Running Around At The...?

Characters: Sonic and whomever
Where: Aqures Ixen, sixth district and elsewhere

Summary: Back in town, Sonic decides to bit of exploration with their old home and come to grips with what's happened
Warning: Snarky hedgehog.

"Sheesh, Polly-Tutu did this?"

This was a strange journey Sonic had been in. Time travel wasn't an uncommon thing, what with the Little Planet and Tikal's visions, but to be sent back 28 years, then spend those 28 years locked away in Crystal Stasis (which was just as odd) and come back to their current home something of a smoldering crater was enough to make the hedgehog... confused.

"Palitutu and yes." his Moogle, Bean, replied. "And if what you said is true, then this entire thing reeks of self-importance and and villainy!"

"That, and Polly-Tutu's gonna pay for scorching my hand!" Sonic said, shaking his burnt hand again. "That stung."

"First things first... why are we here?" Bean asked.

"I wanted to see what happened while we were gone. Now, I wanna see what we can find. I doubt Polly-Tutu could have ruined everything. Not even Eggman's that thorough!" Sonic replied.

"It's Palitu-- y'know what, forget it. We'll go with Polly-Tutu." Bean threw up its tiny arms in defeat as Sonic raced in, the Moogle chasing after him. "But, what if she was thourough?"

"Then, we head back and help out with the other stuff!" Sonic said, pointing out.

Yuna was casing the damage also though she wasn't sure what to think of it. Celes, her moogle, was sticking to her side. Despite his usual need to be independent he had missed Yuna in her time away and the stadium was all but gone. He was taking the news very personally.

He kept his Blitzball sticker on his bag but it had been rubbed away on one side when his little paw kept running over it.

Yuna spotted Sonic before Celes and waved at the hedgehog. She didn't know him but she remembered him from their 28 years in stasis.

Sonic came to a stop as he saw Yuna waving at him. Blinking, he returned the wave then ran up to join her.

"Hey, checking out the place, too, huh?" he asked.

"Yeah. There is a lot to clean up but I thought to survey the damnage first." She sighed softly. "It's hard to believe everything that's happened."

Yuna didn't like the idea of being used and not knowing more after everything that has happened left a sour taste in her mouth.

"There's no way to fix it quickly, kupo. Might as well look around first." Even someone depressed Celes wanted to act cool.

"Tell me about it." Sonic replied, crossing his arms. "One thing I do know, though, is that what Polly-Tutu..."

"Palitutu." Bean spoke up, annoyed.

"...said is so not true: what happened is all her fault. If she thinks blaming us for 'helping' is her way of getting out of this, she has another thing coming!"

"It is our fault though it might be true that we couldn't help it. We were still the cause." Yuna wasn't about to take all the blame but she knew that the heroes of light being present was causing problems.

Celes seemed worried to hear that. He didn't want his hero to leave again. "But you're helping us kupo." Yuna smiled at him and lightly put her hand over her head.

"Yes but we should be aware of what it means to be a hero of light. It's our crystals that make the calamity grow. If we want more time we need to stay away from it."

"And that's our problem. Polly-Tutu and probably a bunch of others know that now. And I'm certain that they'll try to drag us closer to it now." Sonic said. "And if they're going to threaten innocent people in order to do so, I'd rather take the risk!"

Yuna studied Sonic for a long moment. "You would risk the world and all the those lives? As well as you own world?" She must have misheard him or not understood.

"Last time we rushed in with that thought... a lot of people died." Celes clung to Yuna looking between the pair. He knew that the heroes were at odds after what happened but he didn't want to believe it. Here the heroes were the ones who saved the day. "Maybe if you learn more and then get closer. kupo?"

He really wanted to help.

Sonic crossed his arms at that. "And if we don't do anything, we're no better than those who'd want to bring about our troubles." He replied.

"My companion does not think. At all." Bean said, rolling his eyes in annoyance, causing Sonic to glare at him.

"We sit and plan for too long, things go pear-shaped." Sonic replied.

"Well, it's true we can't sit for to long but we can't rush. We'll only make things worse. We need to know more and if we take our time we can expand the time we have. Our enemies are people as well as the crystal and that makes it more complicated." She didn't mind Sonic's views however she didn't want him to put others into danger.

"Just remember... you hold everyone's lives in your hands. Not just this world but every world or every hero you've met here."

Yuna's expression softened as she looked at Celes. "Just keep that in mind."

Sonic frowned at that, crossing his arms and tapping his foot. What is it with everyone telling him to slow down? That's not his nature at all!

"And the longer we sit and wait, the longer those creeps have to make things worse!" Sonic countered back. "Knowing our luck, they're already starting to do just that!"

