"Mysidia and its peoples come with their own set set of challenges," Ashelia started, nodding in acknowledgement of Sparks' assessment, "but there is something to be said for the fact that this land seems to be yet untouched by war." That wasn't to say there was no crime, but there didn't seem to be any major conflict going on currently - or for quite a while.

"Such as how he knew of our arrival." Ashelia crossed her lanky arms, bowing her head in thought. The Pyramid gave her a familiar feeling; almost as if she were standing once again on Holy Mt. Bur-Omisace. "Perhaps he dreamt it..."

"Let's just hope we ain't bringin' any here." Trouble followed the Heroes wherever they went, and the last thing Sparks wants is this place to be opened up to harassment from the Empire. Or who else knows what sort of craziness could erupt while they're here.

"Yeah, for one thing. And why they saw fit to let us in, then. 'N why they were closed off for so long in the first place. And... like I said, a lot." Normally Sparks would think someone predicting the future was full of it, but on this planet full of magic, anything seemed possible.

"Have ya checked out anythin' else while we're here? They've actually got an arcade here." Her was pretty happy about that, even if the level of tech was still over a millennium out of date to Sparks.

"It's...possible the Empire already has the technology able to reach this continent," Ashelia said, shifting uncomfortably. "They did have control of the Enterprise for some time, and I would be quite surprised if Cid were able to keep any of his research secret under their watch." Which doesn't help matters, but at least it's safe to assume it wouldn't be the Heroes' fault for leading the Empire anywhere. "As for this Sage...I imagine several of us would prefer to speak with him privately. If the dominant thought process is thus," Ashelia gestured to the windows depicting the various betrayals the Heroes had suffered in the previous cycle, "I should think sufficient explanation is needed."

The Queen sighed, shaking her head. "I don't suppose the arcade you refer to is a covered passageway with arches along one or both sides." There's no way Sparks would be excited about architecture.

"Nah, not that kind. The kind that's a building filled with video game consoles. Really old fashioned stuff." But the kind that was a fun novelty for a guy coming from a world with the technology level Sparks is used to. His own marshal station alone had realistic 3D hologram software and AI, so the arcades were down right adorable and quaint.

He looks around at the windows, frowning a bit. "Yeah, that. Why focus on that stuff. This got somethin' to do with that cult that worships the Calamity? Do they just like when bad stuff happens or somethin'?"

"Video games." The concept wasn't completely new to Ashelia. She had heard about it briefly from other Heroes here and there, but for the life of her she couldn't figure out why. Was there not enough to get done in a day that one needed to turn to idle entertainments? If that was the case and one needed entertainment, why not take in a play, or symphony, or stroll around the city and take in the myriad talents of a busker? "I cannot say I'm overly familiar."

"There are doomsday cults the world over," Ashelia replied, shaking her head in disbelief. "People worship devils and demons and evil spirits - why shouldn't they worship the Calamity?" She sighed. "But this goes deeper - it has thus far, why not this as well? There are Ancient ruins everywhere. Perhaps this is yet another." She crossed her arms. "Why shouldn't the Ancients glorify those who brought about the Calamity's return? Those who perpetuated their cycle?"

"Reckon people have worshiped crazier things out there. And I also reckon that some people could see it as a good thing, y'know, in a totally messed-up way. If ending everythin' to start over again's yer thing. I just wonder if people realize that probably means the end to them, too."

Sparks shook his head. Didn't matter what planet you were on; crazy people caused trouble everywhere.

"If that's the case, they ain't much gonna like us. Pretty well known that the Heroes are around to stop it, and this Sage knew we were comin' well ahead of time. Who know who else might know."

Ashelia nodded along with Sparks' assessment. "You aren't wrong. You must be careful - there are no humes about this place. I can at least attempt to blend in, but yourself and the others...

"As for ending the world to begin anew...any who seek the power to do that will be corrupted by it. Mark my words." Ashelia knew all too well the corrupting nature of power - the desire for it, even to protect, was too easily twisted. "That is Kalki's goal. Her methods demonstrate the true depravity of that particular path."

And yet, if she had the opportunity, what would she do?

"Yeah, I think we need to make sure no one goes out anywhere alone while we're here. Everyone loves the buddy system, right?"

Sparks grumbles. "And if Kalki's yer measure of whether or not ya should do something, the answer's pretty obvious." He folded his arms sharply. Kalki could jump in right now and end the Calamity, and he'd still hate her for what she did to his best friend.

"I just hope the Empire keeps their nose out of this place. But I got no doubt they'll come pokin' around in here soon enough, now that it's open."

Ashelia shook her head. "If they are not already here. Regent Cid worked under the watchful eye of the Empire for years. If the man was able to keep the secrets of her research away from prying eyes, he is more of a genius in truth than we all give him credit for." She sighed lightly. "Nay, I daresay if we have truly beaten the Empire here, 'tis only by weeks, if that."
