[Squall raised an eyebrow. He still didn't know much about Bartz so he asks,]

Is that what you do for work here or...?

Work? Haha, nah. I just did that as a favor to the old guy. And 'cause it was fun.

[shear_trigger]

I see.

[Rounding up monsters for...fun? What was the point of that?]

Are the festivals like this every year?

Sure! There's usually some kind of big party every couple of months.

[But then his bright smile wavers just slightly.]

I dunno know how much longer that will last though.

[shear_trigger]

[Since Squall was new here he didn't quite understand Bartz comment.]

Is that...a bad thing...?

[Less parties the better, in Squall's opinion. Whatever parties happened around this city he wouldn't be going if they were as ridiculous as this festival.]

Well... yeah.

[He likes parties. And also...

He looks away awkwardly. Bartz is an optimist. He's not used to accepting the downside of things. But even he knows they're running out of time.]

I mean, the calamity keeps devouring everything, so we're running out of things to celebrate.

[shear_trigger]

Well maybe there needs to be less celebrating and more figuring out the calamity instead. [Squall says evenly.

He didn't like knowing that they'd all been here this long with no real way to get home or solve this coming calamity. Squall really didn't want to be stuck here forever.]

Probably. But... I kinda think they celebrate so much 'cause they don't where to start.

[He's self aware enough that his tone is vaguely apologetic. Bartz has mostly been going with the flow and waiting for someone smart to figure things out.]

[shear_trigger]

...That's... moronic.

[Squall sighs and rubs the bridge of his nose. Did everyone act like fish out of water here? It was frustrating for Squall.]

Well... where would you start?

[The curiosity here is genuine. Bartz knows that Squall is smarter than he is, so maybe he has some good ideas.]

[shear_trigger]

[Squall sighs deeply. Being new here, he didn’t understand enough about this place to really make a solid plan. He knew this calamity was important to stop but at the same time he was still very bitter about being here. But have a Mercenary Commander’s view on it.]

I would start by finding that missing Queen. She obviously has answers that she needs to share.

But Cid said she left on her own and we shouldn't look for her.

[And clearly Cid is trustworthy and the Queen definitely knows what she's doing.

Bartz is a trusting person.]

[shear_trigger]

And we should listen to him, why?

[Bartz may be a trusting person, but Squall is a little more on the guarded side. Especially being fresh to a new world where he really didn’t know many people.]

I know people are comfortable here, but I would rather find a way home as soon as I can.

Because he's been nice to us?

[That's a good reason, right?]

I guess I just kind of assumed they'd just send us home once we saved the world. But I do know there's a lot of people who're pretty anxious to get out of here.

[Bartz isn't, but Bartz is used to wandering in unfamiliar places far away from home.]

[Squall quirks an eyebrow at Bartz. Bartz was way too trusting.]

That’s not a great assumption to make. We should all be making more of an effort…

[Squall wasn’t the happiest person to be here. Bitter, even. He had to leave behind friends and family and the idea of being stuck here for a long time does not sit well with him.]

[Bartz considers the proposal very carefully.

Or as carefully as he considers anything. Then he nods.]

Okay. What should we do first? We could try to find the queen, but I don't really know where to start looking.

[Yep, just like that he's on board for whatever. Squall is his friend after all, so if he thinks they should put in more effort, Bartz is willing to give it a try.]

[Squall shifts. He doesn't know that much about the city yet, but it's a good place to start as any.]

As soon as I learn more about the city, the politics and the people, I think it's just a matter of collecting information then making a search party. That is, if we find anything...

[Bartz seems interested in what his ideas are though, that seems like a good thing. But there's one more thing on his mind...]

Before I do anything serious I'll need to train these new jobs I have.