Yuna just smiled and shook her head. She wasn't asking him to go slow but to work with the others and think things through. They all had something that was important, or at least she wanted to believe so.

"There really is no way to know that."

Yuna was questioning everything after what happened with Yevon. She wanted to know more. Celes lightly pulled at her shirt. "Why not ask Cid more, he's awake kupo. Or maybe find Jessie?"

"We can't ask Jessie because it's all her fault. Heck, Jessie isn't her real name, it's Polly-Tutu!" Sonic said.

"Palitutu" Bean replied.

"Why do you keep replying like that?" Sonic asked his Moogle. "That's what I'm saying!"

"No, you're saying POLLY-tutu. It's pronounced PALLY-tutu." Bean replied.

Yuna watched the pair’s exchange, her expression grim. She wanted to smile but it was so hard lately. More and more often she found herself forcing her lips to curl upward.

“Because it’s clear that she knows what’s going on and for all of her fails she will tell us what she wants us to hear. Now that we know that we can find out what she doesn’t want us to know which might be the way to stop all of this.”

She wouldn’t stop Sonic from rushing into things but he might do so alone.

Sonic let out an annoyed noise, ending his little argument with Bean before addressing Yuna.

"This is so headache-inducing!" Sonic said. He threw his arms wide, indicating where they were. "Look at this place! You think she's going to sit down and start talking right here and now? I was there at the Crystal. She started the mess, she stopped me from saving Kalki and she told us that even if she could stop what she did, she wouldn't!"

He crossed his arms over his chest again.

"If she has the answers, we're not going to get it thinking she's still an ally right now!"

"Do you think that she is working alone then? And not with Kalki?"

Yuna wasn't there and Sonic was the first to really explain to her any piece of what had happened. Celes, for his part, remained silent. He clung to Yuna's side, his gaze flicking between those who stood among the collection of rumble and soot.

"I don't think they're working together." Sonic said. "If they are, then they're going for different goals."

"Most likely."

Yuna let out a short sigh. "I wish we could work with Kalki but it's hard to forget what she's done." She paused and looked down at Sonic. "I don't think you were hear at that time... It was in October. I remember the day very well. The Empire stole 4 Heroes of light from battle and performed horrible tests on them. It took us a month to get them back."

She hadn't heard the details from any of them but she knew Kalki was the cause.

Sonic couldn't help but cock an eyebrow at that. "Really, now. I figured Kalki was nuts, but doing that?"

He shook his head and continued. "But, at this point, the people we can really trust are ourselves and I think trying to hold us back out of fear isn't going to help."

Yuna didn't mean to sound really depressing, but she's about too. "Can we really trust in each other?" She looked down at Sonic, her expression curious.

"I don't know you nor do I know the other heroes. I met someone here who I remember as a horrible monster and yet, he isn't, what if I meant a friendly face who's evil? There is no way to know if we can trust each other. Do you trust all of the heroes?"

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going!" Sonic replied. "I've seen that, when all else fails, everyone pitches in to fix things."

He can't help but grin. "First thing ya gotta do, though, is believe in yourself!"

Yuna smiled at him. That was a lot of sayings but she wasn't sure if they apply. "Well, yes. That's nice in thought but I'm not sure how well that works in practice." Her gaze softens.

"I've never been very good at giving up myself."

And it's at this point, Sonic's grin fades a bit. "Sounds like, though, you've had. You've given up on us."

Yuna's head tilted to the side. "Why do you say that?" She didn't think she's given up. She looked at things with a more realistic view than she had before but that didn't mean that she didn't have hope.

She still believed in the heroes and those around her but she wanted to plan for the worst, she didn't want to sacrifice someone because they weren't ready.

"To be quite honest, I feel like a lot of people have given up, at least in all of us. Between what's-his-name stabbing the other guy and finding out about Polly-tutu, I think it's shaken us."

Will he admit it shook him, too? Probably not. Mostly because he's only been here, what, a month? Give or take twenty-eight years?

"Yes, some of the heroes have but the people of Crystallis are looking to us. It's a little silly to say but I have more of a reason to smile because of it. I want to prepare for the worst but I will always hope for the best and try with all my might. I will keep smiling and be that hope for the people of this world who put their faith in us. I won't let them down."

She looked back over at Sonic with a confident smile while Celes just looked up at his hero in awe. "Don't you think so? Maybe, by smiling, we can give the other heroes hope too."

"Are you planning on doing something?" Minako piped up, after everything that had happened she was a little if not a lot more shaken than she had been expecting. However she knew this didn't stop her from still wanting to try and help if only if there was a slight chance of making a difference.

