[Squall wasn't really concerned that she wasn't a master at using a sword yet. Because of obvious circumstances, his skills were lower too. If anything, them working on something together would be advantageous for the both of them.

He'd been about to comment about that when she leans in and teases him. He frowns, eyes narrowing.]

Selphie, there's really no real reason for me to meet them. I'm sure they're good friends of yours but that's not something I need to do.

[That's his opinion. He wasn't here to make a dozen friends he was here to help with this calamity issue and go home.]

[Selphie felt hurt by those words. Not so much that it's one of her best friends who has said them but by the fact that the little part of his personality hasn't changed one bit. All that time they spent together, all those people that they met on their journey, did it really mean that little?]

What if we weren't here? What would you do then? This isn't something to try and do by yourself again.

[Selphie's voice takes on a small, sad tone as she looked at Squall in disbelief.]

We might be stuck here for the rest of our lives...

[Squall was silent for a moment, regarding her with a quiet gaze. He...didn't mean to upset her. But his opinion was still firm.

But he replied with a gentler, soft tone.] Selphie... If we were home it would be a different story. And...you know that. Quistis, Rinoa, Irvine and everyone else. That's all I'm thinking about right now.

[Squall looks away and sighs deeply. He knew she was right, but he couldn't just up and leave all that behind in favor of this world. He was set in his ways and his current circle of friends were more important to him than anything.

To start over and make new friends was...a complicated issue for him. Selphie should know he had to be eased into those things. It wasn't easy for him. Ever.]
