[Guess who's never been kissed before. This is what it's like? ...It's...not terrible. At all.]
[Three quick blinks later, heart jackhammering wildly against her ribs, she closes her eyes and tentatively attempts to mimic Reno's movements. She doesn't have any experiences to compare him to, but from what she can tell, he's pretty good at this. Alarmingly so.]
[The merchant stares, almost as surprised as Rukia. He tugs at his collar uncomfortably because wow. That's a lot of passion.]
'I-I see I was mistaken. Forgive me for doubting you. Consider this pen a gift of good will. Many happy wishes to you both.'
no subject
[For a pen. Well, Reno had kissed for worse. He plucked the box out of the shopkeeper's hands, simply enjoying how pink the man's ears had grown.]
Thank you!
[He kept his arm around Rukia as he carefully steered her away, cooing about how wonderful their luck was. Until they were well out of the shopkeeper's sight. Then he released her and held up the pen, all pretense gone.]
This is a piece of shit.

[She's still not really sure how she feels about getting kissed, but she does hope there was a good reason for it. Weren't those sorts of gestures meant to be taken seriously? Rukia is just grateful her Moogle hadn't come along with her, or she'd never hear an end to the excited squealing and constant chatter about true love.]
Why the charade? Was someone seeking your hand in marriage?
no subject
[Reno shook his head.]
You can't believe everythin' about what people are tryna' sell you.
no subject
[Were it one of her other friends, she might tease him and say he was just finding an excuse to steal a kiss...and probably kick him to boot. But she knows that he's kind, and extraordinarily considerate. It's possible that he was just trying to keep her from appearing ignorant by calling out the merchant to his face.]
I thought kissing was considered to be a big deal to your kind.
[Probably to her kind too, honestly. She just hadn't experienced much of that culture.]
no subject
[Reno missed the days when people were flat out afraid of him. Sort of.]
My kind?
[He laughed.]
Not sure what you mean, but it isn't a big deal t' me.
Wait... [He realized, in hindsight,] Is it a big deal for you?
no subject
[She looks thoughtful. It seems like she should be angry, but she can't really summon up any real indignation. Is it because there was no real affection involved? She's certain that's the case. It was just an act and nothing more.]
To be honest, it wasn't something I expected to experience, nor would I be fool enough to seek it out for the sake of simply sating my curiosity. But I confess that I had wondered what it might be like to kiss someone.
[Her shoulders hitch in a casual shrug.]
Now I know. I'm grateful for that, as I didn't have to ask, nor did it cause a strain in friendship. ...You must think me strange.
no subject
[That was a relief. He'd expected her to be a little upset, but he hadn't intended to ruin a friendship over it.]
I guess I'm... glad t' help? Dunno why you'd never be kissed, though, by someone.
You can have the pen if you want it. Just know it ain't magical or anythin'.
no subject
[She gives a short chuckle.]
I've just never been interested in that sort of thing. But thank you, you're quite kind.
[As for the pen, she blinks at it, then smiles.]
Perhaps you should keep it as a souvenir, as well as a reward for your impromptu performance. Keeping what gil I have is reward enough for me. How dare he lie about the abilities of his goods! None of the other merchants were ever so dishonest.
[Yes they were.]
no subject
I have a feelin' more were dishonest than you think...
[Especially toward the Heroes, who were obviously tourists.]
If yer still shoppin', I wouldn't mind goin' with you? Could use a souvenir or two.
no subject
[So when he offers to go with her, she brightens, and inclines her head.]
Please! I should like a second opinion in any case. I was hoping to find a weapon with an element attached.
[At least she can gauge weapon quality, so it's not as easy to pull the wool over her eyes when it comes to craftsmanship.]
What kind of souvenir are you hoping to find?
we can wrap up soon <3
But an elemental weapon sounds pretty badass. If we find a good deal for you, maybe I'll get somethin' similar.
Sounds good!
[She folds her arms with a little smirk. If his reasons had been different, she would have been angry or upset. But he'd only done it to protect her from getting ripped off. There was no real emotional attachment, so she can't treat it as if it's a big deal. It clearly wasn't a big deal for him.]
Perhaps we can test our weapons on the plains once we return to the city, as well. I'm curious to see how well you fight.
