So can we find out?
Characters: Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca and Genesis Rhapsodos
Where: The small cafe on the border of the 10th/11th Districts
When: December 12th
Summary: Genesis needs to have a chat and only wants to speak to Ashe about it.
Warning: None
They never did quite set up a specific time to meet, but Genesis didn't mind. She wanted some time to think before having her talk with Ashe. She never quite thought she would even need to seek advice for this sort of thing, as she thought she had it squared away. And perhaps she does, to an extent. She had spoken to Sephiroth, had become very close to the other Genesis, and Angeal was treating her no differently than he would her other self. It was refreshing but at the same time, quite maddening. These were her friends, but they were not hers. Although, that applied to only Angeal and Sephiroth as she regarded Gen like a brother she never had and would love to have. She didn't know what to do, really. Especially in regards to Angeal.
It was no secret that she had harbored a crush for her childhood friend for some time. But over the last few years of chaos, it was pretty obvious she was a bad choice for him. The way she had treated him, used him, manipulated him, and for what? So he couldn't go to Sephiroth and Zack even after they, too, had defected? It was dumb and mean on her part and, now that she was not effected by degradation, she could see it clearly. But this Angeal did not go through what the same trials that her Angeal did, he wasn't the one she grew up with. So why the hell were these feelings returning? No, she knew why, because it was as if nothing had happened. They were moving on with their lives, in a way ShinRa would have never allowed. But that didn't stop her from realizing that this was not her Angeal that she was developing a crush for all over again.
What was she suppose to do now?

What was she suppose to do now?

A waiter came with a basket of bread, but she waved him off. "More wine. Water as well." The poor waiter nodded, retreating hastily to fetch the wine.

While she wasn't in a wine mood, she would gladly take the water when it arrived. She broke off a piece of the bread. "What are you researching?"
no subject
She glanced at her paperwork, eyebrows once again furrowed. "Property law, to be frank. I'm looking into making an acquisition." The plans were still in their beginning stages, though, and given their history, Ashelia wasn't sure Genesis would be too into the queen looking to start and most likely lead the closest thing to an 'official' Heroes' organization there could be. There was also every chance she wouldn't succeed; it was for both these reasons she stopped there.
She pulled a small plate over, uncorking a small bottle of oil and pouring some onto the plate. "Now, it has been quite some time since we've spoken. What is it you would like to speak on? Happenings at the Magitek Facility? Aqures Tosf?"

"Ah, yes, it has," Genesis nodded, pausing for a moment to try and decide how to even start this. They didn't exactly leave on the best of terms, but Genesis didn't dislike the Queen either. "Not necessarily. More about the people from the parallel world to my own. It's odd, I suppose, a lot lonelier than I imagined to have those who look and sound exactly like those that I know. And I constantly forget that, in the end, they are not the same people I grew up with."
She paused again to lightly pick at the bread, nodding silently to the waiter who left glasses of water and a bottle of wine, wine glasses as well. "My roommate is now gone as well. Angeal treats me as though I am the Genesis he grew up with, even with that very same Genesis here. That Genesis treats me like a sister, which is... well, it's nice. I never had a sibling before. Sephiroth still seems to be unused to my presence although I don't blame him, we hardly spoke since we first arrived. And yet, the entire time I find myself unsure if I should continue with their friendship. I feel like an outsider but they seem intent to keep me in the loop and..."
Should she even mention her developing romantic feelings? She wasn't sure and stopped there. "I'm not sure if you are the right person but I'm not sure anyone would understand. I just want to talk about it to someone."
And Ashelia was someone she knew would be fairly objective.

She shifted in her seat, uncomfortable. She hadn't even been dwelling on her own emotional state since arriving in Crystallis. At moments, it had threatened to surface and rear its head - such as when she lashed out at Link in that bar - but she had generally been focusing on moving forward, not letting any of it catch up with her. The search for the seeds, the expedition to Aqures Tosf, even her current goal of setting up a Heroes' Guild, it was all an effort to resist looking back and really taking it all in. Looking at it that way, it was better that she was here alone. With nothing to remind her of Ivalice except her wedding ring and Balthier's note, she could continue on like usual. If any of her companions should appear beside that crystal...
The queen took a breath, shaking her head. "Sephiroth is dealing with the ramifications of his actions on the Night of the Thirteen Moogles. You needn't read into his reclusiveness. As for the others...I see no reason to refuse their kindness. Unless their presence has made the separation from your own homeland more difficult." Oh god, feelings.

She stopped again, closing her eyes to take a breath. When it seemed she calmed a bit, she continued. "I was sick, back home. Very sick. It affected my temper, my emotions... I wasn't rational and I was... I was a terrible person. To Angeal and Sephiroth and I can never forgive myself now that I am healed, now that I can think clearly again. But these two are not them and it is... very hard to forget that."
Genesis didn't believe she deserved their friendship, even when they had no experience with her. But Angeal was seemingly content with being her friend, largely due to the fact that she kept her past to herself. He had enough to deal with Gen and his own degradation and consequences because of it. With Sephiroth as well. "I don't want to push them away but I don't know if I..."
She stopped when she realized her lips were quivering and tears were threatening to fall, blurring her vision. She bit her lip and looked up and away from Ashelia to try and mitigate while she gathered her thoughts.

The queen took a quick sip of her wine. It looked like, to her at least, that Genesis was going through much the same thing Sephiroth was. Their situations were both complicated and unique, for lack of a better word, in their own ways, but there it was. "Perhaps you should focus your efforts elsewhere then. Spending so much time in the city, around them so consistently, 'twould be hard to separate them so from the men know you."
She shifted in her seat, attempting to meet Genesis' gaze. "You are healed; a miracle in itself, from what little I know. Perhaps your next step should be to adjust to that. Come to an understanding within yourself about how you acted, what you did. Then, turn your attention to the outside."

"But I'm not sure I can leave," Genesis furrowed her brow, finally looking up to meet Ashe's eyes. She had a reasonable idea, but she really didn't know if she could keep away from her friends. Well, the doubles of her friends. It was hard to think about. And it was something Genesis would need awhile to consider.
"I suppose you're right. I don't believe I can leave the city, though, I would rather hold off on traveling until I am more sure of myself. But the city is big, I can try and find ways to distract myself."
But did she really want to was the question. She knew she wouldn't be able to stay away, not with how persistent Angeal and Gen were to include her as much as possible.

She looked out into the street, nodding slowly. "By nature, distance grants perspective. There are a great many mysteries that await us here in Crystallis." The queen brought her gaze back to Genesis squarely, forehead calm but eyes full of encouragement. "The least of which lie within ourselves, I'm sure."
