Monster hunting

Summary: Monster catching silliness

{The monster arena sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun, so Bartz is excited to contribute. Over the next week, he can be found on the calm plains, monster catching equipment in hand. He set off to do this on his own, but he'd certainly welcome any help people wanted to give. Feel free to run into him wandering around, or even join him against...}

[A Buer perhaps? Actually it looks like he's got this one well in hand. The creature is angrily flapping around him, firing it's confusion beam, but can't seem to land a hit.

A few days later, he can be found fighting a Mandragora. Actually, it looks like he could use a hand against this one. It's horrible scream seems to be really throwing him off.

And someone should definitely warn him about that dancing frog he's looking at. There's no way he should be taking on a Touch Me solo at his level. Although it's entirely possible he just plans on watching a dancing amphibian because he's bored.

Or maybe you just want to congratulate him on capturing a Geezard? Or not. Because let's be real, anyone could catch one of those things. At any rate, he's caught one and is dragging it back to the monster arena.]

[And now it's time to try for the big game. After gathering a crack team of...... whoever happened to be around, Bartz and Allenby are prepared to take on the chocobo eater. When they track down the monster it has cornered a couple of chocobo, intending to make them into it's dinner.

Bartz is having none of that.]

Hey! Why don't you pick on someone your own size?

[Except it's larger than him. And so are the chocobos, honestly. Also what is stealth?]

Stealth is that thing that like, I dunno, ninjas use. And even while Allenby had that job, she was not very ninja-like! Rather she, and her Moogle Carol, are more than happy to face the monster head-on, already Carol prepping Allenby with a haste spell.

With the creature staring down the taunting Bartz, Allenby has a change to run over and just slut it right upside the head!

Yuna steadied her bow lighting the tip on fire as she aimed it at the chocobo eater. She was out of distance from the creature and possibly out of sight from those two fighting it since she was standing behind them. With a steady hand she released the arrow letting it fly through the air and hit the chocobo eater in the chest.

"Celes stay behind me." Her voice was calm as she began to slowly walk closer. Her bow still in hand as she pulled another arrow tight. "I'll back you guys up."

[Chiaki, meanwhile, is near the back of the group - just behind Yuna, white mage staff at the ready.]

I'll hold my action for healing or to capture it once it's weak enough. Be careful, everyone.

[It's dinner interrupted, the chocobo eater roars in frustration. It's strong resistance to physical attacks allows it to shrug off both the arrow and Allenby's strike. It swings one of it's long arms around to retaliate, aiming at Allenby who is closest.

They might need a new strategy.

Which won't be coming from Bartz, who jumps. Bringing his spear down on the monster in yet another physical attack. Which is clearly not doing as much damage as it should.]

Wow, this thing's hide is tough!

Allenby had been trying to do better to think on the fly, given the last time she just RUSHED into things and tried to work smart on the fly.

So instead, Allenby stands fast, looking ready to take any hit, preparing Boost and Counter to stack.

"Carol, do what you can for the others, but hit them with a bomb if you can! I'll try to keep it's attention on me. Bartz, you do the same, do what you can so that it hits ME instead of you!" she calls out.

"Yuna, Chiaki, if you can do anything real big and strong, now's the time!" She wasn't going to outright just CALL for magic, but, hopefully the other girls had some!

Yuna turned to Celes and gave the little moogle a nod. He began casting even though he didn't like being Yuna's "pet" it gave him some abilities to help out. Fire erupted from his little paws as Yune continued to aim her bow towards the monsters weak points.

They would keep up their efforts for as long as they could though Yuna suspected that Celes could only last so long.

"Right. Mogomi, help Celes, okay?"

With an enthusiastic nod, a twirl, and flourish, Chiaki's moogle springs into action, casting a Fira spell to stack with Celes' own. In the meantime, Chiaki prepares a Cura spell, sending the waves of healing energy washing down over Allenby to keep her in good health as she prepares to draw the monster's attack down on herself.

Bartz nods and flashes Allenby a grin. Hit her instead of him, huh? Yeah, he can do that.

"You got it!"

While the physical strikes seem ineffective, the fire magic has it shrieking in pain. Now in a rage, it surges forward, seeking a target. Bartz steps in front of Allenby and helpfully waves it over with a flourish of his spear.

"C'mon, ugly! Betcha can't catch me!"

It charges forward, prepared to chomp on him. Except just before it gets to him, he jumps over it's head, landing behind the monster. Now Allenby is in the line of fire. He... assumes she has a plan for this?

Allenby's stance was solid, and as it swings to hit Bartz, only to be baited properly, Allenby blocks the attack, stopping it dead after sliding along the ground a couple of feet.

The brawler rears a single fist back and lays it into it's arm, the strike rippling the air as force passes through the other side of it's arm. Even though she totally stood her ground, that's not saying shit didn't hurt. Good thing for friends backing her up this way!

