[ Tear's first instinct was to try and use her own body as a shield to protect Ace, just as she had so often used it to protect others from danger. But when the blue light fades and her eyes open again, it became all too clear that it hadn't been enough.

Pale white and silent, she could only stare at her partner as memories of a future neither had lived flooded her mind, the same feelings of then twisting her stomach painfully and forcing her throat to go dry. It's only when she recognises the light of Life surrounding his body that she fully snaps out of it, holding back a sharp gasp.

Still hovering over him protectively, fierce determination pushed past terror and reflected in her eyes, fists clenching before she reached to take his hand in hers and began to try singing again. Her voice was choked, but she kept trying until Boss Theme came forth with the same vigour as before, no matter how much it was straining her.

Unfortunately she would have to abandon Soul Voice for the time being, replacing it with The Final Fantasy. No matter what her heart demanded her to do, she had to keep focus and ensure that no one else died. ]

[The last thing he clearly remembers was pain and a semi-controlled fall, holding Lucrecia tightly and trying to turn so he'd take more of the impact that she would. Then everything went blindingly blue and white and agonizing and then nothing more.

Red-and-golden sparkles from the Phoenix Down rain down around him, and Vincent awakes to pain. This is nothing new--nor is the feeling of mounting rage and anger from the back of his mind signifying Chaos is awake. What IS new, is the awareness they're on the ground, and he still has Lucrecia held against him protectively.

Tuning out the roaring in the back of his mind, both arms curl more around his ex (so complicated, but he wasn't letting her die yet). A Smoke bomb moves them away and back towards the farther reaches of the field. Then Vincent is shoving away from her, curling in on himself as his Limit Break fully activates. Painful even more, and his form is shimmering in hints of white, fading as wings uncurl from his back and his whole body shifts.

Uncurling from the stance, great bat wings unfurl as red eyes narrow. It is not the Chaos Lucrecia recognizes as the being takes to the air and heads to attack the Core of the Weapon.]

[Levy isn't sure how she survived that, but she's not about to waste the opportunity. Though her body is weak, she can feel the power of her Limit Break surging through her, making her magic stronger than ever. Taking a breath, she gestures toward the Ultima WEAPON, once again channeling her script magic.]

Solid Script: Lava!

[Bolstered by the Limit Break's energy, the word 'LAVA' appears above the WEAPON before melting and flowing down over it, burning red hot.]

[Thanks to her own Limit Break, Chiaki is completely unharmed by Ultima. Unfortunately, many of her allies can't say the same thing. But so far it's been a blessing in disguise, since so many of them have been able to activate their strongest attacks. She's been watching the WEAPON this whole time to get a sense for its timing, so after the injured Heroes are all finished using their Limit Breaks, Chiaki uses her robot's Healing Force to bring as many Heroes as she can back to their feet.]

[This. This is what Mordecai was worried about. He had stayed far away from the WEAPON during the fight and only received minor wounds, but he is lucid enough to see Ramza collapsed from fatal damage. For this moment in time, his universe centers on the body of his roommate, the young man he thinks of as his son. Without considering any other options, he pushes through the crowd, dead set on reaching Ramza. Mordecai has drunk the sole elixir he has on him, and with each second passing, he can feel the Regen working and giving him the energy to trudge through the muddy terrain. Before he can heal anyone, he has to check on Ramza!

A song emerges from the background noise. Rialynn's voice. The lyrics do not reach his ears, but they do reach Ramza's. Or the gods, whatever this magic is supposed to do. He stops in his tracks to better listen. Is she trying to change the outcome of the spell? Either way, it distracts him from rushing over and wasting the rest of the battle looking after Ramza, and finally he notices that...there are other people he should probably take care of.

Hey, if anyone else is going to revive Ramza, let it be the girl Mordecai ships him with.

Eyeing the remaining dead, his eyes are drawn to a girl wearing the armor distinctive to the Crystal Knight: Alice. Palitutu might shut down their Jobs, and Alice will be protected. As a safeguard, he casts Revive on her, bringing her to a manageable health level.]

Albel was in bad shape. But like hell was he going to stop now and let someone else tell him what to do -- even if it was Sheena. He recalled his dragon, suffering from its own wounds, and pushed himself up despite the pain. Fight it. Push through it. Pain meant he was still alive, and he wanted to keep himself that way.

