You could have just asked, kupo... [Now thoroughly put out, Sein proceeds to float down to his usual place in Tear's lap despite her frown, closing his eyes as if he were about to take a nap.

With a sigh she simply pats his head, returning her full attention to Minato rather than her pouting moogle.]
I heard someone from the crew say it would be hours... It makes sense, given we're travelling quite a distance to get to this new area.

[ He's thankfully not nearly as blunt as he was at the beginning of his Crystallis Adventures™, and thus doesn't admit that he usually wouldn't bother because so many meetings don't really mean much to him... Go on and try rest peacefully, little Moogle guy. He totes hasn't forgotten your name within the past five seconds. ]

I see... yeah, it does. [ He rubs his cheek, not really sure if he should delay about asking or not... the last time he tried to set up a proper atmosphere for an apology, he ended up embarrassing himself because of how little the other party thought of it. Maybe this time around he'll just take a subtle approach rather than anything outright. ]

... Have you been doing okay?
cantante: (smile) (sisterly) (gentle) (♭ 010.)

[For a moment Tear looks confused—though she didn't mind being asked such things, it takes a few moments for her to realise just why he would be asking. Life had continued on as normal, and she had fulfilled her obligations just fine. But in reality, it had been a way of dealing with what had happened properly.

That's why her smile is only just there and she doesn't entirely look at him in the face, but she nonetheless appreciated his concern.]
I've been... all right, returning to being on more active duty for the military.

You're in the military?

[ He believes this is the first he's heard of it... his surprise is low-key, but obvious. Somehow, he never expected it with her personality. ... With that said, what happened last October was probably something very small, to her, as much as Minato had subconsciously pegged it a failure in his leadership. ]

I see... have you been doing that a long time?
cantante: (♭ 048.)

I am. [ Though for Tear, the events of the haunted mansion were more a failure regarding her own capabilities than a demonstration of Minato's leadership. Given her training she shouldn't have gotten herself in such a situation in the first place, and now it was just a harsh lesson to learn from. ]

Here in Crystallis... I joined little over two months ago, but in my world I was also part of the military faction of the world's religious order.

[ Peeking up at him through her bangs, her expression seemed just a little sheepish. ] Honestly... it's something I trained for nearly all my life.

... Nearly all your life, huh...

[ He gave her a small look to wordlessly ask and verify if she'd be alright with him sitting close-by beside her and continuing their conversation; Minato usually hated to get too involved, but he'd be lying if he said he wasn't wondering about what it must have been like. It's not like he can imagine such a thing, for himself, who's been avoiding responsibility and duties so many years.

He didn't want to put any pressure on her... so if she ever elected to not answer, he wouldn't be offended. He doesn't maintain eye contact, either. ]

Did you like doing it?
cantante: (♭ 042.)

[personal profile] cantante 2016-01-07 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ Her response to that look was a simple nod, moving over enough for him to sit down if he'd like. And with that question he had just asked... he might want to, given the shocked expression on her face before she looked back down.

As if sensing his Hero's discomfort, Sein at once floats over to take his place in Tear's lap, looking up at her with quiet concern as she naturally wrapped her arms loosely around him. But if any of that made Minato think she wasn't going to answer him, well... ]

It was my duty, and I performed it well. It felt... good, when I made my instructor proud and would meet her expectations.

... I think I can understand that. A little.

[ Only a little... In his mind, he hasn't been actively trying to please anyone in years.

He adjusts his seating position, eyes remaining on the floor. He had a feeling this was approaching some territory in which he shouldn't pry... but if he was careful, perhaps this would be alright. She always had the option to stay silent, or send him away, and he wouldn't mind. Why was he prodding this much, anyway? He himself, didn't understand it. Neither did he try however to stop his curiosity. ]

Would you call it an ambition?
cantante: (walking forward) (neutral) (♭ 035.)

[personal profile] cantante 2016-01-07 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Ambition? I suppose you could call it that. [ The ambitions of a little girl who hadn't known any better, who had wanted nothing more than the be at the side of the person who meant the most to her and make him proud. The dreams of a foolish little girl... ]

The city I grew up in had a very specific role and purpose in the world I come from, so everyone was expected to contribute to it in some way when the time came. Becoming a soldier was the one that seemed to make the most sense for what I wanted, I suppose.

[ Though a moment later, the tiniest smile is on her lips again as she looks ahead to the sky. ] I actually didn't know girls could become soldiers, until a friend I had told me so.

Something like gender stereotypes? [ As much as people wanted to say they were open-minded, it is true in most cases you'd be surprised to hear about wanting to join a line of work that was dominantly composed of what they didn't identify with; for fear of never feeling comfortable, being discriminated against or something else... Some cultures were more enforced about those walls, too. ]

So... even little Tear-san was already practical. [ It almost sounds like teasing, but these were just his honest thoughts. ]
cantante: (surprised) (looking back) (♭ 032.)

[personal profile] cantante 2016-01-07 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps, there simply weren't as many women who went on to join. My grandfather tried to talk me into become a Scorer instead of going. [ Of course she was proven wrong once she actually enrolled and began her training, but it wasn't until she took on her mission that she truly had her eyes opened.

But such a statement makes her blink in surprise, recalling someone else saying similar things so many years ago. ]
I... suppose you could say that?
silencesfate: (88)

[personal profile] silencesfate 2016-01-07 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sometimes it begins then just keeps on like that. [ He doesn't think it wise to ask if she ever found it challenging, so he'll leave it there unless she wants to talk about it. ]

... "Scorer"? [ That doesn't sound like a familiar job to him, and Minato's mind immediately went to like... keeping track of or updating sports scoreboards, or something. --And that probably wasn't it, if it was a significant and religious city, it was likely less mundane, and much safer than being a soldier if her grandfather had gotten involved.

He returns her glance with a small nod. Minato notes this is the first time he's seen that half-a-second expression like... this. Did he hit some kind of nerve there? He hoped not... Getting into this type of personal backstory territory was already making him feel strange, yet, he didn't feel like he entirely hated it. ]

Knowing what you want or having a direction is a good thing... [ It's not like he knew anyone who wanted to dispute this. ]
cantante: (♭ 048.)

[personal profile] cantante 2016-01-07 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone entrusted with the duty of delivering any readings from the Score, the world's prophecy, to the people as needed and demanded. [ A dutiful servant of the Order of Lorelei, she would have been an ideal Watcher had she gone down that particular path. But knowing what she did now, it gave her even more discomfort than it had before. ]

It can be... Maybe I was a little too focused, one of my instructors gave me a hard time about it.

[ Though thinking back on it, she had much to be grateful to that instructor for. ]
silencesfate: (46)

[personal profile] silencesfate 2016-01-09 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
... World's prophecy. That does sound like a big deal. [ Must be like religious texts, but not readily available for everyone to read? Upon hearing Tear's next words, Minato shook his head. ]

Or maybe adults are just never happy one way or other. [ The snark is delivered in a fairly lighthearted way, and Minato's expression is wry amusement. ] Isn't the usual thing to be complaining about being unproductive?
cantante: (♭ 043.)

[personal profile] cantante 2016-01-12 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ Whether Minato had meant to or not, Tear's expression echoes his in response. ] I've never had it said to me, but... I might have said something similar to others.

[ It might make her 'old' according to some, but what point was there in denying that truth? ] From what I know, my instructors strongly disliked each other, the last one in particular was especially harsh on me.
