Event || The Festival Of Light

Characters: All the Heroes of Light and their Moogles.

[No night shift for him tonight and so, naturally, Sephiroth tries to spend as much of his free time as possible in Terra's company. Not that they've been joined at the hip throughout the Festival anyway, but the fireworks have always managed to put a touch of magic back into the atmosphere on previous occasions.]

Here.

[He comes around the outside of Terra, an arm easily slipping around her shoulders as he brings his opposite hand forwards in front of her. Offering her a handheld firework, a sparkler with it's ignited-end fizzling away in slowly changing colors.]

[Terra turns towards him spotting the bright glimmering light out of the corner of her eye. She looks up at him in wonder before thin fingers carefully take hold of the sputtering light.]

It's beautiful.

[Terra leans against Sephiroth's side as she watches the dazzling sparks in her hand. Her head moves to rest on the inside of his shoulder while her thin frame nuzzles against his side.]

I've never seen this up close before.

Careful-

[After delivering a wide smile down at her, Sephiroth takes extra care in making sure Terra has the safe end well between her fingers before releasing it to her. It might be pretty and magnificent but it's also on fire.

His arm around her shoulders pulls her tiny bit closer as Terra's head finds the now-familiar part of his inside shoulder to rest against. He doesn't want to pull her too close though, not while the firework is still going between them. It's almost like their bodies are cradling the dazzling light on the end as it burns down.]

It also gives a break from looking up, hm?

[Not that the display going on overhead was anything short of breathtaking, as expected, but watching them constantly might have one seeing explosions behind their eyelids for a while.]

[Up until recently fire is something that Terra's been afraid of. She'd shy away from using it unless it had been absolutely necessary. Since practicing her custom job with Sephiroth she's come to terms with her fears and for the first time can see the beauty in those flames, not just the destruction.]

It does.

[Her smile stretches a little wider, her head tilting up to glance up at Sephiroth.] Looking up is wonderful too. [Terra doesn't flirt but she's honest, she likes being near him and that includes looking up to him.

As the words fall away from her lips her head falls back into place, watching the sparks of the sparkler as they climb up the stick.]

Have you seen a lot of fireworks like these?

[Terra has come a long way since first gaining access to her custom job. Sephiroth had tried to be there when he could, as often he felt that he just wasn't there enough. He feels a swell of pride, for one of the first times towards another person, and it pulls his smile to the outside corners of his eyes. It feels both like he's on top of the world yet at the same time close to tears.

He completely misses how her additional comment could be taken as flirtatious. If there is one thing they haven't had to be around each other, it's trying to convince each other of the others worth that way. It's all just come about naturally and that's just as well.]

These hand-held ones, or those huge explosions overhead?

[A soft laugh escapes Terra's lips as she looks back down towards the small sparkler in her hand. She watches as the bright glittering fire reach towards her fingers as it slowly begins to go out.]

Both?

[Even if it's something small, Terra loves learning about Sephiroth. She knows he's a soldier and that he is strong but there is more to him lingering just beneath the surface.]

If that's alright.

[If it was anyone else they simply wouldn't be privy to a great deal of the tiny details about him, his likes and peeves, Terra is the exception to the rule. He trusts her to the point now where the small voice that warns him of betrayal, of letting himself get too close, has hushed to less than a whisper.]

I've seen my fair share, of both. Back home.

[He takes the exhausted, burned out stick from Terra as soon as the sparkler has gone out.]

Public celebrations, much like this Festival. New Year. End of the war. President's birthday- [A few examples-]

How about you?

[Terra releases the sparkler and drops her hand to her side. She leans against Sephiroth, her chin tilted up towards the fireworks that continued to crash overhead. They were building to a crescendo of light and sounds.]

Nothing like this.

[She replies in a soft voice.]

Nothing like the small ones. There were some bigger ones but I never knew what they were for.

[She'd lived through a war time and while there were parties and celebrations it was hardly her place to always be there. There were some memories of them but they were hazy at best.]

I'm not sure what celebrations there are.

[The bright and sometimes loud explosions throw the shadows of the night all around in all sorts of strange ways but he couldn't prevent from being enraptured by the effect it had on the face of the girl that he's grown so fond of. Sephiroth imagined he had etched almost every inch of that face to his memory yet-]

Celebrations differ depending on what world you're on, I think.

[He's not really sure where to take this topic of discussion but here's for trying-]

For example, I heard that for a lot of Heroes, there is a festival similar to the Starlight Celebration, but I don't recall anything like that where I'm from.

[But like Terra, it's just as likely that it just hadn't been his place, either.]

[Terra nods her head, feeling a warm calm descend over her. The fireworks increase in volume, light and sound as the finally hits the sky in a brilliant show of force. The smile pulls wider over her lips and even as she responses she can't pull her eyes away from the display.]

I think it's wonderful. I hope... to see them again.

[Seconds pass, building into minutes before the fireworks end. Terra doesn't know what time it is but the night feels darker in the absence of the sparkling lights in the sky.]

I suppose, it's time to go home.

[As Terra's attention is drawn more to the fireworks display as it reaches it's crescendo, Sephiroth too finds his neck craned up to get lost in the continuous bright flashes of light. The louder explosions sometimes cause a flinch from him too, but Terra will be the only person in the world who might even notice that.

Everything feels darker, and so much more silent in the wake of such a display, as they eventually head home.]
