Intro Log || Melodies of Eternity

Characters: All the "Heroes of Light" (only new characters can start threads).
Where: Aqures Ixen.
When: The 5th of March. The new Heroes of Light will awaken early in the morning.
Summary: The new Heroes of Light awaken in Aqures Ixen and are informed by their assigned Moogles of what the situation and what their destinies are. This a log for them to react to the situation, meet each other and be welcomed by the former batches of Heroes of Light.
Warning: Lots of distressed and depressed Heroes of Light.

Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Within an instant, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you knew it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, your world vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see. Even you feel different: all the powers you might once have had, are now gone. It is silent, cold and it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you.

At this moment, when it looks as though nothing but a never-ending void awaits you, a red Crystal forms before you. In this void, its warmth compels you to grab it. Upon doing so, you can hear a soft, soothing voice speaking:

"Wake up."

Soon, the void itself vanishes and is replaced by distant noises of engines. Had it all been nothing more than a dream? The soothing voice repeats its call one more time, but is soon replaced with a much less graceful "Wake up Kupo." Hand clutched on your Crystal, the call of the Moogle may finally wake you up. But you are no longer in your world, nor in the void. You are before the Crystal of Fire, in the third district of a city called Aqures Ixen. At this point, you may realize the engine noise actually originates from an Airship flying low over the city and headed to dock beneath the castle. As if it wasn't strange enough, your clothes have changed as well. They are now a reflection of the Jobs you are wielding. Last but not least, you are surrounded by Moogles, small and fluffy creatures who are more than happy to tell you about everything you want to know, about your 'destiny' as a Hero of Light, about what awaits you.

Or at least, they will tell you everything they do know, which isn't much in the end.

The only people around you are like you-- There are quite a few of them, all clothed in their Job garbs and most likely wondering what is happening. If somehow you do not realize it, the Moogle who woke you up will be more than happy to inform you there are others like you around. In fact, there are other Heroes who have arrived in the course of the past year and they will come soon! Like you, they have Jobs and a Crystal.

If asked, the Moogles will mention that the Heroes of Light - that is to say you - are fighting against time to save Crystallis from the Calamity that is about to awaken to devour the entire world. Well, that is if you don't die or crystallize first. A couple days ago, a lot of Heroes of Light crystallized or died out of the blue without any warning! Sounds terrible? Welcome to Crystallis.

The Other Heroes
— Shortly Thereafter —
Thanks to the efficiency of Mognet, it does not take long for the other Heroes to come around: those who arrived in this world within the past year. You may have imagined heroic and charismatic figures when your Moogle told you that there were other Heroes of Light in this city. You may have imagined persons with fearsome powers when they told you about how they managed to push back the Empire and defeat gigantic beasts in the past. And more importantly, you may have imagined them as people who would have all the answers to your, doubtlessly, numerous questions.

If so, you may be up for a tragic disappointment. Still, for the most part they know more than you on the situation and may be more than happy to fill you in, especially if your Moogle didn't tell you much.

The City of Aqures Ixen
— Anytime —
With Choco Egg day nearing, there are a lot fo Hypello working on the upcoming competitions and on making chocolates! Want to eat some? Too bad, the Moogles will hit you with the stick they use to make the chocolate if you try to eat them!

And besides the chocolates, there are a lot of things to do in the city for newcomers. Moogles are working hard in Mognet Office of the ninth district following the election of their new director, and while there are no Blitzball Matches today, a lot of Triple Triad players are gathered at the stadium. Why? Because they are working on the early preparations for the Triple Triad World Championship that will happen in May! Characters are also free to visit the city-- They can visit Airship Port in the twelfth district from where characters can board for free Airships from Shoopuf Airline.

Or maybe you could visit your new house in the 11th District, and get to know your new neighbors and housemate. Hopefully your neighbors are people you will get along with.

The Laboratory
— Anytime —
A location where a lot of Heroes of Light seem to be gathering is Palitutu's Laboratory. It is a place where employed characters can research into various topics. However, most importantly, characters can see a file with their name...

Should your character decide to go there and peek at their file, there are two possibilities. Either the file is corrupted and they cannot access it: too bad for them, but at least their life will remain a mystery. Or should you decide the file isn't corrupted, they will find a summary of their lives up to their canon point, as if written by a third-person omniscient narrator. On the column left to the text, to the top there is a portrait of them, and beneath it there is a 3D model of them. Said portrait and model can be switched to any year of their life. At the bottom there is a percentage, indicating 0%. On the right column, there are various links, most of which are grayed out. The clickable links lead to their Homeworld History and their future post-canon point history (corrupted file for unfinished canons).

