Kidd just gave Jade a smirk, and a glance that read 'I was thinking the same thing.' She shook her head at the absurdity of it all. Here they were, prophesied Heroes and it seemed that the biggest trade of this world was to keep them out of the loop of their purpose and the role they'd play in the fate of this world.

"I expect they want us to be 'ready' for whatever Truth they want to tell us. That seems to be the way of it. And I can see the point in all of that, but then that doesn't give our enemies the right to call us fools for not knowing." Antagonism in that manner had been minimal, but it still happened. She wondered if Palitutu truly knew as much as she thought she did or if she was being played for a pawn like the rest of them.

"If Kalki and Palitutu are anything to judge by, possessing too much knowledge about the Calamity does seem to have its risks. In that sense, I can understand the Sage's caution."

They still didn't know very much about Palitutu, but the change Kalki had gone through after Aqures Tosf was dramatic enough to be worrying. To say nothing of the fact that simply communicating with the Calamity had driven past heroes out of their minds...

"All the same... We don't exactly have time to spare proving our worth to him, either."

"Perhaps not, but I'm not sure what we can expect if all he's telling us to do is to wait. How are we supposed to prove our worthiness if he won't speak to us." She frowned as she thought it all over. There was likely more to us than they were seeing, but she was growing well tired of being in the dark.

"When he does deign to speak to us we're going to have to press him for what he knows. Knowing what we know about the last cycle I don't expect we'd make the same mistakes." Including trusting each other blindly and being ready in case a few did make a turn.

"I agree. Although..." Jade crossed his arms, likewise frowning in thought. "If he refuses to talk, our means of persuading him will be rather limited. Using force would earn us the ire of the whole city, and in any case I doubt he'd be that easily intimidated."

It was frustrating, but they had little choice besides going along with whatever the Sage had planned for them. If the avatar had watched them be played for fools by Kalki and Palitutu, it was entirely possible he wanted to see for himself whether they could be depended on or not. Jade could see the logic in that, even if he didn't particularly like it.

"Agreed. And the last thing we need is more enemies who know more about this world and our purpose than we do." She shook her head and cursed inwardly. They were caught in a pinch and she didn't like it but there was nothing they could do, least of all by themselves.

Instead she turned her attention back to the excavation before them. "Seems to me whatever it is we're dealing with is to blame of the ancients and the things they've left behind and didn't clean up after themselves. My home world is a lot like that as well."

(ooc: we can keep going with this or not, I'm cool either way)

"Ancient civilizations often leave their messes for the younger generations to clean up. It seems to be a constant, no matter what the world." Jade could see why it was such a common trait across human existence. It was easy to make rash decisions when you knew you wouldn't be around to deal with the consequences.

"We need to find more permanent solutions, or we'll be doing the same disservice to those who come after us."

(ooc: I'm pretty swamped with backtags, so I'm cool with ending it here)
