Robin + Morgan: Back Home!
[Finally, after everything's said and done, Robin is back home. It's been busy. Aqures Ixen has been hurt -- the damage is frightful -- and rebuilding has taken up a lot of time. So has... everything, really. Robin's grateful to just have a moment to sit down, to take a deep breath, and reflect.]
[It feels like she's barely breathed since the nightmares. Much less the exploration of the castle, the war, and the trip to the past.]
[When Morgan enters, she's on a sofa, idly leaning back and staring at the ceiling. Her book is on an endtable, as always, but Robin isn't reading it. She's just watching the ceiling, taking a second to just catch her breath.]

[When Morgan heard somebody moving downstairs, he'd hoped that it was Robin, even if he wasn't sure. His smile makes it pretty obvious that there's no one else he'd rather see.]
[He happily plops down on the sofa next to her, using all his restraint not to tackle her into a hug. When he'd woken up alone at the hospital after the fighting was finished, he'd been pretty worried. It wasn't that his mother couldn't handle herself, but against an entire army, after everything that had happened the last few weeks? It would be strange if he hadn't been worried.]
[But she was here now, and that was all that mattered.]
I'm so happy to see you back.
[Now that he's closer, it's pretty obvious that she's very tired. Maybe there was something he could do?]
Is there anything I can get for you?
no subject
[Robin may be tired but she's definitely happy to see him. She sits up straighter and smiles; it's still exhausted looking, but genuine enough. She doesn't hesitate, hugging him quickly. He'd been in that hospital, encased in crystal. She had been terrified throughout the fight. That terror was pushed to the back of her mind, of course.]
[But...]
[He's here. He's awake. He's back. It's good enough.]
Something to drink would be lovely! Do we have any food? I've really let the kitchen fall behind...
Sorry this is so short!
[After the hug, Morgan shoots up, and heads into the kitchen. Not long after, he comes back in with two rather large glasses.]
I just got back too, so I haven't gotten any food yet. Should we go together later?
[While he was partially motivated by the rumbling of his stomach, he really just wanted to spend time with Robin, whether it was at the house or out getting groceries.]
No worries!
[Then she nods.]
Yeah! I'd try to cook, but I've run around too much for that. I'll have to make you breakfast another time!
[But first a long drink of water. She needs some of that before she gets back up.]
Re: No worries!
[Even though he's smiling at first, it's not long before his smile turns into a more somber expression.]
[Aqures Ixen hadn't been hit as hard as Ylisse had, but Morgan found himself worrying nonetheless. From what he could tell, not only had entire sections of the city been destroyed, but something bad had happened to the heroes. Something really bad.]
[And that said nothing of how tired his mother looked. Kids gonna worry.]
So, uh, are you feeling okay?
no subject
Tired. So much happened. It feels like... since the nightmares, there's scarcely been a moment to breathe. You know?
no subject
[Morgan had missed the whole "trip to the past that ended in disaster" thing and he still felt utterly exhausted. There was a very non-small part of him that was still very upset about the whole dream thing.]
[But he knew that his mother had been through more, and so he's not gonna say anything.]
Do you wanna talk about it?
no subject
[She looks down, thinking back to what happened in those dreams. There was a lot else, but that was -- that was the thing on the back of her mind ever since, even while Morgan was in stasis. Her eyes drift downward.]
I'm sorry. About what you saw there, Morgan.
[He saw Chrom die. The entire nightmare; the thing she never wanted other people to know about.]
No one should have to see their mother do something like that.
no subject
[He tries to muster up the best fake smile that he can, but even if he could pull it off, the shaking in his hands would give it away.]
[It had just been a dream. Even if he'd seen his dad die, come back as a zombie, try to kill him, and then get burned alive, it was still all just a dream. He was gonna be okay.]
[But that didn't change the fact that Robin still looked pretty upset about it too, and Morgan couldn't blame her. He'd been kind of dreading this moment, but maybe it was time to clear the air.]
Actually, it...kinda sorta wasn't the first time I saw you do it.
no subject
[That makes her tense -- and freeze up. She always felt there was something much too real about that dream. It wasn't just a dream. It was a premonition; a vision of what might be.]
[Perhaps... perhaps of what must be.]
Then... then it's true. Then I... [She stares down, and the usual barrier she tries to keep up -- to look strong in front of her son -- slips.] Gods...
no subject
[Morgan trails off. He'd phrased that rather poorly and he couldn't blame Robin for being so upset. How did he fix this? How did he make this better?]
Um, it's kind of complicated. But F--[Morgan stops himself again. This probably wasn't the time.]--I mean, Chrom, he makes it through okay. And we all win in the end.
[...Probably.]
no subject
I... I see. You saw something like that happen, then? But...
[She frowns.]
The dream must have been different than reality, then.
no subject
[Morgan grimaces as he responds; as much as he tried to bottle it up, there's no way it wouldn't be a painful memory.]
