Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Within an instant, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you knew it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, your world vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see. Even you feel different: all the powers you might once have had, are now gone. It is silent, cold and it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you.
At this moment, when it looks as though nothing but a never-ending void awaits you, a red Crystal forms before you. In this void, its warmth compels you to grab it. Upon doing so, you can hear a soft, soothing voice speaking:
"Wake up."
Soon, the void itself vanishes and is replaced by distant noises of engines. Had it all been nothing more than a dream? The soothing voice repeats its call one more time, but is soon replaced with a much less graceful "Wake up Kupo," the call of the Moogle finally waking you up. But you are no longer in your world, nor in the void. You are before the Crystal of Fire, in the third district of a city called Aqures Ixen. At this point, you may realize the engine noise actually originates from an Airship flying low over the city and headed to the castle. As if it wasn't strange enough, your clothes have changed as well. They are now a reflection of the Jobs you are wielding. Last but not least, you are surrounded by Moogles, small and fluffy creatures who are more than happy to tell you about everything you want to know, about your 'destiny' as a Hero of Light, about what awaits you.
Or at least, they will tell you everything they do know, which isn't much in the end.
The only people around you are like you-- There are quite a few of them, all clothed in their Job garbs and most likely wondering what is happening. If somehow you do not realize it, the Moogle who woke you up will be more than happy to inform you there are others like you around. In fact, there are other Heroes who arrived these past months too and they will come soon! Like you, they had Jobs and a Crystal-- Wait, you don't have a Crystal...? That's weird.
Your Moogle will be puzzled by this fact, as all Heroes of Light are supposed to have a crystal with them. Well, maybe you are not a Hero of Light after all?
The Other Heroes
— Shortly Thereafter —
Thanks to the efficiency of Mognet, it does not take long for the other Heroes to come around: those who arrived in this world one or two months ago. You may have imagined heroic and charismatic figures when your Moogle told you that there were other Heroes of Light in this city. You may have imagined persons with fearsome powers worthy of being revered as heroes. And more importantly, you may have imagined them as people who would have all the answers to your, doubtlessly, numerous questions.
If so, you may be up for a minor disappointment. Still, for the most part they know more than you on the situation and may be more than happy to fill you in, especially if your Moogle didn't tell you much.
The Night of the Thirteen Moogles
— Anytime —
Something that may be obvious, is that the city has a spooky feel to it. There are various decorations, it clearly looks like a work in progress but it seems the idea is to make the city looks as scary as possible. Characters familiar with Halloween may recognize the decoration as being strikingly similar. The Moogles will be more than pleased to explain these are all preparations for the upcoming Night of the Thirteen Moogles on the 31st, and they will explain the legends to characters if they ask.
Hopefully all this talk of curse and King Moggle Mog is nothing more than legend.
The City of Aqures Ixen
— Anytime —
There are a lot of things left to do in the city, especially with everyone excited for the upcoming celebration. Starting from 18:00, a series of BLitzball games will take place at the stadium located in the tenth district, opposing amateur teams in a friendly competition. At the same time, a small group of Triple Triad players are playing before Mognet Office in the ninth district, and they are more than happy to teach the rule to anyone passing by. Characters are free to enter and play games of Triple Triad, and if they do so they will be given very basic cards and explained the rules. This may be the start of a promising career!
Characters are also free to visit the city-- Be it Mognet Office just behind the Triple Triad games is filled with very busy Moogles, or the Airship Port in the twelfth district from where characters can board for free Airships from Shoopuf Airline, knowing the next airship departing from Aqures Ixen will do so on the 9th. Still, characters can board an exposition Airship should they like and visit it.
Or maybe you could visit your new house in the 11th District, and get to know your new neighbors and housemate. Hopefully your neighbors are people you will get along with.

"My name is Ramza," he replied, not quite certain what to make of this friendly woman, but not wanting to be impolite. "I am indeed newly arrived here. You are another of the Heroes of Light?" he asked.
no subject
Before Ramza can answer, her own companion came fluttering over to her as it clung on her shoulder from behind. Peaking over her frame, the moogle nodded its head in greeting, the many bandages around its paws giving it the grip it needs to hold onto Tifa.
"This is Kupow, my moogle friend. Kupow, this is Ramza. He's a new hero here in the city. Say "hi"!"
The moogle furrows its brows at the other male, gruffly clearing its throat before the pint-sized brawler nods his head in silent greeting.
"Ahh, still not talkin', huh? You'll have to excuse him. He's overly protective for some reason."
What's a tiger?
