Moving On

Characters: Link and Zelda
Where: Zelda's House
When: Backdated to just before things began with the Shopkeeper's Daughter
Summary: Considering that they'd lived in rooms side-by-side for years in the academy, it makes sense for the two of them to share a house.. right?
Warnings: The sort of fluff that makes marshmallows look like mud. Might need an insulin shot after this.

Link had been spending a great deal of his time with Zelda since arriving in this strange new world. Finally having the time to sit and discuss with her, many of their days had been spent reminiscing over their home, how she'd fallen from the sky and met Impa, as well as all the fantastical things that Link had experienced and encountered. Stories of monsters and fights with steel and shield made for good conversation over lunch and dinner, yet it wasn't the stories that kept Link coming back to her.

They'd been sitting with one another like any other day, laughing back and forth while catching themselves staring at one another. It was something that Link had been deliberating for a few days, wondering it it would be too forward an idea. Given how long they've known one another, and the circumstances of their lives in Hyrule, it would be best for them to remain as close as possible.

Giving the back of his neck a scratch, the sort of anxious tick he was known for doing in moments such as these, Link spoke with a bit of a rattle to his voice. It's a bit unsteady, the sort of nervousness that came from proposing such a grand idea.

"So.. I've been thinking about something. Er-.. Well, more like a "when thing" than a "some thing".

Zelda's cheeks were a rosy shade of pink from laughter. Link always knew how to make her smile and it was like a dream to be able to have these quiet days together. It was like they were carefree kids again only without all the running around.

She brushed a strand of lose hair out of her face and placed it behind her ear. Her eyes watched her childhood friend curiously. They had been talking about so many things and now he seemed nervous. She could usually tell what Link was thinking but this time she was unsure.

"What is it?"

She felt her cheeks flush but she tried to ignore it. She couldn't deny that it made sense for them to stay close together and that way she could keep an eye on him. "I think that would be a great idea."

Zelda's eyes scanned the room. "Who's house?" She hasn't been inside of Link's house yet and wasn't sure what condition it was in.

"You wouldn't be imposing." She shook her head with a smile. Her cheeks felt warm but she didn't let that stop her from showing how excited she was by the idea.

Zelda reached out and placed one of her hands on his. "I'd love to have you here."

Zelda's smile grew at his admissions. "Your so lazy but don't worry I'll wake you up."

She will try and keep up the house work but she might bug him if he starts getting too lazy. She wasn't sure how many people they would put in each house but there was plenty of room for the two of them.

Zelda felt heat rise to her cheeks as she stammered. "Of-Of course its fine."

She hadn't really thought about having people over or anyone she might like. All she knew is that she wanted Link to be close. "It might be hard living with me because of the same reasons. Are you sure you want too? I mean, I want you too but..." Her eyes looked down a moment, she was usually more eloquent but his comment had caught her off guard.

She tried to collect her thoughts and waited a moment in silence as the warmth in her cheeks faded. She had always thought that Link was amazing from the day that he impressed his red Loftwing. It was obvious to most that she thought highly of him, even if he was sometimes lazy.

She realized his duty was to protect her, he was a knight after all.

Zelda gave him a nod and smiled. "Of course. Do you need help getting your things?"

"Yes, your bedroom would be across the hall from mine. When would you like to move? I was thinking of cooking something special for dinner." She didn't mind him moving things on his own, it would give her time to make some pumpkin soup as a special surprise dinner.

"Let me worry about food for now and you worry about moving. After that we can take each thing one at a time." Her smile didn't waver as she rose from the couch and moved over towards the mantle. She slid a key from it's dusty spot and into her hand.

"Here. This is your home too." She tossed the key at him with a smile. Zelda didn't ever lock the house when she was home but it felt like giving him the key made things official.