Slowly, he walked toward Ultima Weapon, laying a hand on Sheena's shoulder as he passed her. "Stay back." He wouldn't hurt her -- and he'd try not to hurt Ales, now that he noticed the small hacker. But he couldn't guarantee the safety of anyone else who got in his way.

If he stood just right... he could catch the Weapon in range without hitting Ales. Or Sheena, as long as she didn't get any closer to him. "Vampire Flash!" His Limit Break activated and the ground around him beginning to swirl a dark red, almost black. Anyone -- or anything -- within a 10 foot radius will have both HP and MP sapped as Albel drained it to heal himself.

[…can she keep Runic forever because that was incredible.

Less so what Ultima's done to everyone else, and K'pandolu scans the field to evaluate the people who were downed, one hand going to her satchel. Some of them are already being revived, so that's something off her mind- even if spotting Minfilia's limit break brings some of it right back. She spots Saori and pulls out a tuft of phoenix down to use of the other woman. She's ready to grab potions as needed, attention flicking to the rest of the battlefield still.]

[Saori immediately sits up before the red and golden sparkles even faded away. She frantically looks around the battlefield. Where were Ira and Mary? Damn the fact she didn't have Eagle Vision to scan for the two. She barely had a chance to reply to her girlfriend when she landed by her side and the Ultima attack. When she spots K'pandolu, she stops.]

You just brought me back, didn't you? Thank you!

[Using her spear as support, she manages to get up and get out a bottle of hi-potion. She doesn't even stop to breathe as she downs the contents heavily. Her Dragoon armor is heavily cracked in some places but there's no time to worry about repairs. She cast a Clone and the two rush towards the Core. Even if she were to get hit, she'd have enough health to trigger her limit break once more.]

Chaos Thrust!

Needless to say, Palitutu doesn’t reply to any attempts made to speak with her. And for good reasons: in its current state, a second of inattention would spell the WEAPON’s doom. The onslaught of Limit Breaks directed at the core have had a clear effect and it looks as though the WEAPON is slumped over itself. No status ailments affect the WEAPON, but all attacks clearly hit the Core hard. For all of the casualties suffered by the Heroes of Light, their efforts and sacrifices are paying as the WEAPON seems to near its end. Even so, it doesn’t give up the fight and the Heroes shouldn’t rest just yet: should the arms regenerate before they can bring the core down, their efforts will have all been for naught.

Left Side
> Regeneration: 11%
[The left side is inactive. It will no longer attack.
The regeneration process is evident enough as the left arm visibly heals and gets better over time.
The regeneration process of this side is slowed down by the hacking.]

Right Side

[The right side is inactive. It will no longer attack.
It regenerates 15% health per turn. It will return to normal once the regeneration process is complete if uninterrupted.]

Core
> Ultima Beam
[The core of the WEAPON attacks the Heroes of Light standing in the vicinity before them with a powerful beam aimed to the ground and exploding upon hitting it—The Heroes have a five seconds warning upon seeing the core glow to get out of there.]

Thankfully enough, thanks to the Limit Break granting temporary invincibility, most Heroes should be left unharmed by this attack.

[ Sheena's breathing hard from both exertion and anger when she feels Albel's hand on her shoulder and turns to him, eyes narrowed. ]

I thought I told you--

[ She stops when he gives her a warning. A warning. That alone is enough to set her alarm bells ringing, since he'd more than likely would have just carried her off, like he had moments ago--or even months ago--to get her out of danger. This has to be something else, and while a part of her wants to argue and stay, a sixth sense is telling her to heed him. So, she moves back.

And when she sees the beginning of his Limit Break, she uses Smoke Bomb to move even farther away--to the WEAPON's left side as a matter of fact. Just in time for the Beam to strike the ground and once again knock her off her feet while raining rocks and other debris on her.

Is she injured? Yes because her Seal hadn't been able to absorb all of that. Is she near Limit Break again? No. But that doesn't stop her from rising painfully to her feet and using her katana to keep herself upright. Wiping at some blood on her face, she finally drinks the ether she has before once more strengthening her Guardian Seal for protection.

