[At once, Tear pulls away from the mural she had been standing next to and opens her eyes, looking over her shoulder toward him. Her expression is once again a neutral one, but the quiet sigh she allows to escape was hopefully enough indication that the attempts at a sense of peacefulness weren't entirely successful.]

Colonel... I wouldn't exactly put it that way. [Sure, there had been some who had come for the adventure of exploring something new, but for Tear it was more about the information there was waiting to be found.]

[Jade lets out a short breath, winding down the feelings of irritation until his expression is fully composed again. Honestly, he shouldn't have let the circumstances get to him in the first place. Taking his frustration out on Tear would be both petty and pointless.]

My apologies. I suppose this hasn't exactly been a pleasure trip for any of us.

[cantante]

So it would seem. [ While she hadn't caught everything that was said upon entering the city or ascending the Pyramid, she could glean enough from the air around the Heroes who had. It was enough to press her into seeking the solace of this place, still trying to find answers to questions she'd yet to know she had. ]

I may have little in terms of advice of resolutions... But I still have the capacity to listen, if you would want to say anything about it.

[ This was Jade, but... the offer was there. ]

[There is a pause as Jade considers the offer. Certainly, voicing one's thoughts isn't always a bad idea, and Tear is nothing but dependable... At the same time, some things are too personal to speak comfortably.

Come to think of it... With her coming from an earlier point in time than him, does Tear even know about his past? They did fight the Professor's replica around that time, but...]

Remind me, Tear. Are you familiar with the four Heroes depicted in those statues?

... Some. [ There was Kalki of course, and the way her eyes seem to tighten was all the indication he would have of her displeasure and confusion regarding the woman. As for the rest... ]

Would it be wrong to assume that what's troubling you involves those other ones, or would it be too much to explain?

One of them was from Auldrant. I witnessed the previous cycle through her eyes back in April. [He pauses again, considering how much he really wants to say. If Tear did meet the replica she doesn't seem to have made the connection yet, but then the statue isn't very detailed.]

I suppose knowing what happened to them afterward is... a little unnerving.

[ For a while Tear is silent; she had heard of the events when the current batch of Heroes had seen through the eyes of those of the previous cycle, but had never pressed for details. To her understanding, it was a painful topic to some that they were still recovering from. ]

... Whatever it was they did, it must have left an impression... Or been seen as heroic, if they are being revered like this.

After everything else had failed, they chose to sacrifice themselves and their worlds to give our cycle a chance at winning. If what the Sage told us is true, they somehow made contact with the Calamity and lost their minds in the process.

[Tear brings up a good point, though. The fact the four Heroes are not only revered, but their likeness has been captured this well... When were the statues made? The Sage could feasibly know what happened back then, but for them to be remembered after 2,000 years...]

... To give everyone else a chance, at the expense of your own self... [ Whatever fruits their efforts yielded, there was undeniably something noble about the gesture that Tear couldn't ignore, looking carefully at the statues again as she brushed her hair back. ]

Not everyone is strong enough to do that.

...Indeed.

[Should he tell her that Luke and Ion had been among the Heroes discussing the plan but hadn't been the ones to go through with it? It probably wouldn't accomplish much even if he did...]

I suppose it's up to us to ensure it wasn't in vain.

[cantante]

... That it is. [ She hadn't been there to witness those visions, but hearing about such a turn of events seemed to fill her with a strange resolve, if the hardening look in her eyes was anything to go by. ]

Colonel... Is there anything else about them you think I should know? The events all those years ago?

[jadethenecromancer]

[Jade hesitated, but only for a moment. Perhaps in other circumstances he would be more forthcoming, but right now, still somewhat shaken by having the Professor's fate confirmed... He really wasn't in the mood to talk about any of this.]

No, I don't believe there is. If it becomes relevant later, I'll let you know.

[Sometime when he's calmed down a bit, maybe.]

... I see. [ If such was the case, then Tear wasn't going to press the issue any further. Crossing her arms, she took one final look at the statue before turning away with a quiet sigh.

As much as she may want the information, she would simply have to wait. ] When that happens, I hope we will be able to make the most of it still.
