A Whole New World (Of Escape Rooms)
Who: Aoi ‘Santa’ Kurashiki, OPEN
What: A thrilling chase, a wondrous place…where characters are now locked up until they puzzle their way out. Don’t worry. This is fun. This is what fun looks like.
When: In the later part of Feb, before Apocalyptic stuff starts going down.
Where: Aqures Ixen, an abandoned building.
[The letter Santa sent to the various Heroes of Light directed them to a building in the Sixth District, still in shambles from the Empire’s attack. The building in question seemed sturdy enough to enter, but showed signs of obvious disrepair. A perfect place to have a fun-filled evening.
He had been tinkering off and on inside for a few months, just to give himself something to focus on. And if he’d made all these puzzles anyways, there didn’t seem any reason not to test them out. It might be good practice for some of the Heroes on how to use their brains. Besides, he wasn’t forcing anyone into itthis time. It was all strictly volunteer basis, the people who thought this kinda thing was fun.
When enough Heroes assembled, he stood up in front of the doors to the building.]
Ok, chumps, here’s the deal. You’re gonna go in, and I’m gonna lock the doors. There’s a bunch of puzzles inside with the keys you need to get out. There’s clues to help ya out if you need, and I’ll let you call me in for a hint three times. Other than that, you get out when you solve the puzzles. Simple as that. I don’t wanna hear any whining, ‘kay?
[A people person, Aoi Kurashiki was not. Let the games begin.]

[
It's only obvious if you knew to look at those words, Jaune. He nods in thanks as he takes the tool, unaware of the symbol on it, and begins to unscrew the black box by the snake.]no subject
[ Mikleo was listening to the words being said and even though he didn't understand what Haiku was, the words somehow made him think about it like that. ]
If it is not 1, 2, and 4 then we are possibly looking at the combos being some sort order of those numbers. In such cases we can try:
1, 2, 4
1, 4, 2
2, 4, 1
2, 1, 4
4, 1, 2
4, 2, 1

When the name placards are placed above the various cages, they seem to click into place. They can no longer be removed. Nothing else happens in that section of the room.
When Jaune opens the black metal box beneath the Scorpion's pedestal, he will find a puzzle piece and three wires that seem to be powering the mechanical scorpion. The wires are red, blue, and yellow.
The locked locker swings open on the first combination from Mikleo’s list that K’pandolu puts in. Seems that Dr. O. Lion wasn't the cleverest person. When the door opens, the Leo symbol lights up. Inside of the locker is a puzzle piece and a pair of wire cutters.]

In any case, she's taking note of who did what that did what. Like the Sagittarius being lit up by the screwdriver, and she is not at all surprised about the Leo symbol being lit up by opening Dr. O Lion's locker.
Instead she's looking at the puzzle-piece, and going to compare that to the others. See if any kind of progress and/or sense can be made of them yet.]
I know they say in movies it's always the red wire, but movies can be wrong. And it'd be JUST like him to know we're assuming that.
[Which means he might've also made it the red one, just to mess with them, as she shoots a grin at Santa. But they don't have enough information yet, she thinks, to figure out which one to cut so she's open for more information.]
no subject
Don't worry. The solution to every puzzle is going to be in the room somewhere. You won't have to take cliches into consideration. It's just a matter of finding the right clue.
[She's handling the beakers of base fluid, examining the measurements. 3 ml and 5 ml are both odd, and they only need 4 ml. A little silent math...]
If you add five and three, that equals eight. And half of that is four! So if we fill each cup only halfway, that should get us the four milliliters we need for the antivenom recipe, right?

[He'll give it a shot if he has to.
He blanches when he sees the wires. This is not his area.]
There's also some wires over here? I'm not sure how that helps us, though, unless cutting them kills the scorpion?
[Not that he knows which ones to cut.]
no subject
I'll have a look at the wires I guess, but yeah, there's probably a clue in here. I doubt we're supposed to just pick one at random.
[ And somehow the red one feels too obvious....which doesn't actually help discount it.]
What about the puzzle? What does it look like it's showing?

On the other side, the message so far reads:
“Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had...
I think I know...
To say that fo...
Is also...
And wou...”
[Scribbled below it, messily]
"So, first fi...
Thunder doesn’t..."
Santa raises an eyebrow at Akane's suggestion. It's not the most precise way to do it, though he does not speak up about it. No hints unless he's asked. Those are the rules that he made up.]

