[Yuffie’s palm presses against her chocobo’s beak which only stops Butterfly for a second or two. The bird is smart enough to know that it can go around Yuffie’s hand, more so when she’s distracted. Currently her head is turned towards Johnny with a bit of a smile.]

Yeah at least mine isn’t hurting me.

Why make him run if he hates it?

[She won’t deny that the race had been good but she also won’t say it out loud. Ozzy’s got it going on.]

He hates everythin', so I shoulda guessed. But I wanted to try, and he's good at it! He just-- Ozzy, knock it off already!

[He manages to get the bird to stop the pecking long enough for Johnny to take some greens out of a saddlebag and hand them over. That will occupy Ozzy for a few minutes at least.]

If I can get him to stop bein' so cranky, maybe I could race for real sometime.

[Yuffie rises an eyebrow, her palms lightly coming to rest on her hips. She’s just going to ignore Butterfly and hope her Chocobo will stop trying to eat her hair.]

Race for real?

[That sounds like a challenge Johnny.]

Yeah, for like, actual money or somethin'. Maybe actually bring somethin' home for a change. [Busking wasn't exactly a lucrative career.] I dunno, maybe it's a dumb idea, too, with his attitude.

[Yuffie’s eyebrow rises.]

You want to bet?

[Mooshoo has her money but she can find a way.]

Next race, you and me, winner gets 1000 gil.

[She plays for high stakes.]

[He winces a bit at that amount, as he doesn't have a lot of money. But pride and machismo are going to make him accept that bet.]

You think you can win? Sure, okay. Count me in. Alright Ozzy, get your attitude in check, cuz we're goin' back out there.

Yes! Got that Butterfly?!

[Her chocobo thrills and ruffles its feathers in excitement.]

Prepare to lose Johnny.

[Johnny gets done fixing the saddle and straps on Ozzy before jumping back up.]

No way. Just cuz Ozzy's big 'n mean doesn't mean he's slow. He's got this.

Yeah right.

[Yuffie swings her legs over Butterfly, flashing Johnny one last grin before trotting to the starting line.]

Let's go.

[He shoots her one back as they get to the starting line for their race. At the starting gun, Ozzy's a bit resistant to run again, fighting Johnny's reins at first. But once he gets the big chocobo in line, it takes off, its long legs helping it catch up fast. He surprises Johnny by not only passing Yuffie, but taking the lead of the race, getting them to a first place victory this time.

Johnny would be more thrilled about it, but now Ozzy is doubly agitated, and voices his displeasure with a lot of squawking and pecking at his rider. It makes accepting that first place medal a little difficult. In good spirits, in between shoving Ozzy's faces away, he gives Yuffie a thumb's up.]

[Yuffie bolts out of the starting area but Butterfly has had one to man races and she begins to slow. The ninja princess looks down at her chocobo in dismay.]

Oh, no. Not now!

[She comes in third and pouts when she sees Johnny's thumbs up. She'll just refer him to Mooshoo, he's the keeper of her gil anyway.]

[Johnny had almost forgotten the bet amongst the adrenaline rush of the race. But he's in no position to turn it down, either. A deal's a deal.]

I owe ya a drink at the least. I mean, once I get this goddamn bird calmed down 'n back to his stable. Jeez. How'd I end up with such a grouchy one?

[Yuffie looks at the bird with an expression that says 'yeah go on, bite him']

Yeah yeah, a drink. If I'm not paying.

[She exhales a slow breath and continues to pout.]

Also you gotta go to Mooshoo for the gil. I don't keep that much on me. He's the bank.

Gotcha. And sheesh, don't be such a sore loser. We'll do this again sometime. Y'know, once this damn bird's mood is better.

[To be fair Johnny, Yuffie is a pretty sore winner too.]

Yeah, then you’ll taste my dust.

[She grins at him, bouncing back with way to much confidence has always been a talent of hers.]

So this drink? Where are you taking me?

Lady's choice, how 'bout that. So long as it's a place I'm allowed it.

[Since there were still some places he successfully has been kicked out of for life.]

What? You banned from bars?

[She pulls him along, stopping at the first bar she spots. She really isn't that picky.]

This place acceptable?

Uh, just like, one or two. [It's not a fact he's proud of. Once not long ago, he would have been.] Turns out some bars don't like gettin' completely torn up. Which is okay, cuz it turns out I don't like spendin' the night in jail.

[This place gets a thumb's up from him, though.]

Yeah, this place hasn't turned me down yet. I play here sometimes, too.

There is a key hidden in most of the cells.

[Yuffie spends to much time in jail when no one else is there.]

Sparky doesn't know about them. Most don't. [Cuz she hid them there when she was 15.]

..Good to know. Yer secret is safe with me. [Because he might have to use it sometime.

As they enter, the bartender gives Johnny a wave, which he returns.]

Oh, y'know, music. Guitar 'n stuff. I tend to get less assholes in bars than on the street. Better tips too.

Makes sense, people are drunk.

[Yuffie grins taking a seat next to Johnny.]

I'll have what you're having.

[Two beers it is then. He's a pretty simple guy when it comes to booze.]

Exactly. Drunk 'n generous. Plus, I've been learnin' a lot more songs from around here, which makes 'em happier too. Even if I'd rather be blastin' their eardrums out with some Judas Priest or somethin'.