At least, they can lock this file away if they don't want anyone to see it.

The Hospital
— Anytime —
Characters who have already been in Crystallis before do not wake up by the Crystal of Fire like everyone else. Instead, they will wake up in the Hospital of Aqures Ixen, in a room where there are over a hundred of other Heroes of Light like them-- Maybe even some familiar faces... Except they're all in Crystal Stasis.

A few Moogles and nurses will be waiting by the room, and they will welcome all characters waking up. However...

Upon exiting the room, they will find the Hospital is very busy. Nurses and healers can be seen moving corpses around on stretchers, and overall a very dark and tense atmosphere reigns over the Hospital. In closed rooms, some of the most skilled healers are trying to analyze the corpses and find out what happened. And these dead people? They are of the Heroes of Light who died on the 29th of February.

Melodies of Eternity
— Anytime —
If you are a Hero of Light who survived that accursed day, your crystal will shine at the very same moment the new Heroes appear before the Crystal of Fire. That means your character is now linked to the Crystal of Fire and will come back to life after a week if killed.

They will also receive their Moogle and their housing in the 11th or 14th District. But that probably isn't enough for the pain to go away.

[Santa tucks his foot in close. He's keeping the shoe on to keep the swelling down. It'll probably be fine. He prods his foot through his shoe and everything still feels in place.]

That's cool. You're gonna have to put up with a lot of Heroes whining their asses off, though. Some of them are real fucking babies when they're hurt.

[Not like him, stoically enduring his ~~self-inflicted, completely avoidable~~ wound.]

[Keiko watches him with a shrewd sideglance. She sees you nursing that foot, buddy. The first sign of a limp and she's going to badger him to take care of it now.]

I haven't seen too many of those types, but I guess there have to be a few who got dragged here without any combat experience. I can see why they wouldn't be used to pain.

[She sighs.]

Did you see your house yet?

Hmph. Doesn't mean you gotta coddle 'em. They gotta grow up sometime. [Never mind that Santa had coddled his baby sister for as many years as he could. The world was a tough place, and you got tougher to survive or you got dead.]

[He stood, testing his foot cautiously. See, it worked fine. ~~It only hurt a little and he barely even winced when he put his weight on it~~

Yeah. I gotta share a room with someone. What's that bullshit about, huh? I thought we were supposed to be a big deal around here!

Well sure, but there's also a lot of us. I don't think they can afford to build everyone a personalized mansion. Free housing and a warm bed are still pretty great.

[Especially after their seven-month "adventure" in hell. She keeps her attention focused on his feet, watching for signs of limping or pain. Coddle schmoddle, if he actually injured himself kicking the crystal, she'll take care of it.]

What are your roommates like, did you meet any of them yet?

Yeah, but there's some other person in my room. That shit ain't right. How's a guy supposed to get any privacy?

[Santa shuddered at the thought. He was secretive, and he did not like the idea of someone having access to his stuff and generally being around him all the time. Ugh. He'd rather go live in the basement.]

I only met one so far. Creepy little girl, doesn't make any noise when she sneaks up on you. Apparently there's another girl, and whoever's gonna get put in MY room.

[Oh-kay, so best not to invite him over to the house she's in, since he'd have to share with Jack. It won't exactly improve his situation.]

I guess that would be pretty weird if you've always had your own room.

[She won't mention that she got her own room, since that would just be rubbing salt into his wound.]

You could keep staying at the inn, I guess, if it bothers you that much.

[He shrugs at Keiko's suggestion.] I don't have the funds for that right now. So I'm stuck with the mystery roommate for the time being.

[He waved his hand dismissively.] It's not like I can get as lucky as whoever it is. They get to live with ME.

[Yeah, she's sure that'll be a real treat. Still, it's not like Santa isn't without his good points. Keiko wouldn't want anything to do with him otherwise. Hopefully his new roommate is someone patient who won't immediately write him off for his prickly and rude behavior.]

Oh yeah? Are you going to cook for them or something?

[Or is he just flaunting his ego to impress Keiko?]

[Let's be real, it's the ego. Not that Santa can't cook- he had a little sister to take care of, and he took those responsibilities seriously, growing up- but he's not gonna for some stranger.]

Not unless they do something for me. I'm not their damn chef.

