boomchucka: (bring it!)

Selphie nodded confidently as she held the awkward weapon as she'd practised so many times before. She saw the strike coming and by bringing the noodle up into a position to parry and stepping to the side, she barely manages to evade the first strike. With a swift pivot, she aims for a blow to the torso.

That ice cream will be hers.

Not so fast! Chrom was making good use of his weapon, and its malleable structure gave it a few key differences from the swords he trained with. For one thing, it could bend, and he reached out with his left hand to grasp the noodle and curve it to make himself a shield to deflect Selphie's attack.

He laughed, pleased at her form. "Good! You've been practicing." Pivoting not only extended her reach, but made her harder to hit by narrowing the surface area by which she could be struck.

Keeping a firm grip, he released the noodle to let it spring straight, snapping across the distance between them. If it didn't hit her, it would slap the water at least and splash his opponent.

She frowned slightly as her attack was deflected but found herself having to quickly jump out of the way of Chrom's next attack. She grinned confidently at the praise from her teacher as the clap from the noodle hitting the water splashed water on Selphie.

"Gotta pass the time when I'm not at the cafe," Selphie answered proudly as she kicked a wave of water at Chrom.

She implemented one of the basic nunchaku kata next. Using the flexibility of the noodle to her advantage alongside the wave of water, Selphie thrust forward before letting go of the side in her right hand. She watched as it flung forward toward Chrom's left shoulder.

That was an impressively high kick. Not an easy feat to pull off in a swimming pool, that was for sure, and yet she'd maintained her balance. Chrom was so impressed by her skill that he faltered in his defense. His noodle had failed him. Raising his arm just half a tick too slow, the very edge of Selphie's weapon brushed against his brand.

"It seems I've been done in," Chrom surrendered with a good-natured smile. "Thank the gods we have so few aquatic battles."

Selphie might have won the battle but the kick and thrust motion that had garnered her the win threw her balance off. She flapped her arms a few times to try and keep upright but it proved to be in vain as she gave a startled squeak and flopped backwards into the water. She pulls on the noodle to quickly pull her back up to the surface and beams at Chrom.

"I agree," she bubbled excitedly. "Still, a deal's a deal."

"I had no intentions of backing out," he grinned at his student. "Let's meet near the ice cream vendor stall in two hours. That should give you more than enough time to choose the flavor you want."

Besides, he didn't bring his gil in his swim trunks. He'd have to get dressed if they were going to buy ice cream.

Selphie returned Chrom's grin but there may have been a slightly mischievous turn to that grin. She splashed some more water at him as she was quite intent on having as much fun as she could before the meeting with Palitutu.

"It's a date," she agreed easily. "But what if I want the biggest sundae that money can buy?"
shepherd_prince: (Eh?)

It's a what.

"Er..."

Chrom considered correcting that statement, because it definitely wasn't. The last thing he wanted was to give her the wrong idea about his dedication as a teacher. But Selphie being Selphie, he figured she was probably just ribbing him and using a particular turn of phrase.

"Then I suppose we'll make the shop owner very happy with the day's profits," he guessed, sloshing his way up the pool stairs.