[Lydia's eyes widen as she's reading the words on the other side of the puzzle, and trying to recall.]
Robert Frost! Oh, how did the rest of it go?
[Chewing on the end of her pen, before scribbling down the first verse, to help her remember the second.]
“Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice."
Guys? I think I have it. I hope I have it. I know the second part dealt with ice. And going on the scribbles below, it's likely we go Fire, then Ice, like in the poem--but Thunder doesn't something. Doesn't work maybe?
no subject
Huh? That's not it? Hrm...
[She'll have to think about this. She looks at the cups again, rifling through possible formulas in her head. Then the answer does hit her, and she feels silly.]
Oh, that's right. We can pour the solution into the 5 ml cup, then use that to fill the 3 ml cup. That leaves just 2 ml of liquid, which we pour into the empty beaker. If we do it twice, then we'll get our 4 ml!
[Ha, take that, morphogenetic fields that she can't access!]
no subject
Back to Lydia.]
So... you think we should cut the red then the blue, but not touch the yellow?
[Assuming, of course, that she's recalling the poem correctly and it relates to the wires. It makes sense with the colors, but who knows?]
Does anyone even have anything to cut them with?
[He could try to use his sword if he has to, but that's probably not the smartest idea.]
no subject
K'pandolu looks over at Akane, ears up.]
That's pretty clever.
[She turns towards Lydia, ears up, curious.]
I don't think I've heard that one before. I wonder… Both of those lead to destruction, right? Should we take that to mean they'll work to our purpose, or against them?
[she takes the wire cutters, holding them so the others can see.] These look as though they should be fit for the task.

[ He puts a hand under his chin as things were set into motion. While he was looking around everyone seemed to have solved some of the puzzles already. Everyone seemed to have grasped the situation better than he did since their knowledge in technology and other worldly poetry seemed more logical int his situation. ]

As the Heroes use the wire cutters on the red and then blue wire, the Cancer sign lights. Once both have been snipped, there is an anticlimactic moment of silence...and then, the mechanical scorpion's tail slumps and the lights in its eyes dim. Something falls out from beneath the figure. It's the Scorpio Key!
And thanks to the fact that the Heroes did not cut the yellow wire, the scorpion's self-destruct feature does not activate, and no Heroes are harmed. This is a safe and fun game with no small bombs hidden anywhere. Just good, old fashioned, non-murder puzzles here.]
no subject
Looks like we're making good progress here.
[He looks around at the other puzzles, trying to piece things together.]
Stop the scorpion...but we still need to save the ram with the antidote I guess?
[At first he thought the whole thing would lead to shutting the scorpion down but clearly there was more than one part to all of this. He goes back to inspect the snakes, to try to figure out what putting all the labels in their proper place might have unlocked. Or maybe it was something that would need to be taken in context with some other puzzle's solution.]
(ooc: what else do we need to solve left?)
Jaune is the new master of unlocking
I've got a key if any needs anything... unlocked.
[As if that weren't self-explanatory.
He checks the door, making sure they haven't missed a key-hole in that area and that there really is just a card reader in that area.]
be the keymaster
[actually, let her go see if that's possible.]
no subject
[Which means someone has to stick their hand into a glass box with some poisonous snakes.]
[Someone.]
[...]
Mikleo, would you mind letting me talk the pill puzzle through with you? I want to make sure I've got the theory right before using the scales, since we only get three tries before the scale breaks.
[Brave hero Akane is not, no snakes please.]
no subject
Pinkie and Sue you said, Akane?
[Confirming, before Lydia is reaching out to grab the containers with the antidotes. She might be smiling, and talking to the snakes while doing so. "Hey there Pinkie, Hey Sue. I hope you guys were treated well for this. I definitely appreciate you helping us have some fun though."]
no subject
Jaune can look by the door, but as of yet, no keyhole has been revealed.
K'pandolu's search of the ram does not yield any obvious places to administer the antidote as of yet. There is still a seam at the ram's mouth.
With the antidote 2/3rds done, only the pills still need to be added. Time to get working with that scale.]
no subject
They're putting up with us pretty well.
[she tilts her head towards Akane, one ear twitching.] How is the scale doing?
[…why is it that shaky, even.]
