He couldn't help but to smile inwardly, and it's just about noticeable between his bangs that it did creep onto his expression as well, at the way that Cloud greeted him. Still hanging to old etiquette, even now. Still, in turn it helped Sephiroth to further remind himself of his own role in all this.]
You're right. I believe this really will be all or nothing.
[It feels like Sephiroth has something else he wants to say to Cloud, but perhaps unsurprisingly considering the circumstances and everything else buzzing around his mind, words aren't coming easily.]

There's a few of us who hope they might be able to talk Palitutu down. Get her to join us maybe. I wish I could believe in them but I think we both know how this is going to go.
[And there is of course Ib's premonition to hammer the point home. Not that he doesn't believe that they can prevent the worst of it from happening. Rubbing his jaw he mutters to himself as he watches the falling rain.]
...changing Palitutu's future is probably more impossible than changing ours.

I've a pretty good idea, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been proved wrong, here.
[Somewhere in that statement is a small lick of almost-hope that, maybe just once, it won't go the way that his gut is telling him it will. That they wouldn't have to fight tooth-and-claw for a set of circumstances that arguably they should never have been brought to have a part in. Fighting over and over, for no apparent reason has gotten old a long time ago.
Cloud's further comment catches Sephiroth a little unaware. Where his gaze has drifted off to their surroundings as well, he's looking back at Cloud in the next instant.]
...how do you mean?
no subject
I mean, you and I, all of us, no matter what we do we can be changed because of crystal stasis, right? All because of the Calamity and everything else going on. But we don't have a say in it. But our memories in this world won't get erased by those from home.
[He looks back out to the horizon.]
But this is a choice Palitutu has made. And I have a feeling she doesn't believe she can change her path at all. She doesn't believe she can do anything else than what she's doing now.

He considers what Cloud talks of, carefully, remembering a conversation a few months ago between the two of them. Part of him wonders if the younger man meant to indicate something by that comment, being as he often didn't think there was a path branching out in any way from his own.]
I believe that if she comes across another path that she finds viable, she'll pursue it to the end of all the worlds. It's not very encouraging that she sees things as they are now and sees no way out-
[Though she might have revealed herself as such an enemy-]
-she knows a lot more about these consequences than we have uncovered in her reports, only.
no subject
Probably. But if she really wanted our help she could have told us everything instead of us trying to figure all this out. Unless she knew we'd never work with her in the first place.
[He shifts a bit in his set, trying to stop one leg from falling asleep.]
But the more we find out the less she'll be able to control. That's what you and Mary said Artemicion said, right? That we're all basically too unpredictable for them? I think that's probably what bothers her the most. I don't think she'll join any plan that she doesn't feel she'll have a total hold on the outcome.
no subject
She wasn't just a traitor, she's an enemy just as Cloud said.]
-subterfuge beforehand.
[Sephiroth nods up to Cloud, his tail of silver hair bobbing in the movement before he wipes his gloved hand up and over his forehead, through his shorter bangs where they were already soaked with rain water. It's a little strange looking -up- to Cloud, for once.]
I also think that she's more-than notably protective of Garland. Because, of course, we'll have to end his role as the guardian if we're to succeed at all.
no subject
Maybe...But I still don't think she's right.
