Monster hunting
Where: Calm Plains
When: February 3rd-7th
Summary: Monster catching silliness
Warnings: none
{The monster arena sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun, so Bartz is excited to contribute. Over the next week, he can be found on the calm plains, monster catching equipment in hand. He set off to do this on his own, but he'd certainly welcome any help people wanted to give. Feel free to run into him wandering around, or even join him against...}
[A Buer perhaps? Actually it looks like he's got this one well in hand. The creature is angrily flapping around him, firing it's confusion beam, but can't seem to land a hit.
A few days later, he can be found fighting a Mandragora. Actually, it looks like he could use a hand against this one. It's horrible scream seems to be really throwing him off.
And someone should definitely warn him about that dancing frog he's looking at. There's no way he should be taking on a Touch Me solo at his level. Although it's entirely possible he just plans on watching a dancing amphibian because he's bored.
Or maybe you just want to congratulate him on capturing a Geezard? Or not. Because let's be real, anyone could catch one of those things. At any rate, he's caught one and is dragging it back to the monster arena.]
Mandragora
She ran towards the shrieking cry of the creature surprised to find Bartz already there. She looked back at Celes trying to shout over the annoying screams. "Celes! Fire!" The little moogle casts burning the plants leaves but not killing it.
"Bartz! Are you alright?"
Yuna jogged up to his side watching the creature as it reels back to fight. She had run into these once before with others and was sure that they could handle it.

Bartz takes a few steps in her direction, shaking his head as if to clear out the ringing noise.
"For a little guy, that thing sure is loud. Can you distract it for a sec?"
Without waiting for an answer he jumps. The Dragoon class is sort of mixed bag. Jump is a great attack, but it does take a bit longer than a normal one. Meanwhile, the mandragora readies a poison attack.

The spell sent a wave of green mist over her and she decidedly pushed Celes from its path. She fell to her knee feeling the effects of the poison as her gun trained on the bouncing creature.

Bartz finally comes back down, directly on target, slamming the creature into the ground with the fore of his landing. The mandragora twitches several times, but is too injured to do much more. It looks like they caught this one.
"Heh, close one. I think we almost killed it..."
But he trails off as he notices her sickly pallor.
"Hey, are you okay? Did it get you with that poison stuff?"
no subject
Yuna would make it back to the town easily but without something she probably shouldn't fight. Celes went through his bag pulling out what she needed and handing it over to Yuna.

At least her moogle seems prepared. Bartz should probably think more about supplies when he goes adventuring. He offers a hand to help her to her feet.
"Anyway, we got him. Were you out looking for monsters for the old guy too?"
no subject
"That's right! I was hoping to catch monsters." She sounded excited enough though in truth she wasn't sure where to start. There were so many and she didn't even know all the kinds. She thought to ask Baralai but she felt a little awkward around the monk.

Touch Me
She walked with Tempest looking out for monsters as they explored the area together. Tempest brought all sorts of potions and items in case they ran into anything to nasty. After Terra wandering off on her own Tempest wanted to be prepared.
Terra stopped at the sight of Bartz and the strange dancing frog. She didn't recognize it but Tempest fluttered closer to Bartz with a frantic stare. "Get away. Kupo! He can turn you into a frog!"
no subject
Bartz seems surprised enough, but his moogle pipes up from behind a nearby rock where it was hiding with his chocobo.
'Fool! I tried to tell you that five minutes ago, kupo! If you'd ever actually LISTEN to me-'
But Bartz is already backing away, and answering Tempest. He's not ignoring Kuposthenes on purpose, he's just really distractable.
"I wasn't sure if he was a monster or just a really neat frog."
The 'really neat frog' seems to have noticed them now. It hops forward.
no subject
”Wait until it comes to us Kupo. It’s song can hit further than you can cast.”
Terra gave her moogle a nod bringing fire to her palm as she watched the little frog hop closer. She hoped that Bartz would be alright. She was slowly learning how distracted the hero could be.
no subject
"Hey! I think it's doing that thing you-"
Warned us about. But yeah, he doesn't even get to finish that sentence. Because he's a frog. This is not going well.

The song pressed against her ears making her stop in her tracks as she slowly began to change. She shivered as the cold that crept over her skin. She heard Tempest shout before turning to Bartz with a quiet ribbit. "W-what!"
no subject
"It got you too!"
Important information there. Bartz is a master of the obvious. He starts hopping over to her.
"What do we do?"
If she has no thoughts on the subject his idea is to run. Whatever they decide, they'd better do it quick. The Touch Me looks awfully smug.

Beur, and moving on to greater things!
"Well, I can certainly see a use for a few of those. Archers and stuff can certainly use them. Let's catch about 9 more, okay?" And she's totally treating it like it's super-simple. Even her Moogle, Carol, is in on the activities.
"But we need to get other things too. At least 10 goblins as well. Really a large number of these local creatures is going to help."
Excelsior!
He can't even hide his surprised confusion.
"That's... a lot. Do we really need that many? And a bunch of goblins too?"
Bartz has been thinking of this like a game. Catch one of everything, and get a prize. Getting duplicates hasn't even occurred to him.
Re: Excelsior!
"So, you fight one, right? That's not hard at all is it? Or a goblin. You kick it once, and it's done right? What about two? Not that hard, but then three, or four.." she goes on, nodding her head. "You see where I'm going with it?"
Re: Excelsior!
Yeah, he really doesn't have a clue where she's headed with this.
"I mean, I thought we were trying to catch one of everything..."
He's trying to imagine what you could do with ten goblins. Train them to do tricks and set up some kind of goblin stage show maybe?
Re: Excelsior!
If Bartz can't get it from that...
"Anyway, let's find some more. We'll work on more Beurs if we find them."
Which won't be too hard, here's two more coming!
Re: Excelsior!
He hadn't been thinking about what happened after the monsters were caught. It made sense that the old guy would need more than one. Now that he's on board, Bartz starts looking around for their next target.
"Hey! There's a couple more! Let's go get 'em!"
How lucky are they? More monsters! He turns to their new prey, flipping his spear around into an offensive position.

Chocobo Eater
Bartz is having none of that.]
Hey! Why don't you pick on someone your own size?
[Except it's larger than him. And so are the chocobos, honestly. Also what is stealth?]
Re: Chocobo Eater
With the creature staring down the taunting Bartz, Allenby has a change to run over and just slut it right upside the head!
Chocobo Eater
"Celes stay behind me." Her voice was calm as she began to slowly walk closer. Her bow still in hand as she pulled another arrow tight. "I'll back you guys up."
Re: Chocobo Eater
I'll hold my action for healing or to capture it once it's weak enough. Be careful, everyone.
Re: Chocobo Eater
They might need a new strategy.
Which won't be coming from Bartz, who jumps. Bringing his spear down on the monster in yet another physical attack. Which is clearly not doing as much damage as it should.]
Wow, this thing's hide is tough!
Re: Chocobo Eater
So instead, Allenby stands fast, looking ready to take any hit, preparing Boost and Counter to stack.
"Carol, do what you can for the others, but hit them with a bomb if you can! I'll try to keep it's attention on me. Bartz, you do the same, do what you can so that it hits ME instead of you!" she calls out.
"Yuna, Chiaki, if you can do anything real big and strong, now's the time!" She wasn't going to outright just CALL for magic, but, hopefully the other girls had some!
