[He registers the familiar voice nearby but -perhaps on account of the breathtaking approach to Mysidia - it takes Sephiroth a few beats longer to tear his gaze away and look back over his uniformed shoulder at Cloud.

Despite all of how he might feel around the boy from his same world, Sephiroth's expression softens a little and he smiles lightly. Not in the overly-encouraging way Zack might have done, but in that decent way that could be taken to mean a thousand unspoken comments. They've certainly had their troubles, between the two of them.]

Hm, I doubt that any of us were expecting this.

[That smile is indeed noticed, but just barely. A touch of pink comes to Cloud's cheeks. Any sort of encouragement from his hero brings it out of him. He can't help it.

His eyes go back to the new land and the city coming into view.
]

From what we knew, what we heard about this place I was expecting some barren continent. Rocks. Mountains. Maybe some ruins. But this is a lot...there must be people living there.

[That's exactly the reason why Sephiroth recently found himself wondering if he shouldn't be trying to support Cloud more, rather than raging against the facts that they both now knew of their futures. While Reno hadn't been right in calling out against his judgment of the situation with the moogles, there remained a sticky thought which suggested that Cloud might not have been in that situation at all if others had looked out for him better.

As his once-upon-a-time hero, surely some of that responsibility fell in his direction? No matter how uncomfortable Cloud's idolizing of him felt a lot of the time, didn't he have a duty to keep the dreams of the young boy alive?]

It certainly seems so. That complicates matters even further, in some ways.

[Cloud doesn't blame anyone for what happened with him and the moogles, save for the moogles responsible themselves. He knows they were doing all they could to save him and also still protect the city. Whatever Sephiroth intended to do wasn't personal, so he can't be mad about it.

And really, with the ShinRa PR machine no longer tossing out all the half truths and highlights about Sephiroth, Cloud was now seeing the SOLDIER for his own deeds. And his fandom is still intact.

And he still believes that this Sephiroth can be different from the scourge of Gaia if he wants to be.
]

Yeah. If they're hostile we could be in trouble. Or if the Empire got to them first. We should make sure we're ready to fight or take off again fast if we have to.

[It's more the fact that something Mograma said eats at him, that the moogle they had captured could have helped them by stopping his kinsmen before they had gone too far. Cloud didn't have to go through that.

As for his deeds during their roles in this performance, to Sephiroth they would never have a scratch on the achievements that he'd seen through on Gaia. Never mind how much, in either case, said deeds might have been -or still being- directed by unseen forces.]

Indeed. [Though he really doubts what Cloud says about the Empire, they -did- have better technology than the Aqureans did so it isn't impossible.]

Though it's not the two of us that I'm concerned about.

[There were a lot of Heroes now who'd try every which way to avoid fighting, talking around the situation, negotiation...when sometimes violence is inevitable.]

Really? What do you mean?

[Cloud can think of one Hero that Sephiroth might be worried about but he's not going to bring that up right now. And then there's the unspoken interpretation that the senior SOLDIER believes in Cloud.

Or maybe he's just reading too deeply into it.
]

You mean the other Heroes?

[To Sephiroth, Cloud has shown himself up time and time again as being one of those Heroes who really did have their head screwed on right. A part of him might even be a little jealous at how well Cloud has adapted; he's only just picked up a new Job recently where he'd been most apprehensive at trying something new before.

As for particular other Hero, he's trying very hard, specifically not to play bodyguard. It aches in a way to know that she's there but he's aware of the fact that he needs to stop smothering her so much, she's more capable than he really gives credit for.]

Not to put too fine a point on it but I find it risky on a first expedition, to bring along so many...unknowns.

[Try as he might, there wasn't any other way to put it. Unknowns in terms of the vast assortment of personalities and interests, not even touching on how there might be so many different agendas which might not necessarily be aligned.]
