Agreed. It is not a fate I would wish on just anyone who happens to live in a nation at war with ours.

[But to the other matter at hand. She folds her arms, regarding him carefully. He may not want to talk about it at all, and if so, she'll respect his wishes. But it seems important to know, so she needs to at least make the effort. So she states her question directly.]

What happened to you on the night of the Moogles' attack on Aqures Ixen?

I'm sorry. That's the one thing I really don't remember. I think someone snuck up on me and everything went black. After that I wound up in that outfit and I couldn't control myself any more. It wasn't long after that when I wound up in front of you all.

You've fought for these people for a very long time, and you were the one that led us to victory against the Reaper. I have no doubts as to your allegiance, nor do I think you would have willingly acted against us if you had any choice in the matter. I ask only because I wanted to know if there were any pieces missing, or matters unresolved.

[Rukia pauses for a moment, her brow furrowed.]

Uh huh...I guess I'm alright. I'm not really sure I'll ever get used to all the things that happen here. I mean I know I wanted to be a Hero growing up but I never thought that we'd wind up fighting on the defensive so often.

[ShinRa's propaganda did have a habit of turning their operations into valiant victories, even if the foe was simply steamrolled by oncoming and overwhelming force.]

But yeah, I think things are okay. And I'm glad we were able to beat that Reaper thing too. I think that was a bit scarier, honestly.

On the defensive? It's necessary, for now. We don't know enough information to go on the offense. We still don't have enough knowledge about the calamity, what's driving it, or how to stop it. The people have been good about acting when we do know, and I commend everyone for that.

...You're right, though, it is frustrating.

[She sighs heavily. But when she lifts her head, there's a faint smile nonetheless.]

I'm just relieved you're okay. Keep it up.

[She gives his arm a warrior's clap, and a nod. He's doing okay.]
