Event || The New Year

Where: The Enterprise.
When: The Night from December 31st to January 1st.
Summary: A Ball aboard the Enterprise, for well-dressed (mostly) Heroes of Light and their friends who want to dance and (especially) eat for free.
Warning: Nothing.

While the passing from a year to another isn't as big of an event as the Starlight Celebration, it is no reason to pass up an ocasion to celebrate and have fun. There are fireworks in all major cities and various activities to enjoy. Noticeably, there are gatherings of people in Aqures Ixen and Trano Golsaucia in particular, if only to conclude what is one of the most celebrated week in the year, and wish to each other the best possible year to come-- Though most people are worried about what's to come soon. After all, the end might be nigh with the Calamity about to take over the planet...

To celebrate this, the Heroes of Light have all been invited to stay aboard the Enterprise for a particularly prestigious and animated Ball. Indeed, the Enterprise will from Aqures Ixen and go all the way to Mysidia at midnight-- This way, New Year is going to last even longer than normal thanks to the magic of timezones.

There are tables with foods for everyone to eat and of course, music for people to dance together if they so wish. There is also a consequent number of chairs lined up, for all those who refuse to dance or are too awkward to do so.

Food and company... [She lifts her glass with a smile before bringing it to her lips.] You could say I’m here for the same reason.

[Even though she isn’t a hero of light.]

What are you doing to do when we dock?

Oh, um... [He debated for a moment whether or not to answer honestly, and decided to try and gloss over it.]

Nothin' much, probably. What about you?

[Umiko shrugged.]

There is free booze here so I'll probably stay and see what's left after the party. [She smiles.]

You didn't answer my questions.

Now that's my kinda thinkin'.

[His grin slips, though, on being pressed on that issue.]

I ain't going anywhere. That's what I'm doing. Not leavin' the ship. Why?

[Umiko shrugs.]

I think a lot of people will be to drunk to leave the ship. It's a long night after all and bed sounds pretty great when the air in chilly.

[She's going to drink though she doesn't know how much yet. Her current glass is getting frightfully low.]

I guess that's true. I'll be in good company.

[Johnny had planned on drinking as much as could. He didn't have anywhere to be, so why not?]

So, don't think I ever got yer name. I'm Johnny.

Umiko.

[She smiles and then raises her glass and finishes it.]

It looks like I need more. Do you want anything?

[There is a promise to return but sadly there isn’t a bar outside of the hall where the ballroom has been placed. At least there isn’t a bar that Umiko knows about.]

[He gives her a grin before polishing off the rest of his beer quickly.]

Sure, since yer offering. Not like I got anywhere to be, right? Thanks.

[Umiko chuckles softly and then plucks his glass from his fingertips. With a twist of her hips she’s walking back towards the entrance to the ball. It only takes a few minutes for Umiko to slip in unnoticed, grab them each a drink and slip out again.

There are two glasses in her palms as she approaches holding out one for Johnny to take. She hums softly before letting her eyes land on Johnny’s features.]

Should we toast to something?

[He thanks her for the drink and thinks over an idea for a toast.]

I don't think we should make it too complicated, right? [He holds up his glass.] Here's to survivin' the next year.

[Umiko laughs.]

That's something I can drink too.

[She lightly clinks her glass against his and then takes a long sip of the alcohol. As always it tastes great.]

Next year... feels like things might be coming to an end.

[charming_jerk]

[Johnny has to stop mid-drink to answer that.]

No way. Don't say that. Don't say it like that, anyway. "Things might be comin' to an end" means we're gonna stop the Calamity. Ya got that?

[Umiko laughs softly looking over at Johnny.]

I’m not that depressing. I wouldn’t help if I didn’t think I could do something about it. I just meant that this year we’ll stop it.

[Her finger lightly traces around the rim of her glass before taking along deep sip.]

I don’t want that crystal to swallow more.

[Specifically anyone she knows.]

Me either. It's so close to wrecking a ton of stuff now. But if we get near it, they say it gets worse. So how're we supposed to figure this shit out?

[He huffs, wishing he were smart enough to help with this sort of stuff.]

[Umiko hums softly looking out at the skyline.]

I can get near it then.

[She brings her drink to her lips with a smile.]

I'm not one of the famous heroes of light after all.

[Johnny blinks in surprise. He totally didn't think of that.]

Hey, yer right. Consider yourself damn lucky about that, too. Do you think it's a good idea to try 'n get close to that thing?

[Umiko shrugs.]

It's only a bad idea if I fail or die.

[Since she won't come back.]

[charming_jerk]

[He has to laugh at that.]

Well yeah, but I think we can say that about most things. But I wouldn't wanna see ya get into a situation you can't get out of. Might be worth a shot, though. Something we can bring up to the group.

[Umiko hums softly.]

Let's do that then. Besides I wouldn't go alone, maybe Sephiroth can lend some of his people.

[She knows that he controls a few groups in the army.]

I'm thinking they'll say it's to dangerous though.

Askin' can't hurt. They probably will, but I'd like to see 'em come up with another plan then. Ain't like we've had too many.

[The Calamity's been dormant for months, and it was like everyone forgot it existed for awhile.]

[Umiko laughed at that, bringing her drink once more to her lips.]

That's true.

[She let out a soft sigh and then smiled.] I guess we should relax while we can then. Just for tonight.
