[Then again, he's pretty sure neither of them are most people. Dylas stands out even in the crowd, and since he's standing, well. Enjoy looking way up, Ed.]
I guess that's one way to look at it. [He's never been flying over a big city before. Just a smaller one.] It's been a while.

Sorry, guess I've run all out of pleasantries tonight. Just thinking about how fleeting freedom is, I guess. Here, it's in the form of the Calamity eating away all of ours. But I wish just for one night I could forget all of that stuff.
no subject
Are, uh, you alright? [What a stupid question.] I'm sort of used to this stuff. It sounds like you aren't.
no subject
I, um... Yeah, just too much to drink, I guess. I have a lot of problems back home, as I'm sure we all do. None that are the impending end of the world, though. But... you're used to this? [Time to deflect a little.]
no subject
He looks towards the fireworks, tapping clawed fingers on the table as he chooses he trusts Ed enough to know.]
This is the second time I've been made a soldier in a world I'm not from. I know what it feels like to fight against something you can't find all the information for, how you have to wait for things to get worse. And things really got worse.
[He glances back at Ed, apologetic.]
It's not a story anyone should have to hear. You should focus more on the fireworks.
no subject
The second time? That's a pretty terrible lottery to win. Sorry to hear it.
[He'll drink to that. Being able to drink away his problems again was nice. It'd been a long time.]
I'm glad this world can still celebrate despite everything that's going on. That seems like a good sign.
no subject
Yeah, you're telling me. It's too late to worry about any of that now. It's already happened.
[He's a cynic. He's going to be one of those old men who never tells his grandchildren any stories and is then like "one time I killed a man" at the dinner table.]
People usually find a way. I think. They did that where I was last, too. Festivals. [Uh.] This one ended up nicer somehow.

[Being dragged to two worlds.]
Hey. What's a train?
no subject
[He grins a little at the question.] No trains where you're from, either? Ah, well... imagine a mode of transportation that took place on tracks you laid from one place to another. An enormous steam-powered engine carries cars down them. I guess that's the best way I could describe them.
no subject
It sounds really big. What happens if it doesn't have any tracks?
[He hones in on one part.]
no subject
Um, well, then it doesn't go any further. Trains are hard to stop, so let's hope the end of the track doesn't just sneak up on you.
[He waves a hand dismissively.] Sorry, something like this must be incredibly boring to someone unfamiliar with it all. It's just strange how my world and this one seemed to evolve in such different ways.
no subject
[Let him just devastate Ed right there. No, wait.]
Or maybe I used to think like that. But when we all come from different places, it's nice to talk about that stuff once in a while, I think. I've learned interesting things that way.
no subject
[He grins to himself. Take that, you elitist jerks.]
no subject
[He sounds a little alarmed by that, further evidenced by how his ears shoot up, but then he calms down. Of course. Some people like adventure. And a lot of people are idiots. Yeah, most of them, probably.]
I guess you really can't wait to get home then, huh.
no subject
[That grin gets a little bigger, until Dylas mentions going home.]
... And, well, for those reasons and a few others, I don't think I am going home. I think if I can, if we manage to fix all this nonsense, I want to stay here.
no subject
[Dylas falls quiet for a moment. He's still save for a minute movement of his tail, his gaze focused on Ed completely as he turns that over in his head. And when he's done thinking, he turns away slightly.]
I've thought about that before. Figured wherever I went, I wouldn't want to stay where I used to be. I can't go back home anymore.
no subject
[He laughs a little, thinking about it.]
Then I guess I need to stop sitting here drinking and being a sad sack, and get back to work on saving this place.
no subject
You can probably wait one more night. You might not get another one like this for a while.
