Summary: The first trip to the Continent of Ruins is finally happening! The Heroes of Light, the Enterprise Crew, Cid and O'aka are all onboard for the trip. What will the Heroes of Light find there? [Umiko glances up and returns his smile with the slight upward turn of her lips. Her eyes shine in the dim lightly as if seeing Ven might have just given her another idea.]

Hey, Ven. What have you been up too?

[She might have a favor to ask of him since they will be here for a few days.]

I've been looking around all day! Spent a lot of time in the gaming district.

[He looks down at where her work has piled up on the table.]

Are you working?

[She taps her pen against the paper and nods.]

That's right. I'm collecting data to make a map of this city. We have a few days before the Enterprise returns home. Think you could do me a favor?

[Instead of spending all his time in the gaming area.]

[Ven brightens again at that. He's always eager to help! He should have plenty of time to explore for himself some more, anyway.]

Sure! What do you need?

[Umiko pulls out a nifty looking device. Above the base is a roundish frame with letters and numbers marking the side. From its center hangs a weighted string that slowly swings from side to side.]

I need you to go to these points...

[She begins scribbling down a list of numbers.]

...in the city and record what this device reads.

[Curious, Ven leans over to get a closer look at the thing.]

Huh... So I just take it there and it does the rest?

[Umiko places it on the table and then points to the string.]

You just write down where this number lines up.

[Ven follows her gesture, and then nods confidently.]

Okay! No problem. You just need 'em before we leave?

Yup!

[This way she might actually get all the data that she needs.]

It would be amazingly helpful.

[Amazingly helpful, huh? Then he definitely can't turn her down. (Not that he would anyway, but.)]

Got it! [He pulls the little contraption closer with care.] I'll start first thing in the morning. [No, really, he'll make it priority. He's just that nice.] Anything else?

[ven no]

[Umiko shakes her head while a soft laugh falls from her lips. He really is too nice and she's almost impressed by it.]

No, that's it.

Thank you Ven.

No problem! [He honestly is glad to help; even if he's not helping a direct friend, he was taught to always reach out to others. Fulfilling that duty -- that purpose -- is its own reward, really.]

So what do you think of the town so far?

I wish I didn't have to leave.

[She sighs before carefully rolling up the last of her parchment and sliding it into the bag at her side. She then reaches for her drink and takes a long swig of the cool liquid.]

But, I have to return, maybe that's what makes this place so alluring.

I guess that makes it more exciting, huh? [Which he gets. Sitting in the same place for too long, however great it is, eventually gets old.]

Are you planning on working the whole time?

That's the plan. It's the only way that I can get this done.

[She looks over at Ven wondering why he'd ask that.]

Oh. You're that busy, huh? [That's a shame if she doesn't get any time to relax and have fun.] Well, I hope you finish early. There's a lot to see and do here.

[Umiko is having fun now, more so since she’s put away her papers and begins to focus on her beer.]

There is always time to come back.

[She does live here after all and she isn’t going to rest until she’s seen everything.]

Why don’t you make sure you have enough fun for the both of us?

[He smiles again, nodding.]

Yeah, that's true. [More so for her, since this is her world and all. She will, hopefully, have the rest of her life to check out new places.]

All right! I'll tell you how it goes. [Probably when he returns her little device thing -- which he carefully picks up to take with him.] Don't work too hard, okay?

[Umiko waves a hand as if to dismiss him.]

Don’t worry, I won’t. I know how to relax.

[Which seems to be true because Umiko is kicking back and taking two long gulps of her beer. Rudder pauses in his book and carefully puts the rest of her work away as if signaling that she’s done for the night and ready to have a few rounds before bed.]
