Our time is waiting right outside your door
Characters: Genesis Rhapsodos and Angeal Hewley
Where: Her backyard
When: 11/15
Summary: After the fiasco of last month, Genesis feels now is a good time to talk. Over s'mores. Just like old times, eh?
Warning: None.
The fire crackled as Genesis held her marshmallow over the fire, waiting for it to get toasty in that golden brown way that she loved. She wasn't sure why she decided now was a good time to have a snack in the middle of the night over a fire, but she did and she brought Angeal along too. It helped that she was able to find the sugary confectionary, chocolate, and graham crackers in this place. Although it was obvious that no one ever tried combining the three.
But she remembered S'mores fondly from back in Banora, during her childhood with Angeal. This Angeal was not hers and perhaps she will always be reminded of this, but this Angeal obviously didn't discriminate and didn't care about her gender.
Genesis smiled as her marshmallow toasted, pulling it away from the fire to place on the chocolate and cracker Angeal held for her. He placed the second cracker on top and squished it down, allowing her to pull the skewer free. They traded then, the skewer for the S'more, it was his turn. They hadn't spoken much yet, the night silent. But she finally broke the silence as she bit into the campfire dessert and hummed in delight.
"It's been years."

They hadn't spoken much yet, the night silent. But she finally broke the silence as she bit into the campfire dessert and hummed in delight.
"It's been years."

Some things had changed between them with the memory of what he was like as Penance. He remembered everything and it hurt that he couldn't speak to tell her anything. With so many differences between them, some things remained the same. They were still human and they needed contact in order to survive. No matter how much once person said that they needed no one, it was a lie they often told themselves in order to cope.
It wasn't until she mentioned the word years that his mind moved back into reality. "It has. I remember times like these back home. Things were much more simpler back then." His brow creased in thought.

Genesis chewed thoughtfully, staring at Angeal as he said those words. She held the messy cookie delicately, but it didn't stop the marshmallow from getting onto her fingers and she held her out of the way a bit to keep it from accidentally getting caught in her hair or on her clothes. Still, she took another bite as she thought of her next words.
She shrugged a little, swallowing. "Everything is much simpler to a child."
Genesis huffed a soft laugh, looking down at the treat as she chewed off a bit of white gooeyness from her index finger, looking almost rueful. "But then you grow up and find out the world is a lot more gray than you ever imagined."
no subject
Dark blue eyes looked at his own gooey treat and wondered if anything would ever go back to the way it was but that was an impossibility in and of itself with no real method of reversal. It was more of a disappointment than duty had to offer. With his index and thumbs with both hands holding the graham cracker bases together, the moment he bit down, the marshmallow oozed out in a comical display of squish. His eyes widened just enough to show that he hadn't intended for the mess to happen but it did and he couldn't stop it.
It was an awkward feeling at best that he couldn't quite pin down but at least he was comfortable enough to know that she wasn't going to judge him for the mess.

This was the only treat she didn't mind getting her hands dirty for. She reached over to grab an extra graham and pushed it against the marshmallow that was oozing out. "There, now it won't get on your clothes."
It helped lighten the mood, at least. She hadn't wanted to spend this night reminiscing about times they would never get back. More like she wanted to think about her future, here and at home.
no subject
"Thanks. It's been a while since I had these. I didn't think to squish it first. You'd think I would have learned the first time."
no subject
Because they had already established that it had been years since they did this, after all. She began chewing the dried bits of marshmallow still left on her fingertips as she thought about why they were even out here.
"Angeal?" She started. "Do you remember everything from October?"
no subject
He didn't want to expand much since his own thoughts on the matter was equally just as confusing and he wasn't sure how to explain everything he felt. He took another bite of his smores to collect his thoughts. He wanted to tell her everything but it was getting his own emotions in line to know what he was feeling was real and not fabricated by some outside force.
He leaned back a bit and cast his gaze up to the stars. "It's a clear night. We should have some fair weather for tomorrow."
no subject
"Good," She nodded. "I'll need to go and get some winter clothes."
While she was okay for now, she had a decent cloak and even her SOLDIER coat. But she was never the best at handling the cold.

