The Fete at the Observatory

Characters: All (hopefully) uncaptured Heroes of Light
Where/When: At the Heroes' Observatory, the evening of February 10th
Summary: Ashelia has called a meeting - under the guise of a party - to discuss the next steps forward for the Heroes following the revelations revealed in the shared dream.
Warnings: N/A
Note: Each part of Ashelia's speech is centred around a different topic. Feel free to indicate what in particular your character is responding to in the headline for your top level! Alternately, if your character is bringing up something on their own, or not in direct reply to something Ashelia has mentioned, feel free to out the subject in the Subject line! There's a lot going on and a lot of ground to cover, so let's keep it organized so things are easy to find later!

"I would like your attention, please." With her experience as an accomplished politician, Ashelia's voice cut through the din of the gathered Heroes. The high ceiling of the meeting room lent itself well to the sorts of echoes that could easily cause headaches, unfortunately. The Queen planned to bring in some fabrics to soften the effects, but there had been little time for decorating, and it seemed there wouldn't be anytime soon.

The Lady Ashelia stood at the head of the incredibly large wooden table that dominated a good chunk of the room. Wooden chairs lined the edges of the tables, straight-backed and unfortunately not cushioned. It was clear that the Queen of Dalmasca didn't want anyone getting too comfortable in this particular room. There were papers in front of her, books and file folders and ledgers, all organized into neat piles. She picked up one of the papers, clearing her throat quietly before continuing. "If as many of you as possible could take a seat, I can call this meeting to order - and yes, I would like to apologize.

"As you may have guessed, this is not a fete. It is important for everyone to know..." Ashelia paused, waiting for the last straggling voices to quiet down before continuing, "that Mognet has been compromised. There is no longer such a thing as private correspondence, if ever there was. Keep this in mind in the coming months. The war has begun."

Ashelia paused for questions and comments before continuing.

"As many of us have realized, and Markus observed earlier over Mognet, the usual appearance of new Heroes of Light at the Crystal of Fire around the fifth of each month did not occur. This disturbance of the established cycle may seem abrupt, but upon further examination, 'tis not so." The Queen took a sip of water. "The cycle has been disturbed previously, though not in such a drastic manner. Last month, crystal statues appeared and disappeared within the hour. Heroes awakened from the crystal stasis were unceremoniously dropped from the sky. So you see, this disturbance has simply progressed. I welcome your thoughts on this."

Ashelia paused for questions and comments before continuing.

"Next on my agenda is the true motivation behind my calling this gathering. The night of February 5th, I had a dream." She stopped, shaking her head. "No, a vision. It did not take me long to realize I was not the only one to experience this. I've written the contents here." Ashelia held up a file folder. "However, if I am correct, many of you need only read it to refresh your memory." She stopped for a moment, putting the folder back on the table. "The ramifications of this new information are clear. The Empire holds four of our number captive, as well as countless other displaced Heroes in crystal stasis. It is my belief we must act on this information. We must save them."

Ashelia paused for questions and comments before continuing.

"The last subject I would like to cover is this." She held up a small, worn notebook. "This is the diary of the Lady Kalki, one of the Empire's Triumvirate. This woman, more than any other, has made clear her intentions are in opposition to us as a group. I encourage everyone to read through this document." Ashelia put the notebook down on the table and held up another file folder. "I have written a transcription myself, as the original is quite delicate." She put the file folder down. "This document provides invaluable insight into whom we can only assume is our enemy. It , unfortunately, poses more questions than it answers, but it does make clear that it is she who holds the answers that we need."

Ashelia took another sip of water, looking around at the gathered Heroes. "I once again open the floor to questions and comments. I believe it will take all of us to rescue our comrades; however, I also believe that if we do work together as one, we shall not fail."

Cloud strokes his chin as he listens to all of this. With all the talk of infiltration he hasn't really had much to offer, but then again now that he thought of it. "I wonder. If I get a good helmet to cover my face, I could probably pose as one of their soldiers." The gunblade he had was something he got after their first encounter with the Imperials. "Maybe I can sneak into their number during the parade?"

"It's getting past the boarder that will be an issue. Some of us have invitations unless you think you can sneak aboard the air ship taking us over." Yuna watched Cloud curiously.

She didn't doubt his ability but she worried he was thinking to far ahead. Moving around inside of the state and getting in are two different problems.

"If it's invitations you're getting in with, maybe we could make more of them?" Fayt had been absorbing all the talk so far, considering options. Rushing in guns blazing would get them crushed, but if they could expand the numbers they could sneak in, they'd have a larger chance of having sufficient force to get people out, at least. Too few people might not be enough to pull off a rescue, too many would make things difficult in their own way, but if they got just a few more people past the border...

"Forgery, I mean. If it's official papers, we might be able to make some passable forgeries with time and the right materials and inks."

moving this over here I swear I know what I'm doing

[Chiaki can sympathize with Hibiki a little here. She's hardly a 'real' anything herself, let alone a hero or warrior, but there is one thing she's good at: playing games. It's probably worth tossing in her two cents on this one.]

That's a good idea. They have Triple Triad tournaments there too, and I'm ranked highly enough to compete at the international level. I don't know if anyone else keeps up with the game that much, but I might be able to bring one or two people along with me. Between that, Hibiki's troupe, and the blitzball team, we might be able to get a lot of people down there at the right time under the cover of being there for other things.

Um...forgeries is a bit out of my league...but I can ask and see if there are official papers or not!

[She laughs nervously, trying not to think too much on that. There's a real need to get people there, but forgery is a crime...! She's still thinking like that.]

Mm, that's good, though! I bet you could tell someone that they're your assistants or somethin'! Like, "Hey, these guys carry my cards for me!" or "These guys are my bodyguards!" ...Do Triple Triad players have anything like that?

"Do card players have that kind of entourage....? Maybe someone can pose as a personal assistant? Someone who keeps their schedule?"

I guess really rich and eccentric ones might. But it might be better to go with the personal assistant angle.

Y-yeah. That's what I was thinking. [No, she was clearly thinking of something much more grand.] As long as we get people in, that's the important thing.

"Yeah...." Hm. He glances over to Hibiki, mulling something over. Maybe....

Well, it'd worked once.

"Hey, you said you were with an acting troupe right? Do you think you might be able to sneak some people along as stagehands? Techs? Hired help?" He didn't feel right, just sitting around. If he could help out in any way possible....

"I'm good with technology. I've actually posed as an engineer once before, when I was stranded somewhere and couldn't let on where I was from. I might be able to do it again."

Yuna had been listening off to the side unsure about this plan. She knew some about how the invitations would be sent out and they were very particular.

"You have to be known in the field to get invitations. We might be able to copy them but they will suspect something if there is suddenly a new troupe of hero actors."

"I dunno, I think it'll be fine! I think the invitation is addressed to our troupe, not to any one person in particular, y'know?"

At least, that's how she hopes it is.

She turns to Fayt next. "I think it'd be alright if you wanna come...but if worse comes to worse, I'm gonna have to hide you in with the props! It'll all be alright somehow!"