"Keep it up!" Allenby feels like they're at a good pace, watching the monster reel from having, surely, a bone or whatever suffices for it's endoskeleton, broken. And as Allenby preps another Boost and Counter, Carol hurls a nice explodey package right into it's massive maw.

Yuna pulls back her bow focusing on the skill she had learned the month before. Light seeps from the bow and into the arrow as she released it from its hold. The shot zipped through the air hitting the beast as if it had been struck with a hammer. She pulled back readying the same heavy shot again hoping that it would help defeat the creature faster but she could feel her magic slipping away from her.

Celes kept casting for the time being. Fire erupting from his little moogle paws as he aimed at the might beast they sought to bring down.

Can you keep it up at this pace, Allenby?

[Chiaki just wants to be sure, even as she's casting another Cura spell on her ally.]

Mogomi, keep it up with the Fira spells.

[The little pink moogle nods, twirling around again and raising her hand in the air as yet another explosion of flame briefly engulfs the Chocobo Eater.]

The fire magic is still doing the most actual damage, but the Chocobo Eater certainly felt that strike on it's arm. Deciding to shift it's tactics the monster releases a blast of icy air in the form of a blizzard spell.

Bartz, meanwhile, is taking advantage of the fact that he's now behind the creature. He strikes it's back with his spear, trying to keep it off balance.

Well, sure as heck can't counter that, best she can do is put her arms up to defend her, but all the same, as long as she is it's main target, it keeps attention off the others.

Even with Chiaki's support, her "HP" is going down faster that it's being brought back up, which entirely works in favor of the gir. Surviving a beating now will help her take a harder beating later, and just making her more angry, building up to something she just might've not thought she could do without her Gundam.

Yuna wished that she could do more. Instead she kept firing her arrows filling them with magic until she ran out of energy.

Celes cast once more only to flutter down to the ground with little huffs of breath. "Take a break Celes. We can handle this." Yuna smiled down at Celes before aiming once more.

Is it weakening at all? I don't think we're going to be able to keep this up forever at this pace.

[Even so, Chiaki drops another Cura on Allenby, Mogomi following it up with another Fira before she, too, is spent.]

It is indeed weakening. The relentless assault on all sides has taken it's toll and those last two fire spells knock it right on it's back.

"Hey! Now's our chance!"

Bartz jumps, planning to bring the spear down right on the monster.

Allenby hastily runs over, no longer needing to play punching bag.

Jumping up on the creature's chest, Allenby swings a wrenching kick right up against it's jaw, after Carol drops another Mog Bomb into it's mouth! "KEYAAAAAAH!"

Yuna didn't let up her strikes. She tapped into what energy she had left strengthening her arrows and increasing her aim to hit the right space under its belly. She had fought this monster before and knew of its weakness to fire and its belly. She only hoped that this was enough to at least drive it back.

She wished she could reach her limit break but the creature has only been attacking Allenby because she was the only one close enough to receive its strikes.

Mogomi's too tired to keep going, so...

[Chiaki thinks for a moment before holding out a hand.]

Mech Gunner! I choose you! Cannon Shot!

[With a flash of light, the mechanical marvel appears in front of Chiaki, letting loose with a powerful attack at the prone target. Chiaki, for her part, keeps right on dropping cure spells on Allenby.]

The chocobo eater flails desperately under the relentless assault. It's in pretty rough shape. Hopefully someone remembers that they need to catch this thing alive. Those close to it have yet another problem to deal with as it suddenly spews a noxious gas from it's mouth.

Bartz pulls away as quickly as possible, coughing.

"Ugh, yuk! What is that stuff?"

He and anyone else who breathed that in won't be feeling too good.

Allenby just powered through it, enduring with the ick that it had spewed upon them. "Who cares! Let's go for it now!" she shouts through her coughing and invokes the power to capture the creature while it remained weakend and on it's back!

Yuna watched in dismay as the poison covered the ground in front of the warriors. "Bartz! Allenby!" She shouted but she knew her voice couldn't do much to help them now. She had some items with her she had bought with Celes for these hunts and she hoped it would be able to help.

She stepped forward aiming her arrow with a steady hand before letting it fly at the wounded creature. "It's weak on its back! Hit it hard!" She didn't know what its health was at but she wanted to end this fight quickly.

It's okay! We've got it!

[Chiaki joins Allenby at the front of the line, stopping just short of whatever the monster just spewed to support the capture attempt. And now that it's been sufficiently weakened and two Beastmasters are bringing their abilities to bear, the Chocobo Eater is successfully subdued and captured!]

Whew... we got it. Here, let me help with that poison.

[Now that they're out of combat, Chiaki just goes ahead and drops a few Esuna spells to relieve Bartz and Allenby from the effects of the noxious gas.]

[Bartz flashes Chiaki a grateful grin.]

[He sheathes his his spear and stretches.]

That was kinda fun. I bet the old guy'll be really happy about this.
