Who: Everyone!
What: A week late Halloween celebration.
Where: The Observatory
When: Friday, Nov. 6, 7:00 PM
Warnings: The Heroes and a party. What could possibly go wrong?

On November 5, another letter from Johnny would go out to everyone reminding them of the costume party, and invite all the newbies along as well. Costumes are a necessity for entrance, except for the newbies, since they've only been here a little over 24 hours now.

The Observatory is in its usual party set up, but this time with an added stage area for any musicians who would like to perform. It's also the spot set up for the costume contest later on. The whole place is covered in festive Night of the 13 Moogles decorations, and as always, there's plenty of food and drinks.

[[This is just a general mingle log, and a good way for the new Heroes to meet everyone, so post whatever and have fun!]]

[…mostly. Of course, if she's looking after the shop on her own, there's probably not a lot of time to get out… And it's easier to watch someone staying in the one place, but still-]

You don't have any days off?

[Terra shakes her head.]

Only when Tempest runs the shop for me. I don't have anyone else there and I can't leave the cats and the flowers alone.

[However, sometimes the neighboring shops will check on the kittens in Terra's stead if she's away. Everyone there is very nice.]

… It doesn't seem right to push that on either of you.

[that's something, though she doesn't necessarily know that. She frowns, tilting her head.]

How much would it take to employ another person?

[Terra shakes her head.]

I don't know. I'd have to ask Tempest.

[Tempest controls most of the money with the shop.]

[she nods, not totally satisfied- again- but if it's working…]

He's been very dependable, hasn't he?

[Terra shifts awkwardly.]

Tempest is a she and yes. I don't know what I'd do without her.

[Her moogle does far more than any moogle should and Terra is more than a little thankful for it. She's very lucky to have Tempest even if Tempest doesn't say so.]

Ah- my apologies.

[deeeeefinitely going kind of red. That's one thing name patterns are good for… At least she didn't say it to the moogle's face.]

What about outside of the shop? Have you made anything since last time?

[Terra shakes her head to indicate no. Her life is a rather boring one and when she's at home she usually takes the reading one of the many books left by Genesis. Otherwise she's been learning to cook which means that her sewing has taken a back seat.]

I don't know what to make.

[It's only part of the problem. The other part is that the influx of kittens would destroy anything the young Esper tries to make.]

Well- if you're looking for ideas, I imagine gloves and scarves will come in handy.

[and she tilts her head, a mischievous smile pulling at her lips.]

Perhaps you could even make some for a close friend, hm?

[…what about distracting them with odds and ends and cutoffs?]

[Terra blinks looking up at the other curiously.]

Close friend?

[She has no idea what you mean.]

[oh no. Oh no, that won't do at all. Certainly not in the heart of K'pandolu Tohka, sometime retainer of House Valentione!

She puts Flower on her lap, clapping her hands together as she leans forward a little, a grin beginning to spread over her lips. Surely Momodi's talks will bear her in good stead here!]

Those close to your heart, of course! Who you hold most precious to you!

[That makes Terra blush while silence falls from her lips. There is a name that pops into mind and a face that follows shortly after. She doesn't want to say but she doesn't want to stand stunned either.]

I can't make one person a bunch of scarves...

[She can but it won't be very useful.]

Plus he has winter attire.

No? But he could have one for every day of the week!

[she settles back, though, smile turning gentle.]

Perhaps- but that it was made by you will give it a little more meaning. Unless you're concerned he won't think about it that way…?

[This makes Terra feel even more uncomfortable. It's a fear that's rooted itself in the pit of her stomach, wrapping around her heart and then never letting go. It feels like a plant growing inside of her and if it's left unchecked it would consume her.]

I don't think... he feels that way about me.

[She doesn't think that anything she made would have much meaning.]

...but that's okay. I just want him to stay near.

[After everything from her memories it's okay if she ends up alone. She deserves that much.]

Terra…

[K'pandolu twitches her ears back, tail curling around her. For all her gifts- her consideration as a retainer of House Valentione- the ways of the heart are still something of a mystery to her.

But still-

She listens, and then there was that request put up… The very one she responded to and is keeping in mind. That says something, in her mind.]

I can't speak for him. But… I don't think that's right. I think…

[…well, she thinks Sephiroth's not the type to talk about his feelings so easily. This… this is going to take some doing, Menphina's grace be with her.]

I think he'd be glad to stay with you.

[This isn't where she is expecting the conversation to go. Her cheeks flush and she looks around the party hoping that no one has noticed. It isn't an emotion she feels often but its something she hasn't told anyone. Her feels are one of those things she keeps locked away.]

I... [Her throat feels dry and she shakes her head.]

I can't ask that.

[She'd never want to be so selfish as to request that someone stay with her. More so knowing that it will never be a promise that neither of them can keep.]

[K'pandolu twitches one ear in the direction of the rest of the party, but they seem to be clear for now.

She leans forward, reaching out to touch Terra's hand and looking to meet the other's eyes.]

Then… perhaps, instead, you could tell him how much you appreciate his company. I'm sure he'd be glad to hear that.

[Promises that can't be kept… Somewhere inside her, something like that aches. All the more reason to try and do something for another.]

[Terra is nervous about this for several reasons but she nods. There isn't any hurt in trying.]

I can try that.

That's a start!

[and probably all she can ask, for now. This is perhaps more involved than was called for, but she's not the type to want to leave this alone now that she's paying attention.

She glances out at the rest of the party again, thinking. Flower's still in her lap, of course, but-]

Terra- do you dance?

[It’s almost ironic that she thought to ask that. Terra looks a little uncomfortable at the topic but she nods to confirm that she can dance.]

Ven taught me and then I’ve been learning on my own.

[Tempest is the one who first taught her and she had practiced with Genesis but that had been so long ago.]

[dancing's fun, though!

K'pandolu relaxes a little, leaning back for the moment as she starts patting Flower with one hand.]

He has a surprising number of talents, doesn't he? Which dances have you been learning?

Waltz and a few others.

[It’s a simple statement and silently Terra wishes the conversation might change. Its switch from once tense topic to another, of course, there really was no way for K’pandolu to know that.]

Excuse me. [Flower seems to have fallen asleep which is supposed to be Terra’s cue to leave the party.] I should probably get him home.

He showed me that one, too! It's good, isn't it? Which other dances?

[…do they have any topics that aren't awkward or terrible, really.]

Oh- [she blinks at the kitten in her lap, hands paused just above him.] I suppose that would be best. Would you like company on your way?

[Terra shakes her head.]

It isn't far and I don't want you to have to leave the party early.

[In truth she brought the cat so she had a reason to leave early. She rarely stays at gatherings like this for a long time.]

I could always come back.

[SECRETS REVEALED

She gathers Flower up and holds him out to Terra, though. She rather suspects Terra won't appreciate her pushing, much as K'pandolu has the duty she's taken up in mind. If it's only a little way away, it shouldn't be a problem, anyway, right?]