"I am sure you two make a fine team," Ramza said, nodding back at Kupow. "Your loyalty is a credit to your Hero."
He turned his focus back to Tifa. "Is it true that none of the Heroes know what our true purpose is here?" Not that Simon had phrased it that way, but it seemed that that was the truth of it.
no subject
The moogle retreats back behind her shoulder, plopping down on the ground to hug her leg as it keeps a watchful eye on Ramza and his companion.
"All I can really figure is that something big is happening in this world. I guess they don't have any heroes they can pay or put up to the task."
Bending down, she pats the top of Kupow's head, brushing the fuzzy strands of fur down while she continues to converse with the newcomer.
"I'm guessing you're something of a hero where you come from?"
no subject
Ramza's face reddened at Tifa's next words. "Not exactly," he admitted. "I am a heretic, according to the Church of Glabados." Not wanting to leave it at that and have his newest ally think him untrustworthy, he explained, "The Church is corrupt, and I believe I did the just thing in opposing them, but the truth remains, I am considered a criminal in my home land."
no subject
Stretching her arms over her head, Tifa filled her lungs with the evening air before bringing her arms down with an exhaling sigh.
"Where I'm from, my friends and I are considered enemies of the state. We're wanted terrorists, fighting against a corrupt organization that's trying to bleed our planet dry." She smiles to her new acquaintance, giving him a thumbs up as she laughs softly. "You're in good company. We're 'heroes' now, whether we want to admit it or not. Sorry to hear about your church. I've never been the religious type, but I'm sure your cause is a just one."
no subject
"Thank you. I am glad you and your friends were able to stand against corruption, Lady Tifa. It is not an easy path to tread."
He put a hand to his chin, thinking for a moment. "Do you think that has anything to do with why we were chosen? Could there be corruption within the monarchy that we are meant to oppose?" Ramza spoke hesitantly, as if he was still piecing together the thoughts.
Simon met his musings with a very firm, "No, definitely not, kupo! The queen would never!"
no subject
A slight blush comes to her cheeks as she laughs at the way Ramza addresses her.
"It's possible there's something large going on here. Not sure exactly what, but if this world is looking for some one to save it, then I guess they weren't wrong in pulling the both of us here. I'm not sure what you're capable of, good sir, but I imagine having the courage to stand up against an order like a Church is something this world might need."
Tifa looks to the other moogle, bringing a finger to her own chin as she ponders.
"Has anyone here seen the Queen? I can't vouch for her, but I've only heard little details about her."
no subject
Simon landed on Ramza's shoulder. "The queen is the best, kupo! She loves her country and would never do anything to hurt anyone here, kupo!" He huffed and crossed his little white arms across his chest.
"But you must admit her disappearance is strange," Ramza pointed out to his moogle. He tried to sound neutral about his feelings toward the queen, given the fierce loyalty Simon obviously felt for her.
no subject
Kupow drops off of Tifa's shoulders, dropping to the ground to stand behind her ankles while the two exchange in conversation.
"I'd like to know if anyone has been looking for her. Usually I'm not sitting back so casually when things need to be done, but it's one of those moments where I don't have much else to do. Back home, we'd have figured out a plan and charged in to get to the bottom of things.."
Shaking her head, her hair tosses back behind her as it was held by a single metal clip. Tifa would rather not reflect on the person who she'd been following until her arrival here. Her focus was better turned to the man before her and the efforts that could be made to bring more light to their purpose here.
"Getting settled here and learning as much as you can about this place is priority one. Better you do that than worry about the Queen, at least for now."
no subject
He sighed. "In that interest, could you point me in the direction of 'District 14'? I have lodgings there, Simon says." Establishing his home seemed a good a place as any to start.
no subject
She motions a thumb over her shoulder, tilting her head to the side as she turns on her heels.
"Follow me. I'll lead the way. Most of the Heroes are living in the same area as one another, so you're one the way back home."
no subject
"It has been some time since I stayed in something other than an inn or a camp. I wonder what I am to do with a house," he mused, almost to himself. "I'd think it would be more efficient to establish a barracks for the Heroes, but I suppose the city expects us to earn our keep when this Calamity strikes."
no subject
"The housing isn't the most glamorous of situations, but I can guarantee it's better than any barrack or encampment. I'm just happy to have a roof over my head, especially if this world is anything like back home. I don't know how much longer we have until we're in the dead of winter or worse."
Kupow flutters close behind her, punching at the air as he begins to shadow-box in mid flight.
"So, what are your friends like back home, Ramza? Is there a lady in your life? A childhood friend?"
