[Sparks convinces himself to come to the festival not to play, but to keep an eye on things and make sure everything is safe. No early Palitutu attacks, no monsters, no random murders. Just people relaxing and having fun. Luckily for him, that's just what's going on, and he starts getting bored just patrolling. Stopping for a few festivities wouldn't hurt, right...?]

[A. Chocobo race - July 28th]
[Sparks wants to try the race, but he's never been very fond of chocobos. He's speaking with the people in charge, standing alongside his rocket steed, Mercury.]

No, look. C'mon. I won't have him use his rockets or anythin' else. Yeah, I know you seen me flyin' on him before, but I swear, I just wanna do a ground race with him. See how he stacks up against all these big smelly birds. What, are you afraid he might win or somethin' just on his own? What are ya? Chicken?

[B. Mini Trano Goldsaucia - July 30th]
[In passing, Sparks decides to stop at the treasure chest game to try his luck. And it seems to be his lucky day! He picks the chest that gets him... an enormous stuffed fat chocobo. Sparks physically droops as he's handed his prize, looking at it in disbelief.]

Another one. What am I gonna do with this one?


[C. 100 Heroes of Light play - August 2]
[Just to get off his feet for a bit, Sparks stops to take in one of the plays. It's nice to see there's a new one being performed, too. But it all starts hitting a little too close to home. He pokes the Hero sitting nearest to him on the shoulder.]

Is... Is that guy supposed to be me?

I'm not sure. I'm more concerned about that floppy-headed thing that looks like me. I think it looks like me.

Yeah, that is... I don't even know what that is. Like they painted a crocodile suit blue 'n called it a day. This is rough.

[He watches it in silence for a few moments again, arms folded and frowning in judgement.]

I mean... We're here, they coulda like... conferenced with us on this.

You would think that, but it seems like someone wanted to take liberties...!

[Eyes roll, facepalm]

[Sparks flops back into his seat. He's too tired for this.]

Y'know what the sad thing is? This is not the least flattering way I've been portrayed in the media, either.

[Oh hey there's someone rather familiar here. Granted, they haven't talked much since leaving the police force but it doesn't mean they could still be friends. Saori walks over to Sparks and his new stuffed giant bird.]

Hey there, Sparks. I could take that off your hands if you like.

[Sparks looks at the toy with a strangely morose expression. The last one of these he won, he gave to Red. It now famously sits with her in the crystallization ward of the hospital, should she ever come around.]

Ah. Yeah, sure. 'S all yours.

[needsteaplz]

[His expression doesn't go unnoticed and she tilts her head. When she went over to get the giant stuffed toy. Her kitten would surely appreciate it.]

Something wrong?

Uh? [Uh oh. He shakes it off.] Oh, um, no, no. It's just, like, whattaya even do with one 'a these? Guess that's your problem now, though.

Sure picked a guy that resembles you. See, he even got that look of yours down!

[Despite how Sparks feels, Barkeep is having the time of his life. This is historical fiction, right in front of his eyes! He has to applaud the writers for taking dramatic liberties by having Biggs and Wedge giving everyone an inspiring speech at the start and mixing up the order of events, but that's not even a complaint.]

Gotta hand it to 'em. They got this all down in just a year.

'N the phrase "too soon" comes to mind. Don't ya think it's weird they put something like this together so soon after?

Ain't it better to get the first draft out early? Gives the writers enough time to ask us about revisions.

I don't recall bein' asked anythin' in the first place. Reckon they prob'ly don't care to have a hundred percent of the facts, or they woulda asked us in the first place.

[Ramza is also baffled by the portrayal of the Heroes in the play. He thinks the one that somehow has a blond cowlick sticking out of a santa hat is supposed to be him, though it is hard to believe so. The actor has such an overly large nose.]

It must be. He just took a potion bottle to the face. [Ramza does not want to be rude and leave...but he is also not sure if he wishes to see any more.]

Aw geez, did they really have to include that. This is ridiculous. Considerin' this isn't even history or anythin' yet, I feel like this is way too soon to be puttin' on a production like this.

Indeed. It is not a legend, it is a...a spectacle. Is this how the Crystallians see us?

[At least they have not embellished the story so much that they sing in this version. They must count small blessings.]

100 Heroes of Light play - August 2

Doesn't quite capture the right...any of it, does it?

[So, Sephiroth has thought to at least try and sit through the majority of this new play having heard what it was about. It's not boding well if the almost cringing look on his face is anything to go by. It doesn't seem, to him at least, that he's been cast as any great part in this -which is fine since most of his work had been done not on the field of battle- but even so-

These plays never sat well in the first place, having walked out on the first one two years ago thanks to Genesis' commentary at the time. 100 Heroes of Light isn't faring much better at all.]

I can't tell if this is a rushed job tryin' to capitalize on current events, or if this is how they really see us. Really hope it ain't the latter.

[Sparks leans back into his seat, looking somehow both bored yet unable to look away from the stage.]

[Who doesn't seem to be anywhere in sight, of course.]

Either way, I suppose it couldn't get much worse...

[Ib was just coming over to say hi to Mercury Sparks when she overheard the argument. And this will not stand. She puts her hands on her hips and glares at the official.]

That's no fair! If Mercury wants to be in the race you should let him!

[The official just sighs and rolls his eyes. Like he needs this, too.

Sparks cuts in on Ib's behalf, though.]

See? People wanna see it happen. I don't even care about winnin' a prize. Just let us compete.

[Begrudgingly, the official says he'll discuss it with other management and walks off. Sparks turns to Ib with a half-hearted shrug.]

Thanks. I think we got the cold shoulder, though. Man, who knew the festival races were taken so seriously.

[Ib just frowns as the official walks away.]

I bet they're just scared he'll win. Right, Mercury?

[She reaches up to pat the horse on the neck.]

It's okay though. We know he's the fastest horsey ever.

Oh hey, it's in the beak of the smelly black chocobo behind you. And he seems to be giving you a look. Cloud chuckles as he pats his bird's back.]

I can't speak for the others, but I don't think Zack is scared of losing.

[Sparks attempts to gently retrieve his hat from the bird. He'll be careful since he doesn't want it to tear, as it's his hat from home and therefore one of a kind.]

Tell that to the other racers 'n the people in charge. They seem to disagree. Reckon they don't like his rocket parts much.

[Zack stubbornly holds onto the hat for a few tugs, but he lets it go once he thinks that Sparks has learned his lesson.]

Yeah, I guess I can understand it from their point of view. I know you wouldn't try to cheat or anything though. Maybe we can have our own race some other time.