Mogington lifted his head just then without knowing what caused the subject matter to change but it was certainly better than dwelling on something they couldn't change. He piped in with a series of quick nods and hums to reiterate what Angeal had said.
"He can build a house with all that wood, kupo!"
no subject
Because that was a thing, right? She had hoped it was.
"Well, we do have more time on our hands these days, I'm not surprised."
no subject
He lowered his hand and nodded once. It was true that they had a lot of free time and honestly he was enjoying the time he had even if he was used to being busy. He managed to find something constructive to do with his time than to waste it lingering on about a past he cannot change.
"Regardless, I think we'll manage. We're adaptable."
no subject
"What do you do with your extra time?"
no subject
"Well, that depends on what you're looking for. I started working with wood lately and building shelves, cases and tables have left over wood that I use for carving. I'm not that good at carving yet, so I started to learn how with a master carver. It's been a challenge."
At least it was better than toiling away cooking things that might end up putting them in the hospital or unnecessary weight gain that he didn't want to deal with. At least he was doing something productive that everyone can use.
no subject
"Hm," was all she could say, looking down at the rest of her s'more, picking at it lightly. She didn't know what class she wanted to continue fighting as and she didn't have a goal for herself. Which was unusual, she usually knew what she wanted and now...
"I don't know what I want."
no subject
"Oh, I don't know about that. Usually, you're a bit more assertive. I'm sure you know, you just hadn't found it yet, or it hasn't presented itself to you yet. There is a great big world out there." He had thought of the times that he had thought about adventuring a bit himself just to see what was out there.
"Here's an idea. Why don't we take a trip when the thaw comes. I'll need to wait a bit anyway before I can plant anything again." At the very least, it showed that he still had that venturing spirit that he had in his younger years.
no subject
Still, what he said had merit. Perhaps she was looking too hard, too. She didn't want to wait for it to show up, of course. But that didn't mean she had to worry herself in looking. She was broken out of her thoughts when Angeal presented his idea.
"A trip where?"
no subject
"I was thinking anywhere with water. I've been in the mood to see the ocean. I'd ask Sepiroth or Genesis to come along but Sephiroth doesn't seem interested and Genesis might make fun of my choice of swimwear." He added with a laugh. "Besides, he's too much of a show-off to have much fun with at times. I love him like a brother, but not that much."
no subject
She laughed softly at his term for Gen.
"Yes, he is sort of like a brother. He and I thought as much when he returned last month and he allowed me to take those awful braids out of his hair."
no subject
He did like that Genesis, both of them, were very particular about their appearances. He wasn't too far behind, but Angeal was far more down to earth than his outspoken and oft poetic counterpart. He had thought about going many times while the weather was still warm but hadn't had any reason to go other than to be alone and that wasn't much fun at all.
He sighed as he calmed down through his laughter and shook his head. "I bought it while it was still warm but I hadn't had any reason to use it. I suppose it has something to do with the cold that makes one wish for the summer again. Basic psychology plays a large part in planning a trip, I think."
no subject
She supposed when Spring was about it would be the season to start looking for swimwear, especially now that she was realizing that she could start being more herself than just a soldier. Gen was constantly reminding her of this.
"Yes, I do much prefer the warmth. I think most people do."
no subject
And he was doing just that as he inhaled deeply to take in the salty air of the roaring fire before them as they sat in her backyard. The warm glow offered something that he missed, and that was spending time with those he cared most.
"It's true, I think." Angeal said with his eyes closed as he lost himself for just a moment to the memory of his mother as she baked pies in the cold, winter months. He missed those days the most.
no subject
She reached over for a small piece of chocolate, popping it into her mouth as they relaxed before the fire. She was glad she had thought of this, it was a lot of fun and quite peaceful. Perhaps, later on, she could get Sephiroth and the other Genesis here too. But it would take awhile, she knew. "Next month, Banora would have the Solstice Festival. You think this place will have something similar?"
no subject
"I hope so. It would be a shame if they didn't celebrate something this time of year to bring forth some cheer. I miss the festivals. Well, at least in decorating the living tree." He chuckled.
no subject
She swallowed the last bit, mimicking Angeal as she leaned back and looked up at the stars. They looked so different than the ones back home, but it made sense. They weren't on Gaia. And they were definitely much brighter, the sky not being polluted by the industrial machines and whatnot.
no subject
"You mean to tell me that she didn't let you get involved in the festivities?" He looked toward her with a concerned expression. It seemed strange to him that Genesis had come from such an affluent family didn't allow her to have fun. Then again, he wasn't familiar with how the upper class society ran unless he had seen it himself.
no subject
Any chance to got to piss her parents off was pretty much on her to-do list.
no subject
A small smile came to him as he listened that soon pushed aside his uneasiness. It was like Genesis to do something against the grain and he chuckled. "Now it makes sense. All those times that you came over to the house was because you snuck out."
He thought that it might have been the same with the Genesis he grew up with and thought to ask him when he had the chance. Perhaps he would send a note.
no subject
She shrugged. "Socializing was never important to me. Aside from being with you."