Casting Shunshin and intending to halt the regeneration of the Left Arm, she uses the speed granted to repeatedly cast Thundara on it. ]

[Selphie nodded grimly at Rukia as the perky brunette eventually straightened herself out and stood upright once more. The arms were down from what she could see but there was another issue at hand.

Selphie was just about spent from the magic use and wasn't sure how much longer she could hold out.]

My magic is just about gone...

[Selphie felt like she might have a few more spells in her but not much more than that. Wounds wise, the burns she'd suffered from the lasers are nothing more than angry red lines and the worst of the damage from the spell unleased by the WEAPON was patched up thanks to her Limit Break. She briefly jerks a thumb in the direction of the city with a wry grin.]

Besides, we can't bite the dust here. There's a house full of unruly folks to keep in line and who's gonna do it if we're not there?

[The blowback from the Ultima Beam knocks Johnny back from the Core, but thankfully, he's unhurt due to the invincibility spell. This doesn't slow down his own limit break. After a few moments, he's back on his feet and barreling toward it, once apart ripping at it with his bare hands with all of his might.]

[Getting knocked back from the Core gives Sparks enough time to see the left arm healing itself.]

Oh no you don't.

[Turning away from hurting the Core is too important, so he'll cast Electrostatic so that all three parts take a powerful hit.]

[Having hit the floor from the fall after his limit break, Sephiroth is -perhaps thankfully- on his back a little behind the Weapon and so manages to avoid the latest Ultima Beam. Probably just as well as he might well have been out of range of most heals and/or buffs that went out last round.

A handful of scattered black feathers seem to have decorated the ground around his right-shoulder but right now he'll just concentrate on taking deep breaths while he catches up to the fact that his health pool is still grievously low despite the fact his custom job works on to speed up his recovery since he still has Combat Mode on and isn't actively engaged for the time being.

All the mud and blood is going to take a miracle to get out of his hair, not to mention the uniform he's wearing but there isn't anything else he can do right at this moment.]

[With the moment of invincibility provided by Minfilia, Ales continues his work without further harm. It still hurts even with the painfully slow healing, but he's not dying.

Since the screen shows the left arm's progress bar to be higher, he focuses on stalling the regeneration for that side.]

[Cloud's arms go up as the energy blast fires, but once again he's found himself protected by the boon of others. He's not about to let them down.]

Come on! We have it on the ropes! We can bring it down!

[Putting his fingers to his lips he lets loose a loud and clear whistle. It's answered by an eager 'KWEH!' and Zack comes bounding across the battlefield. The chocobo is eager to help and leaps into the air to deliver a flurry of kicks to the core!]

[As much as he'd like to join in on the barrage, Jade has more healing to do. Just as he's done casting Life on Twilight, he catches sight of Sephiroth, separated from the others and visibly struggling.

Oh, hell no. He's not going to have another reminder of the Rift incident. One Vanish later and Jade appears by his old comrade's side.]

A bit early for a break, isn't it? [Says the man who didn't have to deal with Ultima to the face. Quips aside, he's quick to cast Curaga.] Go on. I'll watch your back.

[Chaos--even limited by the human-vessel he was bonded to, and then filtered through to this strange planet--knew his purpose. He was the reaper, the being who would scourge the world of all living things that would return them to the lifestream, for Omega. There was no life-stream here, and his actions were tempered by Vincent's will in the back of his mind.

The Ultima did not seem to phase the bestial demon much. If it did, clearly Chaos did not care. Instead great arms whipped out, gesturing and then beckoning, drawing forth the effects of Satan Slam. The ground around and beneath the Ultima Weapon started to shift, rumbling and rising into a large skull before slamming back down around the weapon. Chaos's only target is the weapon.]

[ As he awakens to a soothing sensation of powerful white magic washing over his body, it doesn't take long for Ace to realise what has just occurred. An attempt at moving is met with resistance he identifies as a hand holding down his own, and there's just one person it can belong to.

Breathing out an almost inaudible word of gratitude, he uses Tear’s hand as support to quickly get to his feet. His fingers briefly intertwine with hers before the cadet unwillingly steps to the side in order to grant them both more space. Regardless of his feelings, he can't afford to interrupt her.

