Event || The New Year

Characters: Anyone!
Where: The Enterprise.
When: The Night from December 31st to January 1st.
Summary: A Ball aboard the Enterprise, for well-dressed (mostly) Heroes of Light and their friends who want to dance and (especially) eat for free.
Warning: Nothing.

While the passing from a year to another isn't as big of an event as the Starlight Celebration, it is no reason to pass up an ocasion to celebrate and have fun. There are fireworks in all major cities and various activities to enjoy. Noticeably, there are gatherings of people in Aqures Ixen and Trano Golsaucia in particular, if only to conclude what is one of the most celebrated week in the year, and wish to each other the best possible year to come-- Though most people are worried about what's to come soon. After all, the end might be nigh with the Calamity about to take over the planet...

To celebrate this, the Heroes of Light have all been invited to stay aboard the Enterprise for a particularly prestigious and animated Ball. Indeed, the Enterprise will from Aqures Ixen and go all the way to Mysidia at midnight-- This way, New Year is going to last even longer than normal thanks to the magic of timezones.

There are tables with foods for everyone to eat and of course, music for people to dance together if they so wish. There is also a consequent number of chairs lined up, for all those who refuse to dance or are too awkward to do so.

She's not here, Saori thought to herself as she looked out towards the dancers. Given how huge it was, there was always a good chance they just happen to miss each other. Right? The train of thought came to a halt when she heard someone call to her.

"Ah good evening, Bar--Mr. Jiminy," Saori corrected herself when she looked at him. "I know that feeling too well. It's been a while since I joined a party where I didn't cook the food. Hell, I was only allowed to bake my wedding cake back home." She looked down at her glass a bit stupefied. What number glass was this and hopefully he didn't hear that last bit.

Fortunately for Saori, he had gotten to the point where his mind turned some phrases into a garbled mess. The important point: Saori also needed this party, and she wasn't drunk, according to the Barkeep's judgment.

"I Ain't no barkeep in this place, you're right about that," he said before taking a sip from the beer bottle in his hand. "Saori Nakagawa. Didja try dancin' yet? This party's not gonna last all night, despite what they've announced at the start." Oh, those young people at their boundless optimism.

Well, she wouldn't consider herself young since 98 was still old for a human even if it was young for a goddess. "I'm really not much of dancer really," Saori laughed sheepishly. "I'm all left feet when it comes to the dance floor and not even the Dancer job could save me. If Mary was around and I had another drink, maybe. Well, at least one of those is guaranteed."

She waved one of the workers over to pick up a fresh glass, which she offered up a toast to the Barkeep. "To another year and hopefully we'll kick this Calamity's ass seven ways to Sunday. Clink?"

"To another year!" He thrust his bottle at Saori's glass with a loud clink, thankfully not breaking it. It was a dull and unemotional sound: this clink clearly indicated that the feeling behind it needed work.

Not that the Barkeep cared. He had his beer and Saori was starting to behave like she was at a party. "No reason not to try dancin', Mary or not." He took another swig.

"...Who's Mary?" He hadn't been to the Christma...no, Starlight Celebration party, but he took a guess that she was one of those guests.

Saori took a long drink after the improvised toast.

"Uh, well," Saori remembered that one detail just a little too late.

And of course, it would be rude of her share the Asssassin's secret without permission. "She, uh, normally goes by an alias but I'm not sure if she'd like me to share that. Sorry." Her mind quickly raced to find a new topic to talk about. Hero stuff? No, lately that's been depressing.

"Oh, that does remind me, I should be able to help out more at the Space Saloon more since Christmas town's behind us now."

Mordecai's head tilted, but whether it was due to curiosity, drunkenness, or both wasn't clear. "Oh, so like a friend that's called by their title or somethin'?" Like himself. "Reckon she wouldn't have been invited iffen she weren't one of us Heroes."

Because obviously none of their numbers was named Mary and had an alternate identity. Yup. He took another swig from the bottle.

"Good. Great. It's been awful lonely, tendin' the saloon all month by myself. I'm lookin' forward to expandin' the place this year."
