RUINS RUINS RUINS!!!

Who: Mikleo, Hisui Hearts & Rialynn Kollmann
Where: Ruins of Roalie
When: Sometime in November
What: Cids asks that before the Ruins of Roalie are are examined before they are lost. If there is anything that can be saved so that the history of Roalie will not be lost forever, retrieve it and bring it to the Library in Aqures Ixen. Mikleo is all for preserving history like a nerd he is with his friends~! Derived from This Quest

The Ruins of Roalie!

What an exciting quest to be on. Honestly, he couldn't have been more excited. He figured he'd have to do rather tedious quests to get certain items but this wasn't such a bad quest after all. He was already packed and ready to meet his fellow companions. He hasn't seen Hisui or Rialynn in a while and this quest is a good excuse to catch up with his friends.

He knew that eventually, things will come to an end, so he wants to make the best of it. There are a lot of things weighing on his mind but at a time like this, he can't let it bother him. He knows the quest can be a bit troublesome and finding any sort of artifacts to preserve is close to none. However, if he can somehow crack at the history of Roalie a bit more, he'd love to try.

He wants to preserve whatever knowledge of the region he can get and he wants to ensure that its history will not be lost as well. Mikleo's standing at the edge of the remains of Roalie as he scopes out the region from his stand point. He's armed with his typical Black Mage and White Mage jobs in hopes of assisting his allies with the battle. He's not much of an aggressive fight but he can provide a lot of magical support.

The leather saddle creaked as Rialynn stood in the stirrups, craning her neck to try and catch a glimpse of the skeletons that Hisui's sharp eyes picked out, but no such luck. Sitting back down, she looked at the others. "Well...we probably don't need to go out of our way to fight them. We might very well find some on our own while we're exploring. But if we finish our job and have plenty of energy left over and no Blue Mage skills, why don't we give it a shot?" she shrugged. "I have to admit, I'm curious to see what we'll find out here too. I thought the entire area was completely wiped out with nothing left behind."

Her horse shook its mane and flicked its tail, chasing off more flies. Rialynn quieted for a moment, looking down at the reins in her hands. "...Do you think it was hard for Cid to give us this job? Roalie was his home. He was imprisoned when the Empire destroyed it."

"Maybe; only he could answer that with certainty." Hisui shrugged, interlocking his fingers behind his head. "It's pointless to think about it in vague what-ifs, at this point. We were given a job, and if we complete it we get rewarded."
rialynn: (You're a jerk)

"It's not pointless," Rialynn shook her head in response to Hisui. "Cid is entrusting us with this mission. He's brusque and tough, but he's still human. This place was wiped out over a year ago, and he's only just now assigning this quest to someone. That's got to mean something."

She pushed her wind-tossed hair away from her face, frowning as she gazed ahead. "I wish I knew his story. It can't be an easy one to tell, but he's the one of the last survivors of this place. Maybe if we do right by him and find something useful, he might tell us more about it. It's not right to let all of those stories and memories just die like that."

As a bard, history was a passion for her, especially if that history was happening right now. The truth of important events should be remembered by the generations to come, so that they could be treasured and learned from by those who sought wisdom and experience.

"Right. So artifacts first, then skeletons if we're lucky enough to explore without being bothered. Seems pretty straightforward to me!" She urged her horse onward to pick up the pace. It would be best if they could reach the city while there was still plenty of daylight, since she didn't relish the idea of spending the night in a place that had to be choked with the ghosts of those who died.

Hisui opened his mouth, but decided against saying anything in response. He didn't mean for what he said to be taken as offensive, but then again, it usually turned out that way anyway. And arguing about it wouldn't do any good, either. Maybe he was growing up? In any case, Hisui had little to no interest in ruins it's not like they were from Quartzia so he just let the two do their own thing.

Rialynn blinked, looking between the two. She wasn't offended in the slightest, just stating the way she saw it. Awkwardly she rubbed the back of her head. How was it she could read a crowd so easily, but fail so utterly when it came to just talking to other people?

"Right. Sorry, Hisui. I didn't mean to shut you down or anything," she shook her head before offering a lopsided smile. Blue Mages had to stick together, after all.

As soon as they drew near enough to one of the toppled stone structure where Rialynn had something tangible to which she could hitch her horse, she dismounted and looked around the ruined, sand-soaked remains. No Skeletons or Chimeras yet, as far as she could see, and she knew the Gargoyles wouldn't show up until it grew dark. With winter in full swing, they wouldn't have much daylight available to them.

The place gave her stomach a queasy feeling just looking at it. This place had only been destroyed in the last, what, two years? Three? It was unsettling in its silence. The explosion of just one crystal had done all of this... She tried to feel excited about the journey and the exploration, but up close, she could only picture the suddenness of the destruction. Most of those killed in the blast probably never knew it happened before they'd died.

