since she's Ghost Buster/Time Mage right now, her outfit kinda looks like a black version of the jumpsuit but with an Assassin hood instead of an Organization XIII one)

Zelda's bird flapped it's wings impatiently. It wanted to get back into the sky and get Zelda away from the looming marshmallow moogle.

"I can help as well, just tell me where you need me." Her skills were all support but she had a bird which could be helpful in it's own way.

Graham, however, is an Assassin, and is good for this mission. But Ales had a point, doing it alone might not be fast enough. He hadn't considered that, and his expression falls.

"Ah, no, you're right! Someone should take care of the opposite side! But who? How?! Where's my gang in a time like this?! They should be here for things like this! Damnit!"

The Queen moved too and fro, readying the cannons. She planned to fly off and launch her own assault, but she would need the help of the cannons if she was going to avoid being splattered all over the city's rooftops.

When Graham arrived and start...talking, one supposes, Ashelia sighed in exasperation. This Graham seemed more tiring than Vaan - more tiring than Luffy, even. But his plan was worth trying. "I would offer to handle the other side, but without enough weight..." She looked over at Zelda. "Would your Loftwing be able to handle that?"

Zelda lightly patted her loftwings side with a smile.

"She should be able too." Her loftwing was strong and quick and while not as strong as Links it was still a bird to be reckoned with.

Ales watched his crew members as they planned together. "If you're thinking of going along with his idea, better get ready now." Moggle Mog's puffy face loomed ever closer. It was focused on reaching the Temple of Fire, perhaps it hadn't noticed the airship, but it would only be a manner of time before it did.

"I'll turning the ship behind it's head! Get ready!"

An idea strikes Graham, and he points dramatically at Zelda. "That's it! Your bird takes one end and I'll take the other. We'll go round and round and round and round until the thing can't move its feet! I'll meet you at the bottom!"

And with that, Graham takes a running start and launches himself off the airship towards the nearest rooftop. It's not exactly a short way down.

"Graham!"

Zelda tossed the rope up and her loftwing took it in it's beak as she jump on and after Garham. She didn't want him to hurt himself and with a quick click of her tongue they were off flying through the sky and currently after Graham to make sure that he was okay after jumping from the airship.

Moggle Mog had indeed paid little attention to the Airship, but couldn't ignore it any longer as the canons started firing. H didn't notice what Graham was up to, but soon diverted his attention away from Sephiroth and Jade who were at his feet, swinging his staff toward the airship, as if he were trying to get rid of an annoying Fly. Ales would have to be fast to save the Airship.

He did not go through airship training and fight in a war for nothing, Ales reminds himself when Moggle Mog raises his staff. Without warning the others on board, he spins the wheel as hard as he can.

"The altitude!" he yelled over the whistling of the wind, loud enough for his puppet to register the command and pull a single lever. The ship would raise into the sky while veering out of the swatting path, and with a winding trajectory, hopefully steer clear of the staff.

Ashelia had taken off with Zelda, flying lower with her until the Queen saw the moogle swinging for the airship. "Keep going!" She called out to her friend as she turned around and sped back towards the ship. She swung around, clenching and flexing her fists as she prepared an eidolon onslaught.

She flew around the moogle King's headlashing out with strikes and breathes of fire from Ifrit, the strong, sinewy limbs erupting from the portals mere inches from her hands. What resulted was a sort of dance - Ashelia dodging and weaving, flying to and fro, fire spewing forth from the magic circles as Ifrit's attacks connected.

Manning the cannons had kept Kidd from casting the Haste spell she wanted to use on Graham. From a porthole she watched as Zelda helped him to enact his plan. All she could do was put her faith in them.

Looking to the crew of the ship she began to bark her orders. "Set the canon shot to flame. Use whatever you have. It is more important we make this think burn than merely puncture its sides." The crew members looked a bit incredulous at the orders, but finally one decided they didn't have any other options and the rest followed suit.

Graham hits a nearby roof with a thud and a roll, and is back on his feet and jumping down as fast as he can. Sure it hurt, but that never bothered him much. And it looks like the moogle is successfully distracted.

He's fast, but obviously not as fast as Zelda's loftwing. He dashes to the nearer side of the moogle king's already damaged feet, holding the rope out. Confident that Zelda will take off the other direction around him, he'll keep running circles around the monstrosity, Shunshin activated, until he runs out of rope. Or so he's hoping.

Zelda's loftwing was fast and as Graham landed safely Zelda was already a ways around the lumbering moogle. Her eyes stayed on her friend though the large bird knew it's task. Her wings flapped and within less than a minute she was circling above Graham's head.

She didn't know how many passes to do so she'd fly until she ran out of rope.

The smile spreading over the Moogle's face turned into something far more terrifying as bits of his "flesh" melted under the fire attacks. It seemed to hurt, but it didn't seem to be about to kill him, only enrage him. He moved one of his massive hands in the path of the Loftwing, hoping to catch it.

For how huge it was, the moogle king wasn't blind and noticed the rope Graham running circle around him with his rope. With his feet damaged, the king was left with only one choice. Moggle Mog flapped his wing and started flying. While it wasn't an attack, his wings flapping were sure to create a burst of wind powerful enough to destabilized the airship and the Loftwing.

Then he moved his staff by the rope Graham was holding and swung it, hoping for the staff and rope to mingle. If it was to happen, he would try to swing it around-- And with it, Graham. This however, meant he didn't pay attention to the airship any more.

The wind hit the side of the ship full-force, tipping it over and knocking the puppet against the opposite wall. Ales grabbed onto the steering wheel for his life, dangling in mid-air while a foot scraped against the seat. The turbulence shook the ship, the buttons making a constant clacking sound as they vibrated in their loose holds.

He had to hold on, just enough until the ship tilted back to a manageable angle. But if Moggle Mog was going to keep on flying, this was to be an issue.

Please, he squeezed his eyes shut, feeling his hat fall off his head. just let this ship fly out of range. Once it did, he could gain control of it again and attack from afar.

Zelda felt her loftwing turn as the wind lifted him up and away from the large moogle. The young goddess fell forward on the bird, wrapping her arms around her friends neck as she steadied herself.

She let out a slow breath suddenly feeling scared. She didn't need to fall off her loftwing again. However now she's very high up and very far from the fight.

Ashelia gasped as the wind whipped up around her, but found it almost impossible to breathe back in again. She tumbled away, spinning through the air, unable to breathe until she got far enough away from the whirlwind.

She righted herself eventually, clutching at her chest as she sucked in great amounts of air, her lungs burning. Well. That is something to watch for. She flew back towards the King, though, undeterred - she wasn't planning on stopping until he was completely melted.
