Summary: The first phase of endgame begins! The Heroes of Light are on their way to deal with Garland as they’ve left their unfinished businesses in the hands of their friends amongst the NPCs. [Cloud hears Jaune before he sees him, and it's not just the voice he finds familiar. A sad sort of smile creeps across Cloud's face as he rounds a corner to find the newer Hero's slouching spot.]

Hey there...you okay?

[It's a silly question, but it's polite to ask first. But he also remembers how Jaune took to that other flight. Once is just an occurrence. Twice starts to reveal a pattern.]

[Jaune's eyes snap open when he hears Cloud. He does his best to put on a smile, but it's shaky at best, obviously not genuine.]

Me? Yeah, I'm great. We're on an airship to hopefully not die in our battle against Garland, but it's great. Everything's -

[The ship lurches ever so slightly, but it's enough to make Jaune turn ten times paler.]

-great.

[There's a small sense of deja vu in this moment. Or maybe vuja de. He was dreading the trip to Nibelheim so long ago because he knew he would get sick in front of not just Zack, but Sephiroth too. And Yuffie once mentioned something about him giving her advice in her own timeline.

Maybe there was something to it.

With a sigh he turns and leans against the wall, staring out the window as the clouds stream by.]

Well, at least we're all going off to hopefully not die together, right? Well, maybe not Jack, but hopefully he'll not try anything stupid this time. [Loss of the ability to come back to life aside he's pretty sure Jack learned his lesson last time.]

But if the stuff I've read is true, if you're sick now then you're not as nervous as you could be. But maybe if you get up and move around it'll help. Stretch a bit.

[Jaune lets out an only slightly hysterical laugh.]

Oh no, I'm plenty nervous. I've never actually been in a real fight before. Monsters, yeah. But villains? They don't really cover that in school.

[Stretching sounds terrible, but fresh air sounds great. He claws at the wall and tries to raise himself up, clearly off-balance.]

I mean, as much as I want to say we're going to win we can't know that. And I don't know about you, but I don't think I could bring myself to kill anyone.

[He's really struggling with this whole standing up thing.]

[Cloud can understand. Monsters are...well...monsters. They're animals, and they're scary and most of them want to eat you. But people. People can be reasoned with. People are other people who grew up being told not to hurt people. And then there you are in the slums with guns pointed at each other over anything from ideology to desperate theft. And even when it's in self defense killing another person never comes easy.

He leans over, offering Jaune a hand to his feet.]

You can lean on me if you need to. But yeah, I know what you mean. If you don't think you can, don't worry about it. There's enough of us here to take the front line if you want to play defense or support.

[If Jaune is keen he'll notice Cloud dodged the implied question.]

[Jaune gratefully takes the hand, giving Cloud a weak smile as a thanks as he stumbles up. It's a good thing he offered to have Jaune lean on him because that's exactly what he was getting whether he wanted it or not; Jaune's really not doing so hot at the moment.

He nods into Cloud's shoulder at the tactics talk. He might have realized what Cloud did if he were in a more clear mindset. Right now his focus is mostly "don't throw up on Cloud."]

Maybe. I'll probably try to stick close to Pyrrha. We're a team.

[And he's still a little paranoid about losing her. But if he sees anyone that needs a shield he'll be there for them, too.]

[Few people ever want the dead weight of an airsick armored warrior on them, but Cloud was willing to take it. He'd been as much to others before and paying it forward was the right thing to do.

Gently he started shuffling along, taking Jaune somewhere that the rumbling of the ship might be a bit less intense.]

That's a good plan. She's been a great help to us this whole time. I'm sure she's happy to have one of her teammates from home here to fight by her side.

[Jaune lets Cloud lead them; he has no idea where they're going, and frankly, he doesn't care.

He smiles a little as the topic turns to Pyrrha.]

Yeah, she's pretty great. What'd she do before I got here?

[They'd been so focused on her future that they never really talked about her past.]

[Cloud furrowed his brow. The two didn't cross paths that often but he still saw her from time to time. There were the fights they got into as Heroes against their big enemies but he had a feeling that wasn't what Jaune was fishing for.]

She joined the Aqures Ixen blitzball team. I think she's still with them. She was really good in the games I saw."

[Well that certainly wasn't the answer he had been expecting. He's assuming blitzball is a sport since it has the word "ball" in it.]

Really? I didn't peg her as the sports type. Just the kick ass type. [Unless blitzball is a fighting game, in which case it makes more sense.] What's she do there?

"Well, it IS a full contact sport. Also swimming. It's been a while so." He frowned as he tried to remember her position. "I think she's either a forward or defense. I know that doesn't narrow it down much. Sorry. But she's good."

[ Jaune starts to nod before realizing what a mistake that is, stumbling a little. Man, airships were the worst. ]

Wait, so it's a game in the water? Is it like water polo?

[ He just has to focus on anything that isn't where he is and it'll be fine. Like Pyrrha in a swimsuit.

...Yeah, that's not helping. ]

[Cloud nods. He also doesn't have the heart to tell Jaune that blitzball is not really a swimsuit sport.]

Kinda. I guess it compares to soccer? Or maybe a bit rougher because there's tackling and stuff. But it's all done underwater. The players can hold their breath or get rebreathers. It's weird but it's fun to watch.

[You're a good man, Cloud.]

Sounds it. We should go see a game once this is all over. [Assuming they're alive, that is.] One of Pyrrha's. [Unless.] ...The audience doesn't have to watch from above, right? [please no more airships]

[Cloud chuckles and nods. He's happy Jaune's thoughts are off the flight, mostly, and also of what they're setting out to do.]

No, not above. Well, unless we get the nosebleed seats I guess. And in that case it's just steep stairs.

[Nosebleed seats..?]

The audience gets hurt in this game? That really doesn't sound safe. [Yeah, you could say his attention was elsewhere.] But if they're the seats that will let me see Pyrrha the best...

[He'd just have to make sure he brought his shield to protect him from any balls that might fly his way.]

[Jaune. Really?]

What? No! I mean, like, the seats are so high up you get a nosebleed from the altitude. It's a joke...those stairs can be pretty steep though.

Oh. [Well. He feels dumb now ~~story of his life~~.] Yeah, that makes sense. I'd rather not, though, so maybe we could grab some lower seats?