[That being said, he was (thankfully) still able to separate it from reality. He was still 99% sure that his life didn't involve zombie dads trying to kill him. Unfortunately, it did involve evil doomsday dragons resurrecting, but he wasn't going to mention that.]
I think this place did something to all those dreams. It kept twisting them, and making them worse. But it wasn't real.
[He wasn't positive, but he'd seen Yuffie's, and he was pretty sure that there were a few things that had been changed there.]
no subject
I... had that vision, before. Or a premonition or a memory. But it was different. It was only Chrom and me, fighting against Validar. There weren't Risen there.
[She hesitates.]
Chrom died, at the end of it, in... the same circumstances. But... the rest didn't occur. Something -- something twisted the visions. I wish I understood what. And why.
no subject
The risen might've been our fault. And Chrom...
[The "our" Morgan is referring to is him and the rest of the future kids; he'd been told plenty of times about how the Risen followed Lucina back into the past, which meant the Risen in the dream were probably their fault, too.]
[But the Risen were pretty easily dealt with, especially with all of the warriors they had on their side. What bothered Morgan more was Chrom--Robin said that she had memories of killing Chrom before coming to Crystallis, but that couldn't be right, unless she was talking about the original timeline? But if she was from the original timeline, why did she know Lucina? He was confused.]
[He doesn't want to think about it, and he definitely doesn't want to let Robin know there was a future where she might have actually killed Chrom, so he tries to change the topic as quickly (and as flustered) as possible.]
Maybe the thing that twisted it was whatever showed us those dreams in the first place? Something had to get into our memories first, right? Maybe they went and messed around with them then.
no subject
[She frowns, then nods; Robin looks down. She's left wondering, still, if it was real. But there aren't clear answers -- and moreover, Morgan gives her hope of a better ending. She can settle for that. She looks down at the ground, thoughtful for a moment.]
[His change of topic makes Robin think. She looks back up at Morgan and hesitates -- before she nods her head.]
It makes sense. Some of what's happened was meant to get under our skin. When we were sent to the past... if Kalki did it, she wanted us to see something there. But... I've never heard of her influencing dreams. Her or someone else could have.
no subject
[It was a pretty weak theory, and Morgan didn't really think much of it.]
[Somebody on this world not only had the power to get into everybody's memories, but to alter them and broadcast them to everyone else. That, even more than Validar, was terrifying.]
[But onto happier things. Or, things that Morgan had more questions about.]
Oh yeah, how are you feeling about...everything that happened in the past?
[He ends up tripping over the last part of the sentence, not really sure what to say, but despite the almost casual way with which he says it, he's still pretty sincere. He'd seen a few people very upset about what happened, but he didn't know any of the finer details.]
no subject
[She considers for a moment, before she looks up. The end of Aqures Tosf? It was... distressing, but they saw something important.]
I didn't like witnessing how it happened, of course. But... I feel like we learned something valuable.
I just don't know what yet. But Kalki must have wanted us to see it -- and it revealed Jessie for who she was.
no subject
[Morgan hadn't been there for Jessie's betrayal, but he certainly knew it happened. It wasn't hard to see how much it hurt everyone, either.]
Yeah, but why would Kalki even want us to see it? Exposing Jessie would only hurt the Empire, right?
[Considering that Jessie had gained all of their trust, her reveal must have cost the Empire one of their top agents.]
no subject
[She frowns. Kalki said there's something they'll have to do -- and if they knew what it was now, they would refuse to.]
She has something she wants us to do. She is trying to force us in that direction--and she will not say what it is. I think it can be nothing good.
no subject
[There were too many variables, and Morgan couldn't help but feel that there was something awful coming. Something worse than the attack on the city.]
[But that didn't mean they couldn't handle it. There was that trademark optimism. There was that trademark smile.]
But it doesn't matter as long as we're together, right? Our invisible bonds can overcome anything!
[Or something.]
no subject
Yeah! We can do anything, as long as we fight next to the people that make us even stronger.
[She slings an arm across his shoulders, and then pulls Morgan into a hug. That's her boy.]
[Funny, she thinks, how it doesn't even feel weird anymore.]
no subject
[Sensing that the atmosphere had become much lighter and friendlier, Morgan's smile becomes much more natural.]
Is there anything you wanted to ask?
[It's not as pressing as an issue as before, and it's presented rather innocently, but it was probably an important thing to ask. Considering when Robin was from, it was probably natural she'd be curious about a thing or two.]
no subject
[Robin grins at that. Then she considers, before she looks up at the ceiling.]
What was it like? Did we live somewhere nice? I suppose I must have cooked more than bear meat for you. Ah... asking you to summarize an entire childhood! This is hard.
no subject
Yeah, you and dad were really great! Everything back then was really nice.
[And almost uncharacteristically, his expression darkens a bit. Although most does his amnesia didn't bother him, there were some times where he did wish he remembered his childhood.]
...I think. I might not be the best person to ask.
no subject
Ah... it's okay. If it's hard to talk about or it's something you'd rather not, Morgan.
[She pulls back, then she nods.]
We have here and now. Right?
