Warnings: The Heroes and a party. What could possibly go wrong?

On November 5, another letter from Johnny would go out to everyone reminding them of the costume party, and invite all the newbies along as well. Costumes are a necessity for entrance, except for the newbies, since they've only been here a little over 24 hours now.

The Observatory is in its usual party set up, but this time with an added stage area for any musicians who would like to perform. It's also the spot set up for the costume contest later on. The whole place is covered in festive Night of the 13 Moogles decorations, and as always, there's plenty of food and drinks.

[The Marshall. Reno didn't think he would end up liking the other man, but Fate had a funny way of stepping in it would seem. Now, even though he had no idea what Sparks was supposed to be at this party, Reno had an otherwise positive opinion of the gunslinger.]

As miserable as the last one?

[Reno's face twisted into a nervous smile -- obviously trying to be polite, but with no joy in it.]

This sorta evil-possessions, destroy-the-city shit happen annually?

Uh, yeah. I mean, this one was hardly a space picnic, but last year's? It involved some Heroes gettin' real sick, then brainwashed, and then some pretty bloody fights.

[And Sparks was one of those brainwashed Heroes. He doesn't really want to talk much about it.]

So, y'know. Crystal Heroes goin' rogue and a giant marshmallow moogle just seems like another day here in Crystallis. The good news is, considerin' all those culprits are now dead, we shouldn't have to put up with this moogle king resurrection nonsense anymore.

[All those culprits. Shit. With everything that had happened at the hospital, with Yuffie and Kyo and Yuki, Reno had nearly forgotten.]

What happened to Cloud?

[Did he sound worried? He was worried, but he hoped he didn't sound excessively so... Stupid embarrassment.]

He took a lotta hits, but he made it. Reckon he's probably takin' a break... Or maybe's too embarrassed to show his face yet.

[Seriously, what was the deal with that dress?]

Not sure if he's at the hospital or at home, though.

[Reno exhaled, noticeably relieved.]

So he's okay... Good.

[He lowered his voice for Sparks' ears.]

I know we went t' the hospital -- an' I don't regret it -- but... I really thought Sephiroth was gonna kill 'im.

[And he still wasn't sure if it might have been a good option, but he felt better knowing it didn't happen.]

[Sparks's eyebrows raise at the mention of Sephiroth. He keeps his voice somewhat low.]

Ya really think so? Ya really think he'd up 'n kill another Hero like that?

[He questioning doesn't sound very surprised, though.]

[Reno pressed his lips together and nodded, a hard look in his eye.]

I do, yeah.

[It might not be the "same" Sephiroth, it might even be a heroic Sephiroth -- but Reno knew what he'd heard. And he had no doubt that Sephiroth felt completely justified in his decision.]

He might think it's for a good reason, but he'd kill someone.

Ya probably won't be surprised to hear that yer not the only one who's said the same to me. Not sure there's much I can do about it without him actually doin' something, but he's got an eye bein' kept on him.

[Otherwise Barkeep may pester Sparks to death about it.]

Yeah, I get it.

[And he did. Sparks was an officer of the law -- and, here in Crystallis at least, that meant that he was also bound by that law. Reno had been used to the leeway being a Turk afforded. And being told that the crystal had given him the job of Assassin seemed to be appropriate to the old ways of working around the rules.]

But yer not the only one watchin' him.

[He had almost wanted to give Sephiroth a chance. New world, different timeline, the potential for something better. But after Sephiroth was so ready to kill Cloud without any hesitation... That was what bothered him, Reno supposed. The fact that, even if it had been the only way, Sephiroth didn't seem to struggle at all with the decision. Reno had been that way once, too. He didn't want to go back.]

Not surprised I ain't. But do me a favor 'n let me know before someone else does somethin' reckless in regards to him. Y'know. Whoever is could be.

[No one specific or anything. First Barkeep, then Yuffie, now Reno. Which brings a question to Sparks's mind.]

Exactly how many folks from yer world do ya know here, anyway.

Reckless? Sure.

[Sure, if "someone else" was about to do it. These people, or most of them, didn't know the danger they'd be dealing with. Or maybe they did, in which case Reno wasn't sure if that kind of confrontation would be smart or utterly stupid.]

[There was Cloud, Tifa... Sephiroth, obviously. Angeal, Yuffie, Vincent...]

At least six. From home. From other worlds, it gets complicated.

Dang. That's a lot. For me, well... [Red, Jim, Barkeep, and, technically, Croach. Even if the latter was never brought in with the Heroes.]

We'll say four. But we all came in from different times. Reckon Barkeep says that means different universes, too. Maybe. I dunno. That stuff gets complicated fast.

I think I might be the furthest along in my -- our? -- timeline, too. So that's fun. Knowing weird shit, trying to figure out if you should share said shit or not.

But it could be worse, so I guess I shouldn't really complain.
