((OOC: This is basically freeform exploration of the inside of Stiltzkin's Castle.  Each group will have its own subthread to roleplay exploring the castle.  Anything significant in the way of monsters to fight, treasure to loot, or information to find will be explained by the mods if any of the groups happen to look in the right places.  As for the mechanics of the Castle, physical attack power and Job levels are reversed inside - for example, White Mages will be as physically strong as the more combat-oriented Jobs.  As far as Job levels are concerned, it's essentially 12 months minus the amount you actually have in the Job.  So anyone at an Initial level would be considered to have the Job mastered, and everything in between - if you're 3 months in, treat your character as 9 months in.  Higher level techniques will be weaker than lower leveled ones.  All of this information has been made public to the characters venturing into the Castle, so assume that everyone on the expedition knows about that.  Any questions that aren't covered here should be directed to the mods.))

[The chest opens and...

Out comes a chimera! Finally revealed from its hiding location, the lion lets out a terrifying roar before one of the snake heads attacks the party with Aqua Breath.]

Levy's using Libra - can I get a mod comment with weaknesses so she can tell people this turn?

A monster...!

[Levy's cry is partially drowned out by the gurgly sounds of Aqua Breath going off, but oddly she finds herself far more resilient than she had normally expected. The effect of being a relatively low level Scholar / Black Mage combo, apparently.]

I'll scan its weakness! Everyone, get ready!

[Using Libra, Levy looks close to try to see if she can discern anything the chimera might be weak to. If she finds anything, she'll shout it out to the rest of the group so they can make use of it.]

[The scan reads that this chimera does not have any elemental weaknesses, and it should be highly resistant to physical attacks.]

"Then, let us go," Tazendra had her own sword out and she advanced, looking for trouble. Better to make sure each room was empty before they looked for more than monsters.

H-hang on! I have an idea!

[Ib takes a step back and casts Copies, creating illusory versions of each of her friends.]

Now it won't know who to attack.

Most likely. Treasures are always fun to get~

[ Castles always have secrets passages and things right? At least, according to Selen's ow knowledge of castles. She was ready to do a lot of hunting for information and for something fun to take back as a souvenir. ]

I'm quite fond of gathering any useful information that can assist us in completing our tasks here. Hmm. I'm not quite sure, though we could ask them, unfortunately, I don't know if we can find them to ask or if they're willing to share.

Jade and Anise!

[As the group goes deeper into the castle, Anise finds herself drifting towards the back of the group. Eventually, she starts hovering near Jade.]

[She's got a look on her face that makes it pretty clear there's something that she really wants to say, but she's avoiding the topic. In fact, she's avoiding talking at all. Given recent events, it's probably not hard to figure out what she wants to talk about, or why she'd be hesitant to bring it up. Still, it doesn't make her behavior seem any less strange.]

Oh no!

[Robin lifts a hand up and falls on an old standby: in this case, Thunder. A bolt of lightning drops down, shooting towards the Chimera!]

Robin!

[And Tsubomi joins in on the Thunder spam, though her Chocobo does the more sensible thing and try to pull Robin out of its reach.]

Olivier doesn't follow along right behind the group, but gives them a few feet of space so that she can listen to what is going on behind them.

When she see a door coming up to their left, she closes the gap.

"I will stand guard while you search. We should agree on a signal in case there is trouble inside the room or out here. Whistles tend to be a good signal," she suggests, and gives a long, but quiet whistle in example.

"It would be louder of course, but no need to draw attention right now."

[The chimera is unfettered by the copies and twists its head to aim its breath at the entire group.

When the Thunder spell hits, it staggers and stops its attack.]

[Levy winces sharply, expecting to be hit with another spell, when the monster abruptly stops. Opening her eyes, she blinks in confusion, but decides it's best to capitalize on the momentary distraction.]

I think we stunned it! Keep going! Capture it if you can - Ashe said the arena is still missing one of these!

[And in the spirit of continuing to beat the monster back, Levy flips open the book she uses with her Scholar Job, casting a Flare spell at the great beast. If her reasoning holds, even though it's resistant to elemental attacks, it should take full damage from a non-elemental attack like Flare even though it's still magic.]

"That's a fine idea, miss, don't want no trouble to come to any of us. But might I suggest yellin', for those of us who don't know how to whistle?" He points to himself to indicate that there is at least one member of that group. "Somethin' along the lines of 'Help! We're in trouble!' could work, just sayin'."

He placed his hand on the door, poised to push it open. "Now, are we chargin' in the same order as we're walkin;? 'Cause I'm just fine with stayin' in the middle."

He'd be protected from both sides.

[The Flare attack is a lot stronger than expected, and it hits the other snake head, sending it flailing back as it hisses.

This angers the lion head, and it charges at the Hero closest to it head-on.]

[Cloud curses as the chimera suddenly appears. It was good that they were all on guard but he wasn't sure it could get much worse than one of these things. He'd heard stories about them.

But there wasn't any time to let himself be intimidated. He rushes forward to the front of the group while everyone is pulling into formation and the fight begins. He brings his shield up, swinging it to bash into the face of the oncoming lion head.]

SENTINEL!

[He locks eyes with the lion head of the monster, making it clear that it will be his target. He grips his sword tight in his other hand. Thanks to the way this castle works he can unleash this job's full power if he needs to, but defending the others is the priority and capturing it is second.]

We are the first ones here as far as I know. I'll write to the next group once we're done and let them know where we have been.

Well then, shall we be going?

[Jade notices, of course. It's always unusual for Anise to be that quiet.

He's rather hoping it's not about what he thinks it is. Either way, he waits until the others turn around a corner ahead of them before speaking up.]

What's wrong, Anise? I thought you'd have dug out a treasure or two by now.

Thanks to her vampire job, Lydia is the quietest of them; no sound while she walks and she's been practicing hard. Kenshin and Olivier were good teachers, and Yuffie helped her too on occasion.

Moving right up behind Olivier, pressed flat to the wall and crouching by the door. Nodding to Tazrenda to take the lead, as Lydia'd be right behind her in scouting around the room.

[She's a little miffed to see that the copies didn't work. Ib had actually thought that was clever. She really doesn't have any decent attacks in her arsenal right now. Well.... maybe that's not entirely true.

It's mostly a desire to be useful in this fight that has her pulling out a summon this early. And since the elemental attacks aren't working.... maybe this will..

Ib closes her eyes, calling to the eidolon.]


Choco-mog!

[Robin raises a hand, using Mad Scientist. There's a slate iron grey glow around Cloud -- giving him a buff to his defense!]

Sounds like a sound plan, it wouldn't do if we went to all this trouble and just looked at the same things. [It was enough to satisfy her for the time being, and now she knew that they were essentially going to take a look at everything as if it were new. But she does hold back a sigh when she hears the word 'treasure,' a smile wanting to tug at the corner of her lips. She didn't know if they were serious or they were trying to lighten the atmosphere...]

And yes, let's get going. If anyone wanted to designate themselves the leader, now would be the time to speak up.

[When Jade speaks up, she instantly goes into panic mode.]

Hee hee, what are you talking about? Nothing is wrong.

[There was no way he was gonna buy that. She had to try harder]

I'm only so quiet because I'm on the lookout for the biggest, most eye-catching, most expensive treasure here! It's not gonna get by me!

[Maybe he'd bye that? Because she's definitely not quiet because she's thinking about the whole Nebilim thing nope nope.]