She drew her sword and gave a faint nod to the others.

"It's cool," Hisui folded his hands behind his head. Then Rialynn drew her weapon, so Hisui did the same. "I really wish I had a more melee-oriented Job, but I guess we'll have to do with what we got..."
rialynn: (I'm not falling for that)

[personal profile] rialynn 2017-01-08 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Rialynn said nothing at first, listening intently for any indication of monsters...a shuffling of feet, growls, scrapes... But all that could be heard was the eerie whistle of the wind as it swept through the skeletal city.

"Well..." she glanced at the others. "Should we split up, and holler if we find anything interesting or dangerous? There's a lot of ground to cover, and I don't think we'll be able to find anything at all once it gets dark unless one of you has amazing vision."

"I got goggles and fair vision, but yeah, let's split up." Hisui nodded. Splitting up seemed like a good idea, and it didn't seem like there would be a lot of big gigantic scary monsters that would show up unless they dawdled. "Should we have a signal for the first sign of dark?"
rialynn: (Happy Bard)

"Yelling works for me," Rialynn grinned. "I don't have any fire magic of my own, but I'll keep an eye out if you use yours." Ordinarily this would have been where she tapped her sword against those of her companions, but Hisui had a gun, and Mikleo had...what, a bow? A staff? It sure wasn't a sword, so there would be no steely high fives this day.

Now that their plans were set, she departed with a bounce in her step, following the sandy streets and turning down an alleyway to the east. As sad and solemn as the place was, she had to admit, the need to explore burned hot in her blood. Surely there had to be something of interest they could bring back to Cid.

This was easy. Given that Hisui was obviously the most macho of the three, he would be the least likely to get himself into trouble. Of course, that meant he would also be the least likely to find what they were looking f- "Oh, here we go." Dusting off the cover, Hisui held a gigantic book called Everything about Roalie. Well, that was simple enough. If only there was some sort of red button to show how much winning was going on here. Oh, wait, here was one!

...

Wait, it moved.

...

Oh, shit, it's not a button. It's a glowing red eye from a monster.

"LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!" Hisui yelled out in the most manly of manners, as he bolted out of the ruins.
rialynn: (I found it and it is mine)

Rialynn was studying an old brass...compass? It was some sort of compact machine that would easily fit into someone's pocket, and though the outside bore a few scratches and could dearly use a thorough polishing, it seemed to be in good shape. She'd take it back.

Then she heard Hisui yelling manfully.

The bard came tearing around the corner, rapier drawn, and looking oddly...excited? This excitement dulled significantly at the sight of the chimera. Definitely not the monster she wanted, they'd have to take it out fast before she picked up Aqua Breath instead of Magic Blow.

"Are we doing this? Fighting or running?" she asked, seemingly not at all afraid to stand in front of the two others. Hey, she was a Spoony Bard, she could be nearly invincible if she wanted.

"THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT?!" Hisui screamed at his companions. At least he yelled loud enough for them to notice. Rebounding off of a wall, he turned around and began shooting wildly at the creature, now that he had some companions. "I can heal myself! You guys - if you wanna take this thing out, great! But let's make it quick, all right?"
rialynn: (Son I am disappoint)

[personal profile] rialynn 2017-03-11 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly," Rialynn nodded once at Mikleo before looking back at the chimera. "What do you need from me? I'm handy with a rapier, but I don't have any special abilities. I've got my songs at the ready to support you if that's what you need." Maybe she should have asked about their combat potential first before they went into monster-infested territory, but at least she was fixing it now.

"The beast isn't going to wait around for us to come up with a plan! Just beat its ass down!" Hisui yelled, as he went in guns blazing after setting down the book in a relatively safe place so it would hopefully not get damaged in the crossfire. Literally, guns were blazing. "Go go go go!" He yelled, hopefully damaging the enormous creature.

"...Hngh." It wasn't the most eloquent reaction Rialynn had ever expressed, but there wasn't really time for much else. Her Blue Mage skills were still very rudimentary...as in, she hadn't picked up anything yet. All the job did was let her pick up a sword and use it with some skill.

"Use your Black Magic, then," she said quickly to Mikleo before rushing forward, angling to the side to divide the chimera's attention...something impossible to do considering it had more than enough heads to follow all of them. "I've got a song for that!"

With a flourish, she drew her fiddle and bow, laying it to the strings to begin a lively melody. As she played Time's Scar, which would boost the effectiveness of a Black Mage, she layered the song with the lyrics of Battle Scene to give everyone's stats a 15% boost. So far none of them were hurt, and that was good, but she'd keep an eye on their health just the same so Mikleo could focus on his offensive might instead.

Running out of bolts, Hisui proceeds to ingloriously pummel the beast with his fists over and over and over again until he's thrown out of the way and into a bunch of debris, hopefully not among anything that could puncture skin. "Okay, it's up to you guys!"
