Pyramid of Prayers - Later in the week, if you're game

"Ah, Kidd." Ashelia had seen her comrade from afar, the extra height aiding in spotting her. "Come to appreciate the architecture? The art?" Her voice was dry as sandpaper. "Stunning pieces, I must say."

Kidd shot Ashelia a sidelong gaze, keeping eye contact for a long moment. She could guess the other woman was speaking in jest but the look was as much to check as it was to warn against joking too much.

"Aye. It's an impressive display indeed. It almost matches a nightmare I had once. A fool man deciding that he knew better than everyone else and that the only way to the future was to cut down all those in front of him. And anyone standing next to them as well."

She sighed heavily. How could Edward's son have turned out so wrong?

"And what of you? What brings you here?"

"To be completely honest," Ashelia started, though her tone of voice made her supposed honestly somewhat suspect, "I'd thought to try and find myself." She sighed. "Alas."

She turned her head briefly to look at the Assassin. "These do bring up many questions though. Always more questions..."

Kidd is silent a moment before responding, looking at the statues and windows for a long while before turning away once more. "Is that who you saw yourself as in that dream? I thought a good many of us were given the run of someone else in our lives. And aye, the number of questions we find ourselves with is only nearly as a bother as those who laugh at our desire to find answers."

She didn't blame the Sage as much but she would take pleasure in the day she could put a knife to their foes.

Ashelia nodded. "I was myself, but somewhat younger. On the cusp of making the choice that would define my reign, it would seem."

The Queen clenched her jaw. "'Tis but a smokescreen. They need us, need our power, and so they keep us in the dark. 'Tis the only way they can control us, for if we were to know that which they keep from us, we would be unstoppable." She fixed Kidd with one of her determined gazes. "And so, we must solve these mysteries on our own. We are the ones with the power to change the world, to save it, whatever we decide. They need us, make no mistake."

Kidd nodded, stroking her chin in thought. "I've been wondering much the same about our situation. I wish I could say for certain what we'd do if we knew more about what was going on. That there has been a previous cycle means that things did not perhaps go as expected..."

She frowned as she thought things over. "Or perhaps us knowing more about our enemy makes us the greater danger. For all we know we could be agents of the Calamity itself. Kalki's words would imply as much."

She shook her head, chewing her thoughts over. She didn't like the taste of them. "There's not much more distasteful than knowing you're a pawn and having little you can do about it but play along. Not only are you not free to decide, but you can feel the weight of the shackle. And in the end, all this talk of conspiracy and chains amounts to nothing until we're finally graced with another tempting peek of our destinies."
