Summary: The long-awaited meeting with Palitutu! This post will be updated as things evolve and will lead into the main event for the second Anniversary, Revelations. According to the predictions of a certain Heroes of Light, Ultima WEAPON shall be fought during the meeting, better be prepared. Trying to avoid the meeting is a bad idea, as Palitutu mentioned she will use that very WEAPON to destroy Aqures Ixen if the Heroes feel cowardly.

"I doubt foul weather will keep her from her foul purpose. We must remain watchful." Ramza has foregone his cloak, despite the weather. He does not want his movements hindered, even at the cost of protection from the elements. The rain is the least of his concerns.

He can tell that Rialynn is nervous, despite their training sessions to prepare her to fight. "I am proud of you for coming here today. It would have been an easy thing to run away."

Rialynn smiled, touched, with a slight incline to her brows. It was kind of him to say that. "I'm not afraid of battles," she promised. Maybe she felt a little inadequate with her level of skills, but that wouldn't have prevented her from coming. There was simply too much at stake, and too many people she wanted to protect.

She turned her head and tried to squint at the hazy shapes in the rain, but she couldn't see anything that resembled a Tarutaru or a gigantic weapon of death and destruction.

"Thank you for training with me. I know that's not easy when most of what I do is just singing at you." She grinned a little despite the seriousness of the situation. "I've got your back if things get rough."

Ramza shrugged. "It is not the first time I have trained with bards. Some of the men in my party back home chose that profession."

He smiled at her. "So be assured that I know just how advantageous a bard's song can be in battle. I will rely on your support, when the battle begins."

"You did?" She hadn't known that. She cast a brief glance into the rain before looking back at Ramza. "Were they regular bards, or the magic kind?" She assumed the latter, as she doubted music had much place on a battlefield. There were drummers to herald the march of troops, sure, but other than inspiring a little bit of dread in the opposition, that was about the extent of a normal musician's power.

Even so, she found herself nodding, even smiling back. He made her feel a little more hopeful about their chances of success. "I'll stick close by, then," she nodded. "To tell the truth, I tried to customize one of my dances to assist Freelancers. But I was told it wouldn't have any effect, so I picked Black Mage instead." Her shoulders hitched. "I think Barkeep favors that Job."

"What do you mean?" 'Regular' bards were able to lift spirits, and stats, with the power of their songs. It would be reckless to bring along a musician who had no way to defend themselves in battle.

"Bards have their own kind of powers. They strengthen the allies around them." Ramza was not sure if this was 'magic' or not. It just was the way it was.

"But being able to aid Barkeep will be useful. Black magic works well against mechanical enemies, and ranged attacks are never amiss against so large and dangerous a foe."

Rialynn listened intently, nodding along as he fed her all of this useful information. Maybe after she finished her performer and dancer jobs, she should look into equipping herself as a Black Mage next.

But she still had a few questions.

"Then this Ultima Weapon is...'mechanical'?" Because mechanics didn't really exist where she came from, nothing truly advanced in any case. "I was also told that Palitutu used to be the boss in the lab, so the Boss Fight melody might be useful too."

Ramza shrugs. "In part. It is pieced together from some natural and some mechanical pieces, to make a hybrid like no other creature."

But in his experiences, parts made of flesh will be easier to defeat than the metal parts, so magic, he thinks, will be a boon in the upcoming battle.

"From what I have heard of that song, it will be most helpful."

That did it, then. Vincent said it would be useful, and Ramza confirmed it. Boss Fight song it was. She closed her eyes for a moment, silently humming the tune in her head, her left hand twitching to indicate which fingers pressed down on which strings to alter the tune. If all else failed, she could sing, but she wasn't sure her voice was loud enough to be heard over the din.

"So you've actually seen this thing before," she said, furrowing her brow. "How tough is this fight going to be, any idea?"

Ramza shook his head. "I have seen it deactivated. There were exhibits on it, when we went back to Aqures Tosf. It was made to fight the Calamity itself, so it must be powerful."

He sighed. "Palitutu would not come if she did not trust it would be able to protect her. This battle will not be an easy one."

"I was afraid of that..." Rialynn sighed, slumping forward. But a few moments later, a thought occurred to her. He'd said it was made to fight the Calamity itself...? Rialynn straightened, blinking, then her brow wrinkled as she turned to look at him again.

"Then if we can beat the Ultima Weapon, there's a good chance we can beat the Calamity too," she reasoned. "Do you think that's what she's doing? Testing us to see if we're strong enough? Because if we aren't, maybe that means they'll have to reset everything again with the Time Loop."

"'Tis possible. Though, I do not know if that will be the case. The Weapon was designed for that purpose, but it never succeeded. The Calamity was stronger than the Weapon."

It was true that if the Heroes could not defeat the Weapon, it would be doubtful they could stand a chance against the Calamity. So that was a possible motive, at least.

[rialynn]

"Hmmm..." That was information she hadn't come across before. "How long ago did they test that?" It couldn't have been during another loop. How would they have recorded the results if that was the case? "Well, I guess if we win this fight, it's a good sign that we've been improving. You've got your sword, I've got my songs..."

And everyone else was a battle monster, she assumed. "We'll be okay." She flashed him a quick but confident smile.

"I do not know if they ever tested it... the information from that previous era is limited."

So perhaps they did have a chance?

"Yes, if we Heroes all stand together, we will find a way to prevail. I know it will be so."