And from the looks of it, they must be close to achieving just what Palitutu deemed an impossible feat. Though he’s been left feeling weak as a result of the Ultima, he will keep on casting Thundaga for as long as his mental energy allows. ]

For a moment it seems as though the Heroes’ efforts have finally paid off as an explosion occurs and smoke arises from the left side. However, calling it a victory would be premature as the WEAPON didn’t seem to be done attacking—Evidently enough, Palitutu wouldn’t give up till the WEAPON was in pieces.

[The core of the WEAPON attacks the Jade with a very powerful attack causing grievous damages. All Heroes directly in his vicinity will receive medium damages.]

Energy's getting low from doing this every turn, so Kaji is picking his shots. He has moved from one shooting position to a better one, with all the debris now in the way. As soon as he finds any cover, he hunkers down, far enough away to avoid getting hurt by the Earthquake, but he still felt that. Once the last aftershock dissipates, he fires yet another Heavy Shot. You're at your weakest right after you've attacked, right?

Selphie wanted to cheer at the explosion that happened to the WEAPON but it looked like it still had some fight left in it. The perky brunettes hands are trembling slightly from the mana drain but there's only one course to follow. She thrusts both arms out in front of her and casts Thundara once again for good measure on the core.

[A sharp, jagged stone spike erupts from the ground and skewers Jade's leg. The shock breaks his concentration and by then it's too late to teleport; the earth under him shatters and he gets caught in the explosion of rocks.

A boulder hits him in the gut and knocks all breath out of him. Another one scrapes the side of his face, knocking off his glasses and the Dragoon helmet he got from Levy. The abuse his body is taking lasts far too long, until the spell finally ends and he falls, landing heavily on the broken ground, battered and bleeding.

Jade rolls over with a groan and weakly reaches for his staff. Then he stops. Forget it -- he never liked being a healer anyway. He only did it because he'd gotten stuck with too many people relying on his protection for him to back out. But right now?

Palitutu is being a nuisance.

Between adrenaline and sheer stubbornness, he manages to crawl out of the muddy hole in the ground and stand up unsteadily.] Enough of this. [With a ragged breath, Jade faces the looming WEAPON and channels his rising temper into a Limit Break.]

I, who stand in the full light of the heavens command thee, who opens the gates of hell. Come forth, divine lightning! [A shining glyph of light forms under the WEAPON's feet. The light then rises, pillar-like, crackling with electricity, forms more glyphs above the monster's head and zooms into the sky where the storm clouds are congregating in one single point.]

This ends now! Indignation!

[Pure white lightning bolts strike the WEAPON's Core in one ear-splitting boom. With the last of his adrenaline spike spent, Jade's legs give out and he starts falling back towards the hole left by Earthquake. Someone's about to get impaled by more rocks.]

Wasn't intending to take a break-

[Curaga has Sephiroth hauling himself to his feet a moment later, crouching again to retrieve Masamune where the thin blade had become hidden in the mud as the rain continues to pour down on the battlefield. But it seems the Weapon doesn't like Jade being such an efficient healer.

Earthquake quickly has the ground underneath Sephiroth, too, starting to break apart...a boulder clipped the back of his knee too as he was in the area-of-effect; threatening him to be knocked over again if not for the powerful cure that Jade had delivered.]

No-

[In the white-blindness and ear-ringing that follows Jade's Indignation Sephiroth searches for the comrade that had come to his aid. He only has the time to register the distance before he's moving. Dash takes far more effort than it had before, but if he could at least tackle his friend away from the cavern of broken earth that had been left by the Weapon's attack-

Sephiroth tries to put a spin on the maneuver at the last moment to attempt to soften the way Jade might land on the ground but-]

Jade! Sephiroth!

[Levy had been concentrating on keeping up the pressure with her lava, but there's no way she's going to let an important colleague and one of the strongest fighters among the Heroes die on a bunch of sharp rocks. Dismissing her spell, she whirls around, gesturing quickly toward the two.]

Solid Script: Net!

[Just as fast as she moves, the word 'NET' appears floating in the air below Sephiroth and Jade as they fall. Somehow, it acts just like the word it represents, buoying their descent and stopping them just above the sharp rocks at the bottom of the hole.]

Whew...