Besides, if I do that, the creepy one and the one I haven't met'll expect me to make them shit too. I ain't falling into that loop.

I didn't say you were. I'm just trying to figure out why you think they're lucky to be with you. I can cook and clean pretty well, so I'm happy to do my part where I'm at.

Er...creepy one?

[Santa gives Keiko a flat look. Does she not comprehend how awesome he is?]

Yeah, I got a creepy kid living in my house. A little gothling. I think there's a kid under that eye shadow. She doesn't make any noise, she just appears, like, right behind you.

[He looks around, like speaking of Lydia might summon her. He wouldn't put it past Creepy Child.]

[She sure doesn't. They get along pretty well, and she likes hanging out with him, but living together? Keiko is pretty sure that's a recipe for disaster. But who knows? Maybe he's a fantastic roommate.]

Really? Huh. I wonder what Job grants that kind of ability.

[Keiko could really scare the crap out of Yusuke... But that's not a good enough reason to focus on a Job just to sneak up on her fiance and have a chuckle at his expense.]

Have you lived with roommates before?

Vampire. Not sure if it's a legit job or if she's just shitting me.

[He wouldn't put it past her to make her job sound more dark and mysterious than it really was.]

Nah, just with...family. [Which was not actually as strange as his hesitation made it sound. He was just too ingrained with secrecy to let such a fact go without conscious effort.]

There's a vampire job? But why would anyone want that?

[She supposes if someone were a vampire to begin with, it might be more comfortable, but even so. Most people don't really become a vampire by choice, if the stories are to be believed. She looks thoughtful.]

I can't remember if any of our group started out with that job or not. I'd have to read into it later, I guess.

[Keiko eyes his foot again, watching carefully to see if he's having any trouble putting his weight on it. She glances at him at the mention of 'family.' He's an orphan, though, right? So...]

You have a brother or sister?

Because the Victorian Era was filled with rampant homoeroticism and originality is overrated. [Sorry, Keiko, Santa has random snippets of knowledge, and the history of the vampire myth is weird. He shrugged.]

Uh. [He looked down.] Yeah, I have a sister.

... Uh ... Well, I guess that's one way to look at it.

[Keiko notices the change of expression. It's rare for him to look so contrite. He hasn't said whether or not his sister is older or younger, but given the way he acts with Keiko, she'd guess the sister is younger.]

You took care of her, didn't you? That's sweet.

[Santa huffed.] Sweet, nothing. That's just what you do when you got a little sister.

[It wasn't like he'd wanted the responsibility. It hadn't really been a choice. One minute, they'd been normal kids, the next, orphans, with only each other to rely on.]

Look, you got a brother or sister? If you don't, it's not really something you can understand.

Me? No. I don't think my parents could really afford to have another kid, so it was just me.

[She won't patronize him by saying she saw some of her classmates as her sisters, given how tightly knit they were and how many of them seemed to look up to her.]

Maybe I'd understand, maybe not, but taking care of someone full time takes a lot of sacrifice and selflessness. I think that's worthy of a compliment, at the very least.

[Santa snorted, but he was mollified by Keiko's words. The kid wasn't dumb, that was for sure.]

Yeah. It's, uh, the reason I have this job. And the name. We didn't have anyone else, so I had to be her Santa Claus. Worked all year round so that on Christmas, she'd get what she wanted.

[Of course, he wasn't looking at Keiko when he said any of this. He stared down into his hands, missing his photograph of said sister.]

Yeah...you're a really good big brother, Santa.

[She smiles. If he were her brother, she'd be incredibly proud of him for all he's done, and given up.]

Hey, let's go check out your new house. We can walk there together, if your foot is up to it.

'told you, it's fine. [He muttered, finally looking up. It wasn't fine, it still hurt like hell, but it wasn't gonna stop him from walking or anything.]

You just wanna nose around, don't you. Alright, no point in hangin' around here forever. C'mon.

No, it's not like that.

[She waves her hand to dismiss the idea before she moves to walk beside him.]

But given what you've told me, you're the sort to put other people before you, so you're probably used to hiding what you need, or what's hurting you. So I'm not about to let you go lame just because of your old habits. Relax a little.

Calm down, Mom. 's just a stubbed toe. I don't think they'll have to amputate.

[He's too cool to submit to Keiko's nurturing, but he's secretly touched. Just, you know, not enough to show it. She's smart, though, and he figures she'll figure it out eventually.]