Hands behind her back she watched him curiously as her moogle stayed by her side. "Though I guess given everything that happened it might seem like a nice idea to go solo, right?"

Coming to a stop, Sonic turned to address Minako. "Eh, solo's always been my thing. But, frankly, I'm trying to see if our little turncoat left something behind that could help us in the long run."

And he turns back to look at the ruins. "So far, it's just enough junk to hit her with."

"Considering... Well what I assumed happened, there probably won't be much that isn't ruins." She said hands on her waist as she was trying her best in order to help, even if it wasn't much honestly.

"But I guess even something small could be better than nothing at all."

"Exactly!" Sonic said, grinning a bit as he started to approach Minako. "Don't look so down, though; it's not the end of the world. Not yet, at least. We can still make a difference."

"Right, that's what I want to believe. After all we all have something we are fighting for." She said with a look of determination. Besides she has been through worse than thing. At least that was what she thought.

"We just need to think of a way for us to be better as a team as well as find more answers."

"Working together? Eheh..." Sonic looked away, rubbing his nose a bit. "Eh, I've been something of a one-player guy myself. Teamwork's fun and all, but I've been the kind of guy who goes solo for quite awhile..."

"And that is the mindset of someone who won't help save the world. Sure, I had to fight by myself for a while, but that was just a stepping stone to meeting people and learning to fight as a team. If it wasn't for them, I'm sure the world would have ended many a time."

Sure there were times Usagi had to deal with a situation by herself, but she always had her friends in mind and they did help her once before dying at least.

"Ehh... maybe you're right." Sonic said, shrugging. Of course she was! Liking to admit it or not, most of his adventures after meeting Tails had been done with the help of his friends.

"Of course I'm right." She said with a smile and a wink as she took a few steps forward. "I may be blond but I do have smarts in some areas that aren't the normal classe that I was in. Those were boring and not helpful."

Sonic wasn't the only one out for a run. Kidd had been unable to protect the city directly during the recent attack, though she had played a part in the defense. Now she was seeing what damage had been done and perhaps find some clues about Palitutu or the Empire's interests.

It was futile perhaps, but it kept her occupied.

The seeming young man, clad in her pirate garb, ran the rooftops of the city, stepping lightly and taking care to not do more damage than had already been done. She had not yet noticed Sonic today, though she'd seen him on previous occasions.

It would take Sonic just a while longer before he'd take notice of Kidd. He couldn't help but grin at the pirate - rooftop running's always the best! Too bad he was on the ground at the moment.

"Oi! Nice day for a run, huh?" he called out.

Kidd slowed to a halt at the voice, and she managed not to balk too badly as the sight of the talking blue critter. She's seen him about before, but even so she still couldn't shake the oddity of his existence. On the other hand, having known Ales all this time helped a bit.

"Ah, yeah. Tryin' to get a good view of what a state the city is in."

"Same thing, really! Mostly with the wreckage over there!" Sonic replied, pointing towards the sixth district. "If anything, I'm doubting there's nothing to be found. Always some kind of clue!"

Kidd couldn't help but smirk. The creature was odd but it had good instincts. "Aye, that's my thought as well. We know well who did this, but they may have left something important behind, or even might have hidden something else in all this." The last thing they needed was a bomb going off after the fact.

"Up for a race by any chance?"

The pirate, like most mornings out, had been minding his own business and purveying what was left to be seen of the city. While still considered an outlaw, Luffy couldn't help but feel like something needed to be done on his part to help with what had happened. He hadn't been present in the initial attack, and while it might not be his fault, it's difficult for him to not at least feel some sort of guilt.

All of that worry and thinking is dashed the moment he catches the stature of blue coming around the bend. He pauses, stopping in his own tracks as he overhears the blue thing speaking. His own jaw drops, eyes lighting up with splendor as he yells from across the way at the unknown creature.

"HEEEEEEEEEEEEEY! Y-You're a talking monster!"

There is no fear in his voice, rather, the lad with the Straw Hat seems overjoyed with his tone.

"Eh? Monster?!" Sonic came to a stop and blinked, looking around before realizing what he meant. "Me? Oh, no, I'm not monster - I'm a hedgehog!"

Luffy had been told numerous times by his Moogle companion that there existed different breads of creatures that were capable of speech and thinking. He'd been warned to not attempt any sort of harm to said creatures, even if they look like they may very well be delicious, especially considering that he's missed 12,200 meals since being stuck in Crystal Stasis in the past.

The pirate does his best to control himself, staring down the self-proclaimed "hedgehog" as he wipes the drool from the corner of his mouth on his forearm.

"Hedgehog? What's a hedgehog?"
