Once More, With Feeling!
WHO: Chrom, Aang, Selphie Tilmitt, and open to anyone else who wants to find a chocobo
WHAT: A mini-expedition sets out once more to find chocobos. A Chocobo Knight is nothing without his birb.
WHEN: Septembird 5th, 2016 - Labird Day
WHERE: Calm Plains
Chrom was pleased that the weather proved to be so accommodating. He'd been worried, given the nasty storms that had heralded their return from the rift, and the thick clouds that had plagued yesterday's sky made him uneasy that their venture would be ruined by rain. But to his relief, cloudy was as bad as it got, and it was a welcome relief from the sweltering sun of summer.
With the chocobo lure gratefully borrowed from the old man at the ranch, Chrom set out with his companions. He allowed Aang to use the lure first, as he was the youngest in their group. Selphie could go next.
Part of him wondered if he would see the strange man in the chocobo suit show up again, but the saner part hoped he wouldn't. He didn't like disappointing people, and he surely would if he declined a ride yet again.
[OOC: Feel free to find whatever type of bird you like. Or if you prefer to choose randomly, use RNG 100 with the following table:
1-69: Yellow Chocobo
70: Man in a chocobo suit
71-75: Aqua Blue
76-80: Green
81-85: Red
86-90: White
91-95: Purple
96-100: Light Blue
Have fun!]

So, oblivious to the fact that a group expedition is out to do exactly this, he grabs the crystal and sets out! And when he finally sees a yellow Chocobo off in the distance...
You may hear this VERY LOUD SHOUTING.]
W-what the - That's the biggest bird I've ever seen! Is that some kinda... dragon-chicken?! Don't tell me that's...
no subject
A chocobo. Indeed.
[He's impressed with how quickly Donnel managed to find one of the birds.]
I don't see any monsters lingering nearby, so this one is likely to be friendly. Are you ready?
no subject
[He's rather relieved to see you, naturally. He adjusts his pot.]
Well... I think I can do this! I think the old man said... something about finding buried treasure together?
no subject
[He can't see Donnel having a problem with wrangling a bucking chocobo, though, the boy's got a gift with animals.]
Let's hope for the buried treasure option just the same. A boost to your Hero funds certainly wouldn't hurt.
[Chrom grins, and gives him a nod. If monsters do appear, Donnel won't be fighting them alone.]
no subject
Shouldn't be too hard to ride one of these! Let's see here...
[He tentatively reaches out to the bird, slowly petting it. Gotta let it know you first before suddenly hopping on.]
Easy now, big fella...
no subject
How can you tell what gender it is?
no subject
I can't, actually! Most animals don't really care much what you call 'em, long as you have the right voice. If they can tell you mean well, I could call it sir or ma'am and it'll still be okay.
[That said, he waits for the Chocobo to take a step or two, before pressing his fingers in, and making the climb - !]
C'mon Donny...
no subject
I think you've won its trust. Any hopes as to what kind of treasure you'll dig up?
no subject
[The Chocobo then begins to walk...]
Hey now! Maybe he's already found somethin!
[... And turn into a full on sprint.]
Wha-H-HEEEEY!
no subject
[Chrom calls out with his hands cupped to his mouth, then drops them with a quiet chuckle. It's nice to have one of his Shepherds around, though it's a pity Robin isn't here to enjoy the antics they've all grown accustomed to having around one another.]
Don't worry, I'll be close behind! Just hang on and let it do what it needs to do.
no subject
[WHY IS THIS SO FAST. Donny hangs on for dear life, and while it goes on for some time, thankfully the bird does eventually stop. He manages to sit up, sliding the pot back in its proper place.]
I think I saw my whole life flash before my eyes...
no subject
Now that you've had a moment to get to know one another better, what will you call your chocobo?
no subject
[Huh, he'd forgotten all about that. He contemplates as he pets the bird's head.]
Boy or girl, this eager bird kinda reminds me of Nowi... But she'd probably be angry as a hornet's nest if I named it after her. So, how's about we go with "Drago?" Like Dragon!
no subject
I think that's more than suitable. She'd be pleased to know that you're thinking of her, I'm sure.

[Even seeing one of Anna's relatives running the hot spring had brought back a warm rush of nostalgia. It...didn't last long, once she extracted her price from the group, of course.]
Still, you are here, and for that I am grateful. It is my hope that Robin and Morgan may awaken here once more.

no subject
...From the future.
[He might be a little red, because how in all of the hells can he explain that when he barely understands it himself?]
no subject
[That startles him so much he falls off "Drago", who just tilts his head.]
no subject
It surprised me as well. We can be drawn from our worlds at different points in time. It's somewhat complicated. Are you all right?
no subject
Different times...? A-and you got to meet your own son? That's amazing! I don't know how I'd handle somethin' like that.
no subject
[He laughs, albeit somewhat awkwardly.]
It inspires a certain pride, and a fierce desire to protect. I'm sure you'll understand one day.
[Especially if a kid shows up from a timeline where Donnel is a father himself.]
no subject
[He blushes a little. Him, a father? It sounds kind of wild. The women in the army deserve a better fella than him.]
W-well, uh, if this Morgan shows up again, I'll protect him too. Any kin of yours is royalty, after all.
no subject
[He may as well show Donnel what Morgan looks like at least.]
You have my thanks.

[He shakes his head with a quiet smile.]
I do miss them. But at times it's helpful to remember who we're fighting to protect. You're welcome to accompany me at any time, Donnel.

Rolled a 63!
When she saw a young chocobo approaching her however, Selphie placed the lure on the ground and coaxed the bird toward her with a mix of Ghysal and Sylkis Greens. It took quite some time for the skittish little thing to come close enough but before long, the half-grown Chocobo was letting her pet it as she carefully looped the reign around its beak.]
Now... what to name you...?
no subject
[Chrom smiles proudly as he approaches, admiring the bird. It's more shy than most chocobos he's seen, but it seems perfectly at ease with Selphie. He'll keep a respectable distance, so as not to startle the chocobo and disrupt their bonding.]
Is it a male or a female?
no subject
The creature tugged on the reign when Chrom approached however as Selphie looped the reign around her wrist a couple times.]
I'm not too sure. Little thing is pretty shy though and it doesn't look very old either...
no subject
Even so, she seems to like you. That trust will continue to develop the more time you spend with her.
[Nothing indicates that the chocobo is female, but he just kind of assumes. It reminds him of Olivia, a little.]
no subject
I've always liked animals but was never allowed to have any pets. The joys of living in a dorm all your life. I think we'll get along just fine. We'll be small but mighty together.
no subject
[He laughs, and nods his head.]
Well then, I take it you'll be making the rest of this journey mounted?
no subject
[Selphie mutters that last part more than anything but she looks at her newfound Chocobo and shakes her head. Those are two things that Selphie knows nothing about and is something that she'd have to read up on and learn how to do.]
As for riding my new Chocobo, I think they're a little small to ride right now. And, I've never really rode on a Chocobo before so... it's probably better to stick to walking for now. It'll help my new Chocobo get used to being around others too and a friend of mine works at the farm so I should be able to get some help from him.
Rolled a 41
[It would be nice for something to go according to plan without unnecessary complications for a change.]
[He walks, and walks, and walks...and no sign of any chocobos yet. And yet, there's an unmistakable feeling of being...watched...]
[Chrom turns around quickly, but sees only his companions.]
That's strange...
[His brow descends for a moment, but seeing nothing, he walks forward again. That feeling continues to persist. He finds himself glancing at the shrubberies with growing unease. If this winds up being another man in a chocobo costume...]
